Antoinette's eyes gleamed as Marie stepped into the room and she took in the girls appearance, well she seemed wealthy enough considering how she was dressed. Fingering her sapphire brocade Antoinette smiled back at Alice, "Yes, that is correct." She glanced at Marie again, she wasn't entirely sure who the girl was but she didn't want to ask and be seen as an ignorant outsider, so she stayed silent. Her father had always said it was best to silently observe your enemy so you could learn more about them then they would about you.

Sophia didn't walk into the room, no she sailed into the room, her head held high without any concern for many others. A smile crossed her face as she came over to Antionette. "Antionette I wasn't sure that you would make it.." she looked so happy to have her new friend to show off she tossed her hair lightly and flashed another smile at Marie. "You look... rather well, Marie.." There was some bite in her words. Yes, Marie looked well, as in a little plump around the middle. Maybe she'd put on weight.

Antoinette smiled when Sophia entered the room, at least she had met with Sophia a few other times since coming to New York and they had quite a bit in common. When Sophia told Marie she looked well, Antoinette caught the double meaning and gave Sophia a sly smile. She liked the double edged compliments that seemed second nature to Sophia. It reminded her so much of the way her own mind worked. "I wouldn't miss it for the world, Sophia." Of course, who could pass up the oppurtunity to have tea at the governors home.

Devonney followed the upright stiff manservant who had answered the doors to her and was leading her to the main parlor where the tea party was to be. Devonney had been more than surprised that morning when her governess had proclaimed the events for the day. Devonney's plans were always made for her, many many events she attended, whether she wanted to or not. It was the life of a wealthy businessman's daughter.
She stopped to look at a grand portrait, her breath catching in her throat. It was magnificent, she loved art. Sighing she continued on her way reluctantly, her heartbeats speeding up. The government's daughter! She shook her head at herself, she was still a person, still just a girl, there was no reason to be excited. The manservant announced her and Devonney stood behind the doorway, her shoe stuck on the long folds of her dress. She let out an exasperated sigh, these dresses only caused trouble. She finally wretched it out of her shoes' grasp, slipped her shoe back on and straightened her posture, stepping softly into the room, a subtle smile on her face, her teal eyes dancing, curly wisps playing around her pale pink cheeks, her dress was a long white lace, one of Devonney's favorites. Her hair was pulled back into a bun of curls.
She took in the four girls sitting in the room, immediately able to tell who was Alice Roosevelt, she was the prim and proper picture of perfection, and Devonney gave her a sincere smile. There were two dark haired girls, and one with bright golden hair that shone. All three had smiles that were pleasant, but there was just something about them, a fake cheerfulness, Devonney knew they were more like prowling lions, sizing up their new acquaintances.

Valerie waited patiently, letting the servant introduce her. She watched the girl infront of her loose her shoe and couldn't help but smirk slightly. But only for a moment. She glanced ahead to the other girls, almost regretting coming to the party. Not much of a party, she was sure. And to think she had talked herself into thinking she had missed the parties she often attended back home. Still, if she hadn't come, she'd never hear then end of it from her mother. And she would hear it. Somehow her mother would find out.
Valerie plastered on a friendly smile, walking into the room, "Alice," She spoke to the girl as if she'd known her long before their first meeting tonight, "Looks like a lovely party."

"Good afternoon Alice, things have been well, I presume."
Alice turned to see Marie Adams enter the room. "Good afternoon, Marie." She smiled at the girl as if they were old friends. "I certainly have. I do hope you've been, as well." She bid Marie sit, playing the hostess. Alice despised hosting parties; she would much rather be the guest. Although she would have to watch her manners more, she was liberated of the daunting task of asking those whom you wanted to leave immediately to make themselves comfortable.
"Yes, that is correct."
Alice returned her attention to Antoinette. "Wonderful. I have heard much about your father's business in the South. I do hope you're enjoying New York City." All this forced hospitality was about to make Alice gag.
Alice noticed another enter the room...Sophia Aragon! It took a great deal of self-control for Alice not to cry out in displeasure. Sophia Aragon was perhaps the most self-centered, imperious little brat Alice had ever come across. She was shocked that Sophia began addressing the other guests before addressing the hostess. Then again, from Sophia, Alice expected little else. "I'm so pleased to see you, Sophia..." Alice said, her sweet smile in place again, as impenetrable as a shield.
And another walked into the room. Alice looked up and stifled laughter. She gave Sophia a surreptituous nudge and tilted her head toward Devonney Froman, the girl who had just walked in. Devonney was a decent girl, but she was different than Alice and perhaps some of the others as well. Devonney was concerned with the poor children that roamed the streets, and for that, Alice thought she was a little strange.
Suddenly, Devonney lost her shoe for a moment, and Alice bit her tongue to keep from laughing aloud. What grace! she thought, unable to prevent a smirk from unfolding in her face. She hoped the others had seen it as well. Poor Devonney. Pity she was such a fool. Otherwise she might have been decent company...
"Alice. Looks like a lovely party."
Quick as lightning, Alice had her bright smile back on her face. "Why thank you," she said warmly as she grappled for the girl's name. She was a Cartwright. Veronica. Valent--Valerie, Valerie! "I'm so glad you could come, Valerie. I do hope you know everyone, shall I introduce you?"

Charlotte had been to the Roosevelt Manor many times before. Her father was a politician, and that meant he often had to come into contact with Governor Roosevelt, whether it be for a business meeting or a dinner with their families. Charlotte and Alice had been forced into interaction on several occasions, and had not get been given the chance to say anything negative about each other. Alice's hedonism defamed her in Charlotte's eyes, but she would not breathe a word. This was, after all, Governor Roosevelt's daughter.
She swept into the room, noticing it was already filled with other young ladies. She joined the circle that had formed. "I do hope I'm not tardy," she said with warm smile. "Alice, dear, wonderful to see you."
"Good afternoon, Lottie. Might I introduce you to the others?"
"Please do. I'm afraid I haven't had the privledge." As Charlotte looked around the circle, she wondered how loosely the term priveledge had been used...
Marie Adams. Antoinete Dubois. Sophia Aragon. Valerie Cartwright. Charlotte gave each of these girls a smile and a cordial hello. Alice paused, and glanced around the room. "Oh!" she said. "And Devonney Froman."
"Yes, I've met Devonney before," Charlotte said with a smile. "Our mothers have often met for an afternoon, haven't they, Devon?"

Devonney examined the two new arrivals with fascination. Valerie Cartwright and Charlotte St. Amator. She knew Lottie already from as she had stated the many afternoons of tea Devonney's stepmother Florella and Lottie's mother had shared. She nodded her head pleasantly to Lottie.
"Indeed they have," She stated in agreement. Her eyes wandered slowly over the parlor, not listening as much anymore, but still keeping her posture straight. She surveyed Alice Roosevelt and fought the urge to bite her lip. It didn't seem Alice or some of the others held her in high regards. Well, of course they would all be perfectly "polite" to one another, no matter what they thought of each other. She took a tea cup of hot tea and added in some sugar and cream stirring it quietly before turning her ears back to the conversation, giving each girl a subtle smile.

"You look... rather well, Marie.."
Marie raised an eyebrow, her gaze sweeping up and down Sophia. "Why thank you Sophia, and I must say your dress is quite..." she paused, feigning a smile, "Darling." Childish, is perhaps more what she meant.
Marie sat at Alice's invitation, smoothing out her skirts and looking around the room with a slight yawn.

Antoinette watched as more and more girls seemed to stream into the room. She held her perfect smile in place, not even faltering when the insepid gril Devonney nearly tripped all over herself. Antoinette was very learned in being able to hide every thought from every person and she prided herself on it. She loved the fact that no one knew what she could truly be like until it was far too late. The few girls she'd had problems with back home had found themselves ruined from one scandal or another. Antoinette was not someone to cross and she made sure that whoever did paid dearly for it.
Turning back to Alice, she gave her host a gracious smile. "Thank you," She said in her polite southern accent and took a seat. Although Antoinette was very good at hiding her thoughts she simply couldn't wait to gossip with Sophia about Devonney's blunder.

Scarlett smirked to herself as she stepped out of her carriage and was led into Roosevelt Manor. She felt being fashionably late set the tone for her appearance at the party. It showed she was not here for “friends”, merely appearances, and even that was not enough to make her show up on time. Besides, the party could not really start until she arrived anyway. What was a party, even a tea party, without a Knightly present?
She glided into the room, not even acknowledging the servant who had led her there, for he was beneath her. Scar surveyed the girls already in the room, giving a sly smile to those she enjoyed gossiping (behind people’s backs) with, before sweeping over to Alice and kissing her on both cheeks.
“Alice, darling, it has been too long!” Her smile was large, but fake. She honestly couldn’t stand the Roosevelts. They seemed to think they defined the upper-crust of New York, when it was really people like her family, the old money, that kept everyone on their toes. She consoled her self in the knowledge that governors came and went, but her father owned the bank. Her high status was sealed.
((haha too bad she doesn't know Teddy becomes POtUS!))
