She snorted. "I have a choice? What do you mean by that?" she asked, ignoring the brat comment. "You've got just as much choice, but you choose to be a thief insted. " she eyed him angrily, blue eyes throwing fire at him. "You know being an ass seems to be one of your specialties lately. You either don't have your priorities straight, or you do and i'm an idiot for standing here taking this shit from you." she glared up at him, suddenly extremely mad. She clenched her fists at her sides. "First Alley now you..." the anger was replaced by sadness and she looked away, glaring at the track.

Avalanche looked at her sadly. "Dusty..." he sighed. "Dang it Dusty why'd ya hafta go and do that?" he said as he turned the opposeite way and leaned against the railing, looking down the other side of the track. "You gotta choice... you..." he sighed. "Nevah mind." He couldn't tell her... she'd only be more mad, he thought. "Ya right... I"ve been nothin' but a jerk an' an ass lately, an' I'm sorry," and he was.

Dusty shook her head. "Yeah right you are." she leaned her elbows on the rail and gazed at him a moment. "Alex, i'm not mad at you." she said finally. Her voice was calm, all though she still felt a small flicker of annoyance in her heart. "Its just that, i don't have any choices... well i do, but this one seems to be the most modest." she told him. She had three options... be a newsie (it didn't pay all that well), be a Racounteur (which she was now) or be a whore (something she vowed never to do). She sighed a bit and lay her head down against the rails. "I don't want to be a whore Avalanche!" she exclaimed, the tears welling up in her eyes. She blinked back hard, forcing them away. "Its not as easy as it seems!" he of all people should know that!

He looked over at her and slowly stood up and walked towards her to put his arms around her. "Ya dun gotta be. You know dat if you need anythin' you can always come ta me right?" he said to her quietly. "Dusty please listen. Ya could be a newsie, and be just fine. Ya could maybe be a waitress, a actress, heck, you can do whatevah it is ya want. But... ya shouldn't hafta sink ta my level, stealin' from people. Ya bettah den dat. Ya bettah den me. I wouldn't be doin' dis if I didn't hafta. And I only hafta because I'm a real bad person." Though she didn't know it, though no one knew it, he'd done some terrible things. He regretted them every day of his life too. "Dusty I'm beggin' ya please... don't do it. If ya need somethin' come ta me. I'll help ya get a job somewhere's else." He didn't want her doing this. He'd do anything for her.

She leaned into him. "Avalanche! You can barely afford things as it is now!" she told him, her tears drying a little. She shook her head. "I can't be an actress, my Mum would find out." she told him. "The best paying job is the one thing i swore to never do." she looked up at him. "And i won't do it. I can't get out of this now, Alex. I've screwed myself over." she rested her cheek against his chest, her blue gaze watching his arm carefully. "I'm not leaving until you do." she said firmly, although her voice shook a little.

He looked down at her with a sigh. "Dusty please... I'll getcha out if I hafta do it myself," Avalanche said sadly. "And da amount ya make dun mattah, if ya love it ya should do it. An' I dun think ya love doin' dis job." Then again, neither did he, but for him there was no longer the option of doing what he wanted to do. He wasn't going to quit, though he was weakening on his ground. He couldn't say no to her eyes forever.

Dusty sighed. "Theres nothing i love to do." she admitted, her voice quiet and scared. "Maybe i shouldn't have left..." she said, her voice nearly inaudible. She wondered briefly if leaving her family behind was the right decision. She looked up at Avalanche, watching his eyes carefully and decided that it was the right choice. She smiled a little at him. "Why can't you just work at the docks?" she whispered. "I'm not quiting until you do..." she reasserted her previous statement.

He sighed. "There I don't make the money I need Dusty," he said quietly to her. "I guess I better quit as soon as I can then huh?" he said sadly to her. "I'm sorry I got you into all this," he said shaking his head a little.

Dusty looked at him nervously. "I guess so..." she said, her voice small. She had never felt this kind of fear before. It wasn't the normal, aching, fear. It was something else. It was kind of a sweet emotion. She looked up. She was afraid for him. A shiver ran down her spine and she leaned against him slightly, the snow chilling her to the bone.

He felt her shiver as he held her close. "You wanna go somewhere warmer?" he asked. Though it was pretty watching the snow fall maybe they could do it inside. He didn't want her freezing to death, so inside would be a good idea. "I'll buy ya dinner if ya want."

She nodded a little. "Sure...but you don't have to pay... i'll do that." she smiled at him, her blue eyes twinkling with the closest thing to happiness she could muster.

He smiled a little at her. "Why's that? I can pay for it honestly. "B'sides, I want to," he said nodding. "But you gotta pick the place," he said to her with a shrug.

She eyed him carefully. "Alex..." she said, a small smile on her lips. "You are not paying... you have enough... shall we say, problems... as it is." She giggled and poked his arm lightly. "I'm just kidding, but your still not paying." she looked at the sky then and smiled, her blue eyes matched it perfectly. "Lets go..."

He smiled at her. "I gotta feelin' I ain't gonna win dis one, so youse can pay, DIS TIME!" he said with a smile to her. "But next time it's on me, no mattah what ya say." He held her hand as they started walking. "Where we goin'?"

She laughed a bit, lacing there fingers. "hmm... Tibbys?" she grinned, laughing again.
((Tibbys anyone? *giggle*))
