"Only last night, I slept on a doorstep another night and an alley the first night, it's nothing, just a little slump that's all, I'm just working my way outta it."
"Ya could have told me," She said throwing her hands up in the air in frustration. "We could have found a place for ya ta stay or somethin', I'd even help ya pay for yer apartment above the tracks." Sighing she sat down on the bench rubbing her eyes a bit, "Ya know ya could always come ta me if ya need help."
He made her so mad sometimes. He sleeps on the street and expects her to act like it was nothing? He was mistaken. Taking in a deep breath she tried to calm down, at least he wasn't dead. Looking over at him she leaned forward, "How much does Mr. Carson have you pay?" She asked.

"No, I couldn't tell ya, ya don't understand! The reason I stayed away was fer you. I didn't want ta be causin' you trouble, takin' money you need to provide for yerself. I'm supposed to be the older brother. I'm supposed to be the one providing for you, not sleeping on the streets."
He rubbed at his tired eyes, they weren't as bright as usual, but tired and dark. He hadn't eaten as much the past few days, and he looked a little weak. After his bold speech he couldn't look at her in the eye at all. He felt miserable. Here he was, weak and hungry, sleeping on the streets while he was supposed to be the strong one for Muse, one she could depend on. How could she do that when he couldn't even depend on himself?
"How much does Mr. Carson have you pay?"
"A bit a day. The rent is $17.oo a month. I spent some of my pay on suspenders for you, you needed them and don't you even protest. I needed new boots too, mine were too small and falling apart. Plus food and now with my buggy out of repair, I only have those bits a day, but I've been working hard, t-trying to show Mr. Carson." He sighed, looking up at his sister briefly.

"The only thin' stayin' away from me did was worry me to death that something happened to you, it doesn't matter that yer supposed to be the older brother, we are family now Rex we take care of each other." She said trying to get it threw his stubborn mind.
Sighing Muse leaned back on the bench and shook her head a bit, he thinks she wouldn't understand, but if he had come to her and explained what was happening then maybe she would understand, just disappearing on her was not a smart move. Just made everything worse.

Looking down at her blue suspenders she groaned inwardly, he bought her these and now he doesn't have enough to pay his rent. Now she felt guilty she was part of the reason he was out here. Glancing over at him she grabbed her papers and then his hand pulling him up with her and away from the bench. "Come on ya gotta eat something."

He nodded, family. He loved Muse and would do anything for her. He trusted her too, the main reason he had stayed away because he felt ashamed, and that maybe Muse would be ashamed of him. Now he realized she was ashamed of him, but not because of the slump he was in, but because he had stayed away.
"Come on ya gotta eat something."
He nodded, clutching her hand, finally agreeing to something easily, he was hungry and if he didn't get food soon he felt he might just pass out. He sighed, thinking about how much of all this was his fault and what a mess it was.

*New Day - for Blink* Hermione really didn't need to be down at the distribution center, as it wasn't part of her job, but she worked so hard on each edition that it was kind of rewarding to see it being handed out. So every morning she could manage, she'd come down here with the last of her breakfast and watch her newspaper being sold. Granted, it wasn't her newspaper, but after spending two hours with her brother getting the front page to look "just so" for an important headline...it almost felt like it. The newsies always managed to make her laugh with their constant happy chatter and devil-may-care attitudes. All their goofing off reminded her of her family and it helped ease the homesickness a bit. Of course, it helped her mood that %99 of the boys down here were extremely attractive...but she would never admit that. oscar and Morris were eyeing her, like they always did when she hung out behind the window, so she decide it was time to be moving on. Finishing up her breakfast tart, Cameo brushed the crumbs off her hands, hopped off the crate she had been sitting on, and scooted out the back door. After making a loop around the side of the building, she spotted a bench that was facing the front and sat down. Only half the newsies were left now, but they were all her favourites.

Blink wasn't a morning person, had never been. People often questioned his decision of becoming a newsie after learning this key bit of information. Truth be told, Blink didn't consider his life a decision. He'd been a newsie for as long as he could remember, and couldn't imagine doing anything else. Being broke was a bitch sometimes, but he always made due somehow. He managed most of his necessities, and those he couldn't afford could often be won with a charming word and flirty smile.
But to the point, Blink managed life as a newsie strictly with a little help from his friends. Though he was groggy and stupid immediately after waking, the other boys were usually able to scrounge up a little more animation, and their moods were infectious. By the time they'd piled out of the washroom in the morning, Blink could usually manage to be as perky as any of them.
Things had changed lately, though. More and more of the boys were struggling in the mornings. Spending nights having bad dreams, struggling with bandages and pain, trying to come to terms with what they'd seen or did in the battle for their friends' lives... Few people could manage anything close to cheerful first thing in the morning, and those who could Blink believed were faking it. Either way, his own disposition tended toward the surly--at least until his morphine lozenges kicked in. Taking one as soon as he shoved his way to the sink usually saw him at something close to his normal level of vigor by the time he'd gathered his daily papers and headed off into the world. And now that one arm was trapped in a sling on top of his standard eye patch, he was having much more luck with the sympathy sell.
Leaving the distribution center, all set to start hawking his wares, he spied a girl seated on a nearby bench, watching the newsies as they left to make their rounds. She was a cute one, and Blink was feeling flirty (though that was hardly a headline). He recognized her a bit, he though, might have seen her hanging out around Manhattan before...
Maybe she'd give a one-eyed, one-armed newsie a break today. Ambling along the street, slowly making his way in her direction, Blink waved a paper in the air, shouting, "Little girl loses head on El Train! Parents seeking justice!"
