He shrugged, about the only person he couldn't lie to about things such as those was the Irish Flower. He grinned at her and tugged on her hair fondly. "I could be better, love. You know me, always tryin' to stay one step ahead of the fool running next to me. Luckily for me Lefty and River are at my side or I'd have folded long ago. Bein' leader, it isn't exactly what I thought it would be.." but he grinned still, that was almost reflex. Wasn't many times where he wasn't grinning. He took her hand in his and kissed her knuckles with that flourish that was just very much Dodger. "How about you?"

"Aye, so it is not. But you are still a good leader Dodger," Daisy said, because she knew it to be true. She saw it in the way he cared for the kids in the Bronx, even if he didn't know it...he cared, Daisy could see it in his eyes. It was no doubt this business with the kidnappings around town was running him ragged, running them all ragged.
A blush tinged her cheeks as he kissed her knuckles and she giggled, finding her smile and directing it at Dodger. "Oh I've been fine. The pub is busy and everyone is talking about those poor kids. How are they Dodger? Is everyone alright?"

Dodger gave her a small smirk before he nodded to her words, he didn't have to believe it but it was nice to hear. Hell he was a decent leader, and loyal to his kids. Trying to keep anyone else from getting snagged. He saw her blush and just grinned at her, he liked making her blush, hell he liked teasing her. Wasn't many people around like Daisy.
When she asked if things were alright he sighed and ran his hand over his hair, sliding his hat off and catching it behind his back with his other hand. "Well, I can't tell ya. From what Sweets had said they were all okay. I'm tried of waiting and buying time. If we don't move they're as good as dead if they aren't already.." It was making him angry the longer he thought about it.

"I'm glad that Sweets is okay," Daisy said, having heard of the girl's plight...it had been all that anyone talked about at the pub for days. Her blue eyes watched Dodger's face, could see the weight of it all in the lines there and she had the urge to smooth them away with a gentle hand. She always liked it best when Dodger was smiling, when he was happy and the worries of the world were far away from them all.
"Oh but Dodger, please promise me you'll be safe," Daisy said, sensing the anger and urgency in his voice when he spoke about waiting, about wanting to act. She knew he had a rash side and she just didn't want him to get hurt, didn't want any of them to get hurt. "I don't want any thing to happen to you."

He flashed her a grin and hooked an arm around her shoulders, giving her a soft hug that way. "Ah, don't be worryin about me, love.." well actually it was probably something someone should be doing. Dodger was the kind of man that did a lot of things without thinking and running into a battle of sorts where his opposition was better armed was just something he was planning on doing.
"I'll be fine, doncha be worrying.." he didn't want her to be worrying about him, worry about the others. Worry about those kids, but not Dodger. He'd be fine. He figured.

"Aye, you always say that," Daisy said softly, leaning into him for a moment because his arm felt warm and comforting across her shoulders. "But worry I do, especially after you, Dodger. You're not invincible you know," Daisy commented, in her sweet and observant way. Daisy was never one to pry or assert her feelings on a matter onto someone else, but she cared deeply for her friends; and she counted Dodger among those friends. It would break her heart for anything to happen to them.
"If you need help...I mean, I know there isn't much that I can do," Daisy said with a slight shrug as she wrapped her arm around Dodger's waist, because she knew it to be true. She was but a bar maid in the middle of a city that most days seemed to be much larger than any life she hoped to lead. "But if there is anything, you'll ask?"

Dodger thought he was something, he'd survived a million things to be where he was at this moment. He sure felt like he was invincible somewhat, he's survived TB, the crossing from England, his mother's abandonment-- hell he'd survived scary women and crazy Germans.
He looked down at her and smiled softly, somehow this little Irish girl could make him put things into perspective. He smiled softly and set his cheek against her hair, "I know, don't be fretting over me though. I always manage to come out on top.. like a cat I am.."

"Even a cat needs a little fretting after," Daisy commented, pressing her cheek into his shoulder before pulling back to look into his eyes. She knew that it was pointless to argue with him about his morality, the boys that ran the streets rarely saw it that way, but it didn't mean she stopped caring about them all. About the faces that made her smile and the friends that held her close when they were the only family that she had left.

He kissed her nose fondly, "Don't be giving me that worried look, love. I'm fine see.." he tapped his chest and smirked, Dodger hadn't changed to much. He was, what he was. He'd always been a character and he didn't think that was ever going to change. He let her rest there for a moment, he was supposed to go see Spot but the Brooklyn leader was going to wait. Hell he probably wasn't even around. Dodger knew THAT much about him.

"Aye, I see Dodger, I see." Daisy relented and allowed the silence to lapse for awhile, simply enjoying that they could stand like this together and be at peace. She knew that she should probably go, had errands to run before she started her shift at McGinty's, but she wasn't ready to leave the docks yet, not when the sun was barely above the horizon and she felt safe here, like the scary things in the world couldn't get to her in this moment.
"I meant what I said," She said after a long moment, breaking into the silence, her voice barely above a whisper. "If there is anything that I can do to help..."

He kissed her hair gently, it was just his way when it came to the women he loved in his life. "I know love.." he turned her away from the dock, his arm around her shoulders. "I've got a Brooklyn leader ta see.. and I'm thinkin you need to be getting back to work eh?" he wiggled his brows at her and set his hat right back on his head. Dodger was a piece of work, but he was leaning towards dangerous at the moment.

"Aye," Daisy said with a little resolute sigh, pulling away from Dodger because he knew him to be right. "I wanted to stop by the bakery before going to the pub, a little fresh bread to brighten the day," Daisy explained, looking once more out over the water and then back towards the city that was their home. She wasn't blind, she could see the dangerous glint in her friend's eye, but she'd said her piece and there was no need to push. "Come round more, Dodger, it does me good to see you." She said, reaching up to pat his cheek lightly and sending him a warm smile.

He ruffled her hair with a soft smile, they'd gone so far back it was near impossible not to be fond of her. "I promise. Look out for yourself, last thing I need is somethin' to happen to someone else I care about.." Stop by the Bakery where Tate wasn't, his jaw locked and he sighed, turning away form her. "I've got to go and speak to Spot.. I'll come and see you soon, aye?" he grinned at that. Well he was never lacking for confidence as he strode away. "You have any problems you know where to find us.." him, in the Bronx. If not him River or Lefty.

"Aye, I will find you if I need it," Daisy said, feeling better having at least seen Dodger and gotten a chance to speak with him. She watched him go with a smile playing across her features, plenty of time left in her morning for her to stop by the bakery just as she had intended. With a final glance out over the water, Daisy hurried along the docks and back into the heart of the city.

*New Day*
Her feet dangled over the edge of the dock she sat on, she was beyond bored and a little frustrated with everything lately. Her eyes held that glint in them that said she was not in a good mood, her pretty features were disrupted with a scowl as she tossed some rocks into the water. Ace had been having a rough day, first some little brat spits at her and she threw the kid into a vegetable stand and the kid ran off, then there was the fact that she only managed to sell half her papes it was a good thing she only took 40 today. She set her cap ontop of the stack of papes at her side and was half tempted to thrrow the lot of em in the water too. She let her hair draped into her face and she pulled her slingshot out from her pocket loading it with a rock and watching it fly across the water before sinking. She had nthing better to do and she really didn't feel like going and starting a fight with a random kid just for kicks.
She swung her legs back and forth as she contemplated going to get a drink or two or more, she loved her drinks but then again she would choose playing a game of poker over drinking. She flung another rock out of the slingshot as she looked around wondering if anyone else was around.
