Lucky looked up at River and tilted her head a bit as she kept on marching, it wasn't to long ago when she was just a directionless person, wearing boys clothes all the time to hide she was a girl so she could gamble undetected. But she was proud of being a girl, wearing skirts and boots. Women out west did it just fine she didn't see any reason she couldn't be the same grab you by the balls person and have to wear pants. She felt pretty in a skirt, pretty and dangerous with the switch in her hand as she reached over and stopped River.
"We make it out of this your taking me on a date, Chris." Well, no one ever said that Miranda was good at-- well not saying what she meant. But she was saying it now, and she figured it was a now or never situation. And just by saying that she was moving passed, well--- a lot of things. It was time to let go now.

River looked down at Lucky, his eyes slightly wide with shock but he covered it quickly with a smirk. "You got it, Miranda. I'd be honored to take you on a date." Oh man, could it be? The one thing he'd been wanting for years was happening and he was...facing death. He deflated a bit at the thought but still couldn't shake the self-satisfied smirk from his face. He had a date with the girl he'd cared for for years.

Post by Don't Ask on Sept 14, 2009 15:22:44 GMT -5
Don't Ask hurried through the crowd to come up to Dutchy's side. Meeting his eyes, Don't Ask nodded grimly and pointed a thumb over his shoulder, to the seven large boys armed with iron pokers and billy clubs who had followed him through the crowd. "They showed," he said simply. A couple of the boys nodded in acknowledgment of Dutchy.
Dutchy had accompanied Don't Ask back to Yonkers earlier in the day, where they sought some of the boys Don't Ask used to know. Trying to talk to them had been like talking to a brick wall for how much enthusiasm they'd expressed in helping the New York kids on their mission, but Don't Ask, with the safety of his best friend in the forefront of his mind, hadn't been too proud to beg, and finally offered up a bottle of high-quality scotch to anyone who showed up. They'd left empty-handed, and Don't Ask had been sure their mission had been for nothing, but seven heavy-built boys had shown up at the forge door just a couple hours later, ready for battle.
"And I got the irons," he continued, patting the heavy burlap bundle he was hauling, "and the flint and tender to get them heated up with." He took a few more steps in silence before leaning in to whisper to Dutchy, "If I don't come back out of this, the scotch I promised these guys is up in my loft, between my mattress and the wall. Make sure they get it, okay?"
((Don't Ask's friends from Yonkers are NPCs. Ya'll take 'em and have fun with them if you want.))

"Yeah," He agreed with Bumlets simply. The less girls here the better. Thank god Smalls had the presence of mind to stay home and wasn't out for revenge or something.
Don't Ask appeared next to him and Dutchy heaved a bit of a sigh and glanced back to the heavy guys who loomed close together and tall like a menacing shadow. Unarmed they looked dangerous, but now they were even more threatening. Mentioning they were rescuing a few pretty girls and some little kids, defenseless little, helped just a little it seemed. Or maybe it was the old booze.
"C'mon, don't talk like that." Dutchy glanced to Don't Ask, unable to meet his eyes entirely. He looked to the bag of irons, but doubted they'd even have time to heat the irons up well enough. Maybe if they found a barrel or something to contain it in long enough before that lit up.

"C'mon, don't talk like that."
"Sorry, but I gotta. If something happens, I gotta know my affairs are in order. You know, all two of them. The scotch, and my dog. Take Horseshoe to Yonkers for me, wouldja? Stan's always loved animals, he'd look after him real good." A wave of nerves overtook him, and he snapped his mouth closed for a few moments. He wanted nothing more in the world right now than to grab Dutchy by the arm, turn around and run in the opposite direction until they couldn't run another step. But that wasn't an option anymore.
Frowning, he heaved a sigh. "If everything comes out okay, though," he started, almost letting himself trail off but plowing on before he lost his nerves, "there's something we gotta have a little talk about, okay?"

"Yeah.... Okay, good." Dutchy spoke obviously disracted by how his own heart was racing. Whatever Don't Ask had to talk to him about Dutchy wanted it to wait until after The Fight. That way they'd both make sure to get through it. It was unbelievably stupid, maybe, but Dutchy was grasping at straws. It wasn't as if he'd never gotten into a fight before. But not with the potiental of death. These men had guns. These men had kidnapped girls and little kids, forced them to work in this awful place... and who knew what else. Dutchy tried not to think of anything beyond that.

Piper kept looking around for Drifter to see if he was near, but she couldn't see his head of auburn hair and his shining eyes. She missed him and was hoping he was going to be her by her side, fighting with her to get those kids out of there.
"Drifter, where are ya?" She replied aloud to herself as she scanned the newsie army for any sign of her boy. She sighed and looked over to Dutchy.
"One of us should go and check to see how it looks before we go at it." She said to him as a suggestion.

Drifter looked behind him making sure that no one who wasn’t a newsie was sneaking up on them. Nodding his head a bit he jogged to keep up with the group and looked around trying to find Piper, he knew she was going to be here. She wasn’t the type of girl to just sit and wait for everything to be over.
He couldn’t help the smile that pulled on his lips when he noticed a shock of red hair that had to be her. Pushing his way passed a few newsies he gave them an encouraging pat on the back. He slowed down a bit when he got closer to Piper.
"Drifter, where are ya?"
“Right here doll,” He said taking her hand in his and fell into step with her.

A familiar face and a warm hand in hers, that's all it took to have a smile come to Piper. She looked over and saw her boy, her Drifter, walking with her and she grinned even brighter. She reached up and kissed his cheek, feeling his warm skin on her lips and as she pulled away her hold on his hand tightened slightly.
"I'm glad you're here." Piper said to him in a calm tone as they walked together.

Drifter smiled down at her when she kissed his cheek, he felt like he hadn't seen her in forever but he was glad that he had found her in the mob of kids heading towards the factory. "I'll always be here," He said giving her hand a little squeeze. He looked ahead of them for a moment feeling nervous about the fight. He knew things where going to get serious and that people were going to be hurt or worse.
"Piper, promise me somethin'," He said looking at her, a serious look in his eye. "You know it's goin' ta get dangerous in there, if it gets too risky ya gotta promise you'll get out."

Piper felt her heart swell when he told her he would always be there for her. The first time in her life, other than her brother, someone was going to stay with her and never leave her. She then saw how serious he got when he told her to book it if it got too rough. Now Piper was never one to back down from a fight, especially when it involved the other newsies and their rights. But this was Drifter, and she wanted him by her side as well.
"Damn ya and your protective soul Drifter, but I promise to book it, only if you come with me." She wasn't totally accepting his plea, but she was going to leave with Drifter or not leave at all.
"I lost important people in my life once, but I won't loose ya." Piper told him in a stern tone.

As they got closer Lucky kissed River and smirked. "Make it threw.." Saying nothing more she turned and nodded to Zeke before she broke off into a run to get to where the leaders were. They were nearing death... She should have learned to pray more... maybe... though she was sure God felt the same way about her as she did about him.
