Jackle looked at Stan like he was crazy for not realizing the girl was new to these parts. He turned his attention to her again. "The names Jackle nice to meetya Spade. He's not afraid to call the bulls on no one. The refuge is a place kids go when they've done wrong. Like stole or something. It ain't a fun place. Warden Synder runs it. Becareful round here." His last comment went to him too. He knew better then to get on the baker's bad side. The Bronx was somewhat like Brooklyn when it came to some of the people. Thank goodness it was neutral ground to the war now though. He looked at Spade to make sure she understood.

She smiled, but she was embarrassed. Trying to hide it and relax, she took a deep breath. "Sorry, I didn't mean to be rude and run out on you, it's just I'm...well...I guess there isn't any way to really say it with out going into my past." She thought she understood, "Synder?" She stated more as a question, " well, he doesn't sound like a very nice person. And who are the bulls?" She was confused, because it was almost as if they were talking another language.
She continued to sweep and clean everything up and hoped that she would be able to leave soon so she could sell a few papers, to buy herself something to eat. She wasn't sure if she understood New York, but she was going to fit in, if it killed her.

Jackle looked at Spade for a moment before he could answer her questions it might be nice to know where she was from. It baffled him a tad that she didn't know what hte bulls where. "Where ya from Spade" He didn't want to pry into history he just wanted to know. He was never good and the introduction things. That's what Alley was for, she knew how to ask all the right questions and everything.

Taking a deep breath, she thought about what she should do. You can not survive here without knowing someone Rae! Sighing she grinned ruefully up at Jackle, "I just arrived from California," she didn't have to specify where she came from. "I've been here maybe two weeks."
She looked over at the door and then tried to find Stan, but didn't see him. "Umm...Stan?" She went over to the door and looked in, he was no where in sight. "Do you know where he went, because I really need to get out of here and buy something to eat."

Jackle smiled at her. "Well the bulls are sherrifs, cops. And He took his lunch break." He laughed. "Come on I'll show you a place to eat."

She looked around worriedly, she didn't want Stan to yell at her again. "Are you sure its alright for me to leave? I just don't want him made at me and getting the...bulls," she let the expression roll off her tongue. It was strange to speak of the law enforcement that way, but she wanted to fit in and talking the same as everyone else was the best way to start.
She looked back through the door and turned back to Jackle. "OK," and smiling she said, "I would really appreciate that." She walked towards the door and looked for Devil. He came walking from the alley with his head down. Walking over to him she petted his head, "I'm sorry I yelled at you."

Jackle watched this exchange. "you'll be working for Stan for quite awhile to pay back but he's really not all that bad." He closed the door to the bakery. "He won't mind you going and eatin' and findin' a place to stay believe me. Come on you two. What do you want to eat?" He questioned cause that depended on where he took her.

She looked up from Devil's head to Jackle. "I hope he isn't to bad. I'm sorry that I messed up his shop." She thought about how long it would take her to work off her debt, maybe five or six weeks. That wasn't to bad, but still it would take away her time to make money to buy food and maybe save up enough money to live somewhere.
"Find a place to stay? I don't think I could find a place to stay with how dirty I am," She looked down at her tattered clothes. She had been wearing theses for weeks without being able to wash them and traveling in them. She had been meaning to save enough to buy new clothes or something at least clean, but now that didn't seem in the near future. Bitting her lip she thought about food, "I don't care, as long as its cheap. I don't have very much money, so it will have to be cheap." Laughing she said, "Plue I'm to hungry to even care what kind of food I get."

Jackle smiled at her. "YOu could stay in the Lodgin' house get cleaned up a bit if you like. And alright i'll take you to Tibby's, it's cheap." He smiled at Devil. "He's a pretty dog you know. His name suites him too."

"The lodging house?" She still didn't want to be around to many people, but she did need a place to stay and more importantly Devil couldn't stay on the streets forever with her. She would ask him about it later and hopefully get more answers. She had heard the name Tibby's before and then remembered Alley Cat and that alot of people went there. But shaking off her misgivings about people she smiled, "Alright lets go."
