An occasional glimmer of sunlight illuminates the thick cotton filled air. Don't get your hopes up, these large windows don't open.

Perry was cuddled up in a corner near the window, crying for his sister and brother. He had never been away from them for this long and he didn't know where he was. Lexi was right he never should have gone off by himself. He had just wanted to wonder into Brooklyn again and see if he could find Spot Conlon. He had barely left the lodging house when someone had grabbed him and put a bag over his head before tossing him in a carriage with bars on the windows and a lock on the door. They had brought him to some workhouse but he had no idea where he was and he was scared. Very scared. The minute he could he had hidden in the first place he found and curled up into the protective ball he was in now.

Sweets looked back at Perry as she attempted to keep working. She'd only been brought here the night before, and while she didn't remember anything beyond having been walking home from Fifth Avenue after a terrible day of selling, she was pretty sure from the lump on her head someone had come up behind her. As soon as she'd arrived she was stuffed into the small room with several other kids and two dilapidated cots, and after a night of no sleep a man forced them all out to work on these machines.
Sweets barely knew what she was doing, but as long as she kept looking busy that terrible man would leave her alone. Glancing back again at Perry then up front at the man, she attempted to get the boys attention without being noticed by the latter. "Hey kid, you gotta get workin', come on.." She spoke in a whisper barely audible above the sound of the machines.

Perry looked up at Sweets, big tears running down his cheeks. "Where am I? I want my sister." But Perry stood up and made his way over next to the girl who looked very kind. He followed her lead and began to work, but couldn't stop the tears that continued to fall. He sniffled and wiped his eyes.

Tate walked up next to both of them and put her hands on Perry's back. Her eyes was still swollen but she figured that she had better work before these men did worse to her than that crazy girl ever thought of doing. "Come on Perry..." she offered Sweets a half smile and then coughed a bit.
"You too Sweets?" how had this all happened. She tried to shield Perry and help him with his work as she did so. He was still young, he shouldn't even be here.

Perry whimpered and his eyes widened as he took in Tate's appearance. He remembered her from the bakery when he went there with his brother and sister. "Did the bad men do that to you? Bad men did that to Lexi once, that's why we came here. I want Lexi...I don't want to be here anymore. If I promise not to sneak away from the house will they let me go home? I want to go home. I'll be good." Perry continued to cry, he couldn't stop himself even though his brother always said big boys don't cry. He didn't want to be a big boy anymore. He didn't want to find Spot Conlon. He would never again leave his sisters side if he could just go home.

Tate drew the sobbing boy close to her dress and shielded him even further form the prying men and she nodded. "Yes they did but don't worry, the others won't let this happen for long.." Others, why did her mind drift to Danny? He'd said-- she sighed and used one arm to hold Perry as she used the other to work. Her father-- if he found out she was missing there would be hell to pay and she knew it. But she had to help Sweets and the other girls take care of the younger ones. "Go ahead and cry Perry.." she looked over towards Sweets and offered her friend a smile. Best she could managed in her beat up condition.
It just wasn't her week.

Pup stopped his work briefly, panting slightly, and stood by the machine. His fingers ached and smarted from holding onto the metal of the machines. He narrowed his eyes at the sound of the humming, it made him feel dizzy, like the machines were just going to keep on running forever, making his ears ring.
He dared to look around him and noticed a boy who looked his age, being comforted by a dark haired girl who was smiling at a Manhattan girl, Sweets. He watched the boy cry and sighed, hearing him cry for his sister. He sighed earnestly, looking down at his shoes. He wished he could do something to help the boy, he knew how he felt, being so small and scared in a place like this, but he couldn't stop his work and leave his spot.
He stared angrily at the machine in front of him, wishing he could kick it and smash it to pieces, of course with how small he was, and how tired, he would never have the strength to. He glanced up at the shadowy figure of a man above him, and shivered, his mind fooling him for a moment, and the image of his Mother coming towards him made him tremble. He tried to pick up his work before the man noticed but it was too late. He brought something down against Pup's back hard, and Pup fell to his knees, trying to muffle the cry that escaped his lips. He was shoved to his feet and he quickly grasped the machine, working quickly and quietly, wiping at his eyes hurriedly with his torn sleeve and sighing. This incident wasn't going to put the other young boy at ease at all. Pup guiltily shook his head.

Jad watched the boy get hurt a couple of machines down, jade growled to herself and walked over towards him. the cold man who was watching her followed her grabbed jades hair, turning her on heel. "Get back to work!" he shouted and pushed jade against the boys machine. jade shouted in suprise. she looked at teh boy staring at her. "Doncha love this place?" she said sarcastically. she was stuck here too, she does not deal with people who are nasty. "You ok?" she asked tearing herself away from the machine.

Perry whimpered when one of the bad men hit a young boy and burrowed himself further within Tate's skirt folds. He wanted to disappear, he didn't like it here. Sticking his thumb in his mouth, Perry slowly calmed his tears and looked up at Tate. He wasn't really sure what he was supposed to be doing.

Tate set her hand against Perry's back and tried to sooth, "The others will come for us.." What others she wasn't sure, even though her thoughts turned to Danny she was sure that Perry's was turning towards family. Tate frowned just a little as she kept working over the little boy's head, trying to shield him just in case anyway tried to be the wiser about what she was doing.
"You'll see Perry, don't you give up... have faith.." she offered him a smile, she would look out for him while they were there. Even if her own wounds hadn't healed form that beating she'd gotten.

Perry nodded along with what Tate was saying. He knew his family would come for him, but more than that, if all these kids were taken then a lot of people would be looking for them. Maybe even Spot Conlon. And if Spot Conlon were looking for them, then he would find them. Perry looked up and smiled back at Tate, finally calmed down enough to be able to function and do what he was supposed to do.

Clyde eyed the little party by the windows, his fists clenching as he stormed over. "Hey! Shut it!" He smacked the back of Tates head before grabbing her hair, pulling her face right next to his. "You keep distractin' the little'uns, an' I'll jist 'ave you come stay with me, you got that?" He smirked suggestivly as he roughly let go of her, pushing her toward the machine. Glancing down at Perry he sneered, spitting at the kids feet and shoving him roughly to a machine. "GET TO WORK!"

Tate didn't even respond or growl at him as he shoved her head, the idea of being alone with that man sent chills down her spine and she tried not to shudder as he shoved her and she caught herself luckily away from one of the machines. Her eyes shifted to Perry and she nodded slowly, just work little one. They'd be fine.
God she wanted to go home, she wanted Danny and she wanted her Dad. If her father came home and found her gone--- she almost prayed that he did. He'd turn over the entire city to find her if he could.

When the man came over, Perry whimpered and tried hiding further in Tates skirts but it was impossible. Perry hadn't wanted to get anyone into trouble and he didn't want to get into any more trouble. When he was shoved towards the machine he tripped and fell, knocking his head on the edge of the machine. Perry started to cry but pulled himself up quickly so that he wouldn't be pushed again or hit. Perry looked at Tate and gave her a little nod through his tears as he began working.
