Dodger snagged Flanna's arm, "Woah, there, gel. You move awfully fast." He tried to stop her, seeing the tears he sighed. "Honestly, I was trying to get a rise out of her when I stole her hat. She has a lousy temper and lashes out, she was wrong. Don't cry, love. She'll get over it."

Flanna shook her head, not looking at him. "No..it's my fault. I shouldn't have hit her I--she talked to me like he did..." She closed her eyes, almost spitting that out. "I just...I'm no good around people anymore..." She laughed. "Sorry. You don't know what I'm talking about."
She gestured. "It's okay...go back and have some fun...I really should go home."

Dodger held Flanna's shoulders a bit firmly in his, "You're right, I don't know who he is but I do know that Miri needed that slap. And so does she." He studied her face, "Can't help ya if I don't know why you feel so ashamed, love." She seemed like a good girl who got delt a very raw deal, he sighed as he waited. She also seemed to need someone to talk too and he was a good listener (despite what some people say).

Flanna shrugged and spoke softly. "...I used to work for the Raconteurs before I became a newsie. I was...attacked and I ran away. Made a new life for myself." She swolloed and closed her eyes, continuing. "When they rose again they kidnapped me...and...broke me." She flinched. "Chopped my hair off, cut off a finger..."
"I forgot who I was...I thought I was better...but I guess I'm not as far along as I thought..."

He sighed and rubbed her shoulders a bit, "Some times, we just need someone who will listen, people who care enough to be there threw the thick.." he narrowed his eyes at her a moment as he tried to read her features. "And you know something, the Racontuers are nothing but a group of little boys playing a man's game." Dodger would never say it out loud, but he knew the type. He knew the type very well as a matter of fact.
"Listen, love, as I said, if you need anything I'll be right there. Threw the thick." Poor girl, there was something to be said about having you're world yanked out from underneath you. "Aye? I'll be there, it's what friends do. And you know Wolf, I'm sure he'd agree with me this once."

Flanna smiled weakly. "Yeah...Wolf helped me out of my sorts...I'm trying. I really am." She shrugged and blew a bit of her hari out of her face. "I'm not weak. I hate baeing so." She looked up at him, smile becoming a bit bigger. "Thanks, Dodger. Means more to me than you know."

He gave her a grin and rubbed her arms a bit, "Ah, I remember what it's like to want to jump off a bridge because you don't think the sun will shine the same again.." He winked at her, the analogy was the truth for him, he nodded a bit. "Aye, though I'd say that it was a lot different in my case. The feelings are still the same."

Flanna looked at him seriously. "Girl left you, didn't she?" Boy she got straight to the point. "Anyone who would leave you isn't worth their salt. Not many boys would run after a simple girl who is mearly a friend. You are a diamond in the rough, Dodger. Just gotta find someone with the grit to wash you off."
She suddenly laughed. "Sorry...I'm rattling off, and I might not even be right."

He grinned and winked at her, "Right on actually, love." He sighed and shook his head.
"Ah, gel, you don't even know the half of it. She was the only person I loved more then my own life." He gave her a grin, honesty, that was something she needed more then she needed a shoulder. She needed someone who wasn't going to hide anything. And if he could help her in anyway, he could show her his own scars. "Janey.. she went west with her folks. We were going to be married, last minute she said that my life wasn't what she wanted for hers. And I didn't lift a finger to stop her. All I ever wanted was for her to be happy."
He smiled at her, though, there were times that smile was only a mask for the hurt. "She went and I stayed. Got a letter some times ago, said she was adjusting well and that she was going to marry a farmer.."

Flanna shrugged. "Then no matter how much you thought she was the one for you--she wasnt, Dodger."
She hugged him. "Stop fake smiling..its something I love to do and I see it from a mile away." She ruffled his hair. "...my mom says you may think you found the right one over and over again...but eventually it sticks. The others were just illusions."
She sat back. "...so don't give up. Cause you just dont see it yet..." She snorted. "...and who wants a girl who want a farmer? Horridle boring." She laughed and winked.

Dodger laughed and gave her a freindly peck on the cheek. "Right you are, love. I do my best at any rate. I'll find the right one for me, I'm just having to much fun not being attatched at the moment." He winked at her, "Lucky said something like that though wanting to hunt her down and slowly peal the skin from her bones was part of it. She got fairly graphic when she was raving." He smiled at Flanna, glad they were both cheering up, he held out his arm. "Now, let's get back into that party and pretend that we've never had a care in the world. We can party like first classers, how about that?"

Dodger's grin was quick, and genuine. "I'm glad to be of service, love." He took her hand and spun her like he had when they'd been dancing. "After all, what else could I do for a dear friend. After one night, I've told you more then most know about me in years." He snorted a bit as he thought about it.
"You must be a very special gel, Flanna. Only two people can see threw me as fast as you did."

Flanna laughed and spun, winking. "...well...Mother always said I was astute..." She shrugged. "And again...I'm just me. Flanna. Hapless and sometimes helpess irish lash who has a bit of crap luck." She smirked. "But yet lucky enough to have friends like you."

He chuckled a bit, she was deffinently one in a million. He was lucky himself, to have all the people in his life that cared for him. He glanced at the clock nearby to check the time. "Hnn.. well then, wish me happy birthday." He grinned rakishly. "It's still my birthday for a little while yet, and I got the best present I could ask for. Lucks gave me her hat, and I got a grand new friend."
