"I do too. We need to go up against those guys and stand up for ourselves. Most of us have nothing but each other at the Lodging House in Manhattan, so for them to do this whole thing to us will eventually break us apart. We do need to stick together, and if we do then we can beat those guys." Piper added to his explanation and smiled. She liked how he was thinking with the whole scenario going on around them.

Lock nodded in agreement. "I couldn't have said it better." He was happy to find someone else who had the same ideas and thoughts. He felt better knowing that he wasn't the only one who understood that all the newsies needed to stick together. "No matter what we do, we have to do it together." He added with a stern look. It wouldn't work if everyone but the Bronx didn't do it; we'd fall apart. "If we don't fight together then we fight each other; giving the big guys a chance to get us one by one until everyone who wanted to strike is in jail and everyone else is sellin' papes."

Piper nodded in agreement and sipped the rest of her drink, placing it back on the counter and smiled at Lock Pick.
"Organization is one of the main keys to winning this thing, along with sticking together. I'm glad to know someone here has a god head on his shoulders. Most Newsie boys would just want to soak the coppers and the Delancy brothers as well." Piper shuddered from the though of those greasy brothers. She could remember both of the boys picking on her just because she was a girl, it made her frown from thinking of it.

Lock smiled and nodded until she mentioned the Delancy brothers. "Um... don't think I know them." He admitted. The way she acted when she said their name made him believe the brothers to be down right nasty guys. "Are the Delancy's with the cops? Or with the distribution center?" He knew if they were with the cops then they're were just mean cops, but if they were with the distribution center, then they weren't only bad guys - they were bad guys with no rules holding them back from doing terrible things.

"They work at the Distribution Center in Manhattan, pretty nasty boys. All they do is make fun of us and make our lives worse than it already is, trying to get us in trouble and stealing from us. They're as dumb and slow as molasses, but they're strong." Piper explained as she tapped her fingers on the counter. She smiled and caught the bartender's attention.
"May I have a slice of cake please?" She gave him the three cents she had out in her hand and smiled.

Lock grimaced at her words; like the newsies need someone else making life hard. "Who do they think they are?" Lock watched Piper as she smiled while she ordered. She seemed to be good at hiding things, or not letting things get to her. He wasn't sure; he was sure that these Delancy brothers weren't easy to forget.
Lock looked at the bartender, "Yeah, I'll have the same." He handed him the money. He actually couldn't remember what she had ordered... he was too busy thinking about the stuff that must be going on for the Manhattan newsies.

"They think they are of higher power but all they do give us our papers. " Piper snorted and saw him order the same thing as her. She smirked at him.
"So I take it you like cake as well?" Piper asked in her sly remark as she eyed him from her spot.

(sorry about taking so long to post; College got very hectic with work and other activities. Things are ok now, and I'm sure they wont get that hectic until midterms and Finals.)
Lock sighed. He hated when people tried to overstate their power. Lock thought for a second about what she said... 'cake?' He was a little confused. He suddenly remembered about the food he ordered. "Oh, right..." He sighed and smiled. "Actually, I wasn't thinking about the food. It'd didn't really matter to me, I eat pretty much anything. One couldn't be too picky when living and eating at a work house." He blushed a little at his absent-mindedness, and chuckled it off.

"I'd eat anything too, but there's nothing like eating some old fashion ice cream, handmade." Piper replied in a sigh, hearing her stomach growl after thinking about it. She grunted, not being able to eat anything all day would make her feel a little bit dizzy and sad.
"But I must admit there is some really good pie here at Tibby's." Piper said after her stomach growled.

Lock smiled as he thought about the old fashioned ice cream. "I haven't had any in a while." He smiled and grinned. He heard her stomach growl and his smile slowly drifted off. He wondered if she had been able to eat enough with the money problems. He decided not to say anything, but looked around for the bartender to see if the food was coming soon.

Piper felt like a idiot after her stomach growled real loud. SHe knew Lock would hear it and she bit her lip, looking down at her feet below her. Food was becoming a luxury rather than a regular thing, but Piper had to stay strong. Many other Newsies were going through the same situation as her, not being able to eat when they should.
Piper saw the bartender bring over two slices of cake on two plates. He placed them on the counter and walked away, going on with his business. She took a small taste at a time and smiled, trying to have her manners show.
"This is good." Piper replied in a grin to Lock.

Lock watched Piper as she seemed to worry. He was happy to see her smile as the food came. It occurred to him that someone who doesn't get much to eat should have something better than cake... but maybe cake is something he deserves. He thanked the bartender and started to eat. His first bite was big, but looking at Piper take a small taste, he grinned apologetically and started to take smaller bites. "This is very good." He laughed. "Either that or it's been a while since I've had cake... let alone a meal."

PIper giggled, covering her mouth quickly after she took her bite and she smiled. She looked away, blushing and swallowed the portion in her mouth. The cake was very good.....extremely delicious to her. She was in fact starving and she wanted to devour the whole cake right then and there. But being a girl, she gad to have at least some manners.
"This is just as good as the home-made chocolate bars made down the street...but don't let these guys here know that." Piper whispered quietly to Lock, leaning in a bit to keep the conversation between them.

Watching Piper amused Lock. She seemed like she wanted to just pick up the cake in one hand and shove it in her mouth. He didn't blame her, he almost did when the cake was handed to him. He admired the way she was still able to control herself and eat the cake slowly. Lock gently shook his head and smiled as she spoke.
"Oh, never. Just between you and me." He agreed. He took another bite of cake and quickly chewed it. Even though it tasted amazing, the feeling of having something in his stomach was definitely better. "I'm so happy that I got what you did." He paused for a second, trying to make a mental note as to how much money he had in his pocket; less than yesterday seems to be the popular answer. He shrugged, at least he was making enough to eat, though he wasn't sure how long he could eat like this - bread in the morning, something small midday, and something small at night. He was a guy, the food barley held him for an hour.

"As if you knew what you were getting. I saw you just giving the guy you're money, and yet you had no idea what I wanted." Piper replied in a grin, playfully jabbing him in the stomach and looking back at her food. It melted instantly in her mouth as she ate the cake piece by piece.
