"No," Wes sang out in a monotone voice on his way by. He smirked a little as he said it too, you could tell he was smiling, enjoying this almost as much, if not as much as Nick was. The afore mentioned Racounter was currently downstairs in a rather fair mood now.

SlingShot frowned and pounded on the door. "And who are you to decide that, you half a**ed jerk? I want to see NICK!"

"You ain't gonna SEE anyone for a while, unless he comes in there to do some more damage," he said laughing. "I washed the blood off his knife from the first time... I'd be happy to do it again," he said with a slight shrug.

SlingShot frowned. "FINE! I wanna TALK to Nick!" she told him, annoyance apparent in her voice.

"I'll go see," Wes said chuckling. He could be heard going down the stairs.
"Nick... that goil in the closet wants to talk ta ya."
"What's she wanna say?"
"Probably that she wants out..."
"She causin' problems? Makin' a lotta noise?"
"Yeah."
"Tell her I'm busy."
Wes came right back up the stairs and walked towards the closet. "He can't come to the door right now, can I take a message?" he asked taunting her.

SlingShot frowned and punched the door in frustration, causing herself to cry out in pain. "NO! I want to talk to him before I break the door down!!!"

"You break the door down?" he laughed. He leaned against the door. "What do ya wanna talk to him about?" Wes asked. Maybe if he knew that Nick would consider hearing her out.

"Well... okay, let me see what I can do for ya," he said. He shrugged a little and went back downstairs.
"She wants out of the closet."
Nick chuckled. "Not giving up is she? Well... maybe we can see what she can do," he said. "I'll talk to her," he stood up and walked out of the office.
NIck's footsteps could be heard coming up the stairs. "You ready to come out of there?" he called through the closet door.

SlingShot slumped to the floor as he finally came upstairs. A few moments of silence were followed by a quiet and defeated "yes".

"And... once you get out of there what do you intend on doing?" he asked with a sigh as though he'd done this a million times over.

Sling bit her lip and didn't answer for a moment. She wanted to leave, but that tactic obviously hadn't worked. "I'll be good..." she mumbled.

"Ya know," Nick said with a sly tone... like he was up to something. "I know there isn't much chance in you trusting me... but with the amount of spunk and fire you got... you know you could go real far in this business. With the right amount of drive and ambition... you could be making my salery," he said. He sounded honest... and believe it or not, he mostly was. Maybe she couldn't quite make as much as him, but it would be close.

SlingShot bit her lip. He sounded like he was telling the truth and he knew it was probably true. It was probably still a better life than being a newsie, if only because of the money. She hesitated. "But... you...." she wanted to say 'you hurt me', but she didn't know if that would anger him or not.

"Yeah, I know..." he said quietly. "I wasn't the nicest person, but you passed the test my dear," he said with a smile. "You fought hard to the end... I have respect for that," he said nodding a little. "You've got a real drive. I admire that. You keep workin' for me, you'll go much farther than a common worker," he said honestly.
