Sweets gave 'him' a sideways glance, grinning. "That's right. . . How'd ya know?" she asked, finishing the large roll in record time.

"Well, ya ain't a goil from Queens... there aren't many ta be honest. You seeemed a bit out of place to be a Bronx newsie... and I didn't think ya looked like a Brooklyn goil. I figured 'hattan was where ya was from. Lucky guess," she said with a smile. "Ya a newsie... lemme show ya somethin'. Ya seem like a trust worthy kid... come 'ere," she said as she started walking towards the ally near the bakery.

She stayed put and simply cocked her head. "ya expect me ta follow ya into some dark ally? Bein' from 'hattan don't make me stupid," she said with a suspicious tone to her voice.

Prince nodded, understanding how she'd be a little wary. "I know dat," she said. She knew boys from Manhattan, all of 'em smart. "Look heah, what I wanna tell ya I cain't tell ya in da wide open like dis. I won' do nothin', I promise. Youse got my woid," she said trying to be reassuring.

She hesitated for a moment, glancing around the busy streets. Sighing, she wiped her Cinnamon covered fingers on her skirt and wearily followed him.

"Alright... heah," she said. She took her hat off, and let her brown hair fall down around her shoulds, and almost half the way down her back. She placed her hat back on her head, but left her hair down. "See... I'm a goil," Prince whispered. "I thought, since ya a newsie youse might like ta know. Most da newsies in New York know, but don't tell no one who ain't a newsie, alright? Ya do, and I'se could get in some big trouble," she said. "I can trust youse, cain't I?"

Sweets grinned relieved that this was all he..erm, she wanted to tell her. "Hey look at dat!" she said, still smiling. "You're pretty good at that ya know, bein' a fella I mean." She looked at her curiously and continued. "Whatya mean you could get in trouble though?" she asked, slightly concerned.

"Well..." she said, wishing Sweet's hadn't asked, but she'd say something, like normal. "Ya see... some of da adults 'round heah might be pretty mad. I mean... I like a bit, but... dis is a big lie. Dey wouldn't be very happy wit' me. After all, me pretendin' ta be a boy level's da playin' field," she stated simply. All of what she had said had been a lie... or the 'improved truth' as it were, but she was a good liar. She's used the excuses before, and it was always good to keep a story consistant.

Sweets raised an eyebrow, still looking curiously at the newsie. "Level's da playin' field? But, what about all us oddah goils? We make it alright," she finished meekly, knowing the girls did have a tougher time but feeling a small spark of 'female pride' in her.
"Oh and I don't think I asked, you from around heah, in da Bronx?"

"Yeah, ya make it alright... but how would it look if all da oddah districts of New York had boys fah leadahs, and Queens was da only place whose head was a goil?" she asked. "People'd think we's weak or somethin', and I dun wanna do dat ta my boys," she said, meaning the newsies in Queens. "T'ough, I'se admit, da goils I met can hold deir own jus' fine," she said with a smile.

Sweets yet again looked surprised. "you mean you're da leadah o' Queens?" she shrugged sheepishly, "Sorry, I'm new to the whole newsie woild. Da only leadah's I knew 'bout was Jack, for obvious reasons, an' Spot Conlon, well, who doesn't know about that kid, right?" she finished, smiling again.

"It's alright. Ya dun heah much from Queens as it is," she said with a smile. "I ain't suprised. Ace is the leadah 'round heah, in case ya needs ta know," she added. "If ya evah needs anythin' youse let me know. Us newsie goils gotta stick tagethah," she said. "Ya always got friends in Queens," she reassured Sweets.

"thanks Prince, ya seem like a great leadah, an' you're right, we do gotta stick tagethah." With that she turned to leave the alley, licking the last bits of sugar from her fingers. Turning around she added, "Oh an' if you evah need someone ta play the part of a poor hungry orphan, you know wheah ta find me."

Prince waved to Sweets. "See ya," she called. She put the brim of her hat in her mouth, handy. She then expertly twisted her hair around her hand, took her hat, and rehid her hair. She checked to make sure no one was around, then quickly started walking back towards Queens, a loaf of bread under one arm, smiling at her victory.

A hand reached out deftly and stole the loaf from under her arm with almost no warning at all. Leaning on a crate to just her right, Ace smirked at her and threw it up in the air once, twice.
"What did you do this time? Get someone to play an orphan again?" He teased.
