Skittery grinned, let go of Drifter's hand and instead reached behind her head and rested his arm over her shoulders. He exhaled in the opposite direction to her then turned to look at her. "Jus' boostin' my ego arn't ya?" He said playfully and gave her shoulder a squeeze before another dragg. He was compleatly at ease, happy to have his arm around a great girl, a very infrequent event.

Drifter smiled up at the boy, happy that he had relaxed. She draped her arm around his waist and rested her head on his shoulder.
" 'Sides, yoah a lot less grumpy with me around, they outta be thankin' me," she joked, "An' what does it matteh what they say when youse got me around?"

Skittery crained his head back to get a view of her face, disbelif on his own. "I ain't evah grumpy!" He raised an eyebrow at her and joked, "don't be thinkin' yer too special!" He smiled back at her and rested his chin on the top of her head. "It don't mattah" he said in response to her question, "unless they pick on you - then i'll deck 'em..."

Drifter squirmed a bit and tilted her head back to look up at Skittery. It was cute to see him so nervous but excited at the same time. After the fun that was her introduction at the Bronx lodging house, this couldn't be half as bad. At least here there wouldn't be any screaming or crying.
"It won't be half as bad as yoah spectin' it to be you know."

Mush heard Drifter's sentence, but that was all of the conversation he'd heard. "Won't won't be half bad?" he asked as he walked out the front door. He looked at the two of them with a suspecting smile. Hello... who was this girl? Never seen her around before. "Pardon me, name's Mush," he said offering his hand to the new girl.

Drifter nearly had to pinch herself to keep from asking outloud if all the boys in Manhatten were good looking, but she figured Skits wouldn't appreciate that. She reached out with her hand that wasn't around Skits and grinned back at the friendly boy, what was Skits so worried about? She reached out and shook his hand.
"Nice ta meetcha Mush, and it's Driftah. Met Skits heah earlieh today and he's been showin' me around 'Hatten. It's kinda late to have him walk me back to the Bronx so Ise stayin' heah tonight," she said amiably.

Mush took his hand back. "Bronx?" he questioned suddenly. His face fell from a smile to a frown, then to a look of almost anger. "Youse cain't stay heah," he said shaking his head quickly. "Uh-uh... Jack'll get mad at ya, and... well... ya pretty face wouldn't be so pretty no more. Jack won' let goils off easy," he said. Which he knew was a fact.

Drifter looked up at Skittery curiously, he was worried about bringing her back but he didbn't say anything about her getting into trouble. She looked at Mush with a bewildered look on her face as she leaned a bit closer to Skittery.
"Who's Jack and why would he be so mad? Oh, and thank you foh callin' me pretty."

Race saw Mush walk out the door as he came down the stairs, and he ran over to catch him before he left. "Hey Mush have ya seen my . . ." He stopped when he saw Mush wasn't alone on the steps. Glancing between the girl and Skittery, a weird grin spread across his face. "Deah me, what have we heah?" he said, smiling at the girl.

Drifter was nervous when the new boy showed up and she shot a pleading look to Mush, hoping the boy wouldn't say anything. She resisted the urge to hide her face in Skittery's chest and looked shyly up at the new boy.
"Driftah, from Boston, Ise new to the city. Skittery heah was showin' me around and he said that Ise could stay heah tonight. I've got family neahby and he said he'd take me in the mohnin'."

Mush nodded. "Yeah, I was jus tellin' dese two bout what's happnin' b'tween da boroughs," Mush said honestly to Racetrack. He wouldn't lie to him, but... he wouldn't tell the whole truth, if he could help it.
"Ya see... Jack is da ledah of Manhattan. An' right now... we's in a war... kinda. Dere was dis kid from Brooklyn killed, named Spike. Well, he was killed in Manhattan, and Spot, da leadah of Brooklyn though it was one of us 'hattan newsies who done it. Now it's Queens and Manhattan voises Brooklyn and da Bronx." he put a little extra emphasis on the Bronx, so she'd get the message. "And ya welcome for the compliment, he added smugly.

Now Drifter was officially confused, and a little ticked off that Ace would go and get himself in a war that had nothign to do with him. She grinned shyly at Mush from her perch next to Skittery, thankful he kept her secret, but in turn worried about what was going to happen with hernd skittery.
"But that's stupid, anyone could've killed the kid," she said honestly. She leaned in closer to Skittery and looked up at him worriedly.

"Yeah, sure, anyone would have killed a kid, but since it happened in Manhattan that makes it Jack's fault. There's the thought that Jack did it himself... or he told some of his newsies to do it... or da sheer fact dat it happened in 'hattan and Jack didn't stop it. Either way Spot looks at it, it's Jacky's fault." Mush sighed. "Dun seem faih though..." Mush leaned agains the railing and folded his arms with a sigh and looked up at the sky.

Drifter thought for a minute, nothing like this happened when she was in Philly, and it sounded like nothing like this had happened here before.
"Bt if it wasn't a newsies, how's Jack spossed to 'ave any control oveh it? That's not jusy unfaih, it's stupid," the little Bostonian countered. Boy and their egos about their territory. Annoyed, with the war and the male population, she croosed her arms, "This Spot doesn't sound to bright to me."

Skittery woke up from his mild coma ((ahh sooo many responses)). He stood a little more ridged and pulled Drifter closer, especially when Mush introduced himself. He shot a sneer at Race and shook his head to tell him not to start with him. He took in everything Mush said, occasionally glancing down at Drifter. This was no good. He narrowed his eyes and tightened his mouth.
"Well ain't this great!" He finally blerted out in a half yell throwing his cigarette butt down with his free hand. He looked at Drifter and in a slightly softer tone said, Spot yeah well 'e ride a high horse an' obviously needs ta be knocked off! It ain't our problem if 'e can't keep track of his kids!" He was makeing a fist with his free hand and looked back at Drifter. "Ya can stay, we'll figure it out an' Jack I dont care, 'e can 'ave a fit. You ain't done nothin'" His mind was wandering, if there was a war and he and Drifter were on different sides then what did that mean?
