"Fine day to be staring out at sea, mate." Peem had been wandering and had seen the boy alone; he'd never seen the boy before, and considering he was a nice fellow, he was sure that his endeavour to find out who the kid was wouldn't be a bad idea.

Peem smiled slightly, coming to stand next to the man, sticking his hands in his pockets. "I've never seen you around. Name's Peem mate."

Peem nodded. "Right you are, mate...I get around though, you see. Newsie and all. I try to know as many people as I can, never hurts." He put out his hand. "Nice to meetcha, Johnny."

"Oh..and Can I ask why?" He smiled and ran a hand through his hair. "I sell when I can, but I take odd jobs as well. Trying to help me mum out with the household..have a little brother to help through school."

"Well that's a good thing, I suppose." Peem smiled. "But your mom takin' your help isn't such a bad thing, really." He ran a hand through his hair. "But it's a beautiful day. And if your mom wont take the money, you still need some for yourself, no?"

Peem grinned, swinging his hips a bit. "That's the spirit..besides, a bit of extra money, can buy your mum flowers or some sort." He ran a hand through his hair. "Now you been living in Bronx all your life, or you a transplant?" He didn't mind offering his own history. "Moved here from Scotland a few years ago."

"Ahh..Scotland, aye." He smiled and crouched down, drawing a outline of the East of America, and then drew Ireland, and England. "See..England is here. We Scots, we used to be our own country..but the Brits invaded..and we didn't give up like the Welsh." He carved out a tiny part of the England country side towards the East of it. "Dats where we are from."

Peem grinned. "Ahh..that's the thing. To survive in Scotland, ya gotta know English. I still know me old language, but I was raised on English as well...its rare to hear Gaelic spoke much these days."

Peem raised his eyebrow. "I did for a little bit..but my father died, and I needed to help my mom." He sat back in the sand, smiling. "But I read a lot--never can stop reading..I think its helped me." He laughed. "Sometimes my brother Davey doesn't want to..but I'm going to make sure he gets a good education, you know?"

"Really?" Peem smiled a bit. "I guess that can happen..I'm pretty boring though..books are big for me." He laughed. "I'm sure you have better things to do than read anyways, no?" He nodded. "Well thanks, I really try to be. Do you have any siblings?"

"Ahh..." Peem smiled. "Well you have someone right? When I was younger, I always belly-ached about having a brother--but now I realize he's one of the best things I got in my life." he looked over at Johnny. "So do you have a story? Or are you just a normal guy?"

Peem smiled. "Well glad to know someone else in this crazy place is average." He laughed. "I've got no real stories either. Things are what they are, I am what I am...and everything else falls in the middle."

Peem laughed. "Well maybe we're the weird ones now, with all the drama being common, eh?" He nudged the other boy in the side gently, smiling. "Nah, we're just boring. But I like it like that."

Peem raised an eyebrow. He could read people pretty well..it was a small gift he had, and he liked to help people with it. "Something on your mind, mate?" He smiled. "I know I'm just some strange bloke, but I got enough ears to go around."

Peem nodded. "Don't we all have a bit of that?" He smiled sadly. "I can't seem to hold onto one meself." He laughed. "Sometimes I worry that its me." He winked.
