Ariennette ordered three more wiskeys and gave two of them to the men. She normally didn't drink this much, but todays crowd had been a bit too rambunctious..and a couple of the men tried to get too friendly. She needed a bit of booze to loosen up.
"Mischief? You're one of those Newsies...aren't you? Heard there are rumblings of war..or something big." She looked at Clarence. "Just know my Hall is neutral territory. You bring the fight to my door, and I'll make sure you wont be in a state to fight anymore." She smirked lightly.
She listened to Red. "Engaged.." wasn't he a bit young? "congrats."

"What?!?!?, To who?"
Maybe there was hope , maybe the boy had starightened out his life.
"Congratulations" He gave him a slap on the back.

Ariennetted laughed softly and finished off her other whiskey. "Well aren't we all just cheering up!" She ran a hand through her loose curls and ordered another whiskey.

"A dock worker? You aint a newsie no more, wow I been gone fah too long."
There was hope yet.
" Eh, bout this war Red, whats goin on? You do know what'll happen if any citizens if this city get hurt. You better tell Conlon to be careful."
He sipped his whiskey, this was exactly what he need. The blood warming under his skin kept him calm.

Red frowned a bit, running his fingertip along his glass' rim. "Its complicated." He finally said, "And its internal." Meaning he wouldn't leak anything out.

Ariannette nodded. "Well...you can tell the newsies my place is a safe haven." Her face went a bit dark. "I have to talk to Prince. I'm in her territory...but no young person is going to tell me what I can and can't do with my hall."
She looked at Clarence. "And you can tell any newsies in fights you break up too. I'm a pretty good nurse, and I'll take care of injuries as well."

"It's good to know someones lookin' out for them." Turning "Ey, Red don't you have some mischief to catch up on?"
This boy had surely grown to a man in the short years that the officer had been away. Be careful kid, he said to himself.

Red gave him a slow nod and finished up his drink. He nodded at Ariannette, "Thank you for the drink, Ma'am." He held his hand out to Carter. "See you around Officer Carter."

Grasping his hand tightly, he slipped a small package into it.
"Be careful Red."

Ariannette watch the farewells carefully, taking it all in, noticing the package exchange. She kept quiet. She was a good observer. She finished her fourth whiskey and had one more. Strange, she wasn't feeling it tonight...

Red nodded as he turned away, waiting until he was outside before opening the package with a raised eyebrow. Inside was opium, and the other spun, his gaze catching with the officer's through the window.

"So, eh," Turning back to Ariannette, " you a bit thirsty?" When he looked at the wall it read 4 pm,
"Eh, Miss LeFleur, Ariannette, I have to be leaving, I'm meeting my niece. It was really great talking to you, we should do it again sometime.

Ariannette nodded, her eyes unreadable. "I would enjoy meeting you again. Do me the honor and visit me at my Hall. I feel I may not get away as much as I would like, with the war and all." She put out her hand again. "I feel we have much to talk about." She wasn't sure about him anymore. She didn't like dirty cops..and he didn't seem to be one. She hoped she was wrong. She liked this one.

After Ariannette left, he strolled out the door, knowing Red was waiting for him in the alley.
"Just like I thought. Ya know Red, I'm quite dissappointed in you."
