Sweets approached the counter, a yawn interrupting her request for fifty papes. Grabbing the stack under her arms she took a seat on the ledge, opening up a paper to see what she had to work with for the day.

Mush picked up his papers as well and sat down beside Sweets. "So, anything look good?" he asked not seeing anything interesting himself. Headlines were slow recently, and selling papers wasn't making much money. Times like this he almost didn't like being a newsie.

She sighed, throwing the paper back on her stack. "We got nuthin' taday." She was getting so tired of having to make up headlines, only to be chased down the street moments later when the sucker customer found out what she did.

Jack walked into the distribution center in a horrid mood. He had been having a very bad week, but the scowl was replaced with a soft smile when he saw Mush and Sweets. He did owe Sweets a thank you for her advice.
"Hey kids...horrible headlines again?"

Sweets nodded sadly and crumpled up a pape (knowing she'd have some to spare) and tossed it to Jack. "See fer yaself. Nuthin' excitin' evah happen's heah anymore."

Mush chuckled a little at the two of them. He stood up off the ledge and stood beside Jack. "Ya cain't even improve them to make them sound midly interesting anymore," he said with a small sigh almost.

Jack read the headline and shrugged. "Who knows. If we keep wishin' for excitement, we could get mor than we wanted." He laughed. He didn't know if he could take more, especially with the recent betrayals.
He looked to Sweets. "...By the way. Thanks. For the advice. I took it." Hopefully she would understand. Looking to Mush he smirked. "Oi..and feel free to go wherever to sell--the war is over. We are free once again." He laughed a bit.

Les went to get his papes. It was weird showing up there without David. A few newsies asked where he was Les told them what he was told by his brother, that Manhattan had too many newsies and David went to sell in Brooklyn.
Les walked up to the counter to get his papes. The poor child was just a little too short to reach the counter. He reached up..."25 papes please." the only reason why it was this little was that was the most he could carry. He would usually just pull off of David's papes.
Les walked down the steps and stopped to read the headlines. Not one worth reading, so he began to think of way of 'improving' them.

Sweets gave Jack a small smirk in understanding. "Glad ta help. An that's great news 'bout the war, all that tension was startin' ta get ta me, ya know?"
Hoping down from the platform, she picked up her papes, hoisting them over her arm roughly as she mumbled under her breath. "Sometimes I wondah if all this newsie business is worth it."

"I dunno, thats somethin you'd have to decide on your own." Blink had good hearing...when he wanted to that is. Like many others, he could turn deaf if the need arose. Stepping around her, he patted her shoulder. "I hope you think it hasnt been a waste, gettin ta know all of us, bein friends and all."
With a smile he hopped up on the platform, ordering his papers. "Ya know, Sweets, sometimes the ends justify the means, and sometimes they're just another way of getting you to the exact same place."

Jack smiled as Blink showed up, rufflking his hair under the cap. "I haven't seen yous in a while, Blinkie.." He smirked. "Healin' okay?"
He looked over to Sweets. "I wonder the same thing Sweets---and I coulda left for Santa Fe long ago...so.." He shrugged. "I guess that's my answer. I'm still here."

"Course I don' think it was a waste Kid," she said, attempting to smile at him. Turning to Jack she frowned slightly, looking to the ground as she spoke. "But why Jack? I mean, you coulda been a cowboy by now." She glanced back up to him and grinned. "Not that you aint a cowboy now o' course."

"Im fine, Jack." He said with a small smile. "Im ready to do handsprings." He wasn't, of course, but who cared? Really... Listening as he got his papes, hefting them in one arm, he bit the inside of his lip.
"I aint one of those that want you gone, Jack." He said seriously, "But....really, if you want to go, you should just go. Fuhget about dis newsie business and be what you want ta be. You have dreams, and you have a chance at them. I say you take em."

Jack sighed, putting his head on his fist, his hair starting to fall in his eyes. He clearly was struggling these days with an inner fight, but he was glad to have his friends around him.
"I know...and thanks yous guys...but its not that easy." He shrugged. "I've tried to be a person who wouldn't cut and run. I feel...if the time gets right then I'll go. But.." He sighed. "I dunno."
He couldn't leave Prince, for one thing, and he loved his kids. He didn't really want to leave them just yet, either. He could resist the call of the far horizon a bit longer.
