That didn't mean she had to be an adult either. There was a good fine line between adult and well... not being an adult. Your age played barely a factor in it, it was how you acted and how you saw the world around you. It was the same thing with being rich. Yeah, he was cleaned up and dressed, but you can guarantee in a few days he'll be right back to looking like the old Ace and everything would be the way it was supposed to be. Or near to it anyway.
He snorted and pushed at her lightly. "Hey, hey." He chuckled though and just shrugged. His eyes glittered before he just stretched and smirked. "I'll tell you though, It was nice to put Leone in jail." His eyes glittered with that. It was what had taken so long.

She lifted both her brows and turned on him in near shock, to hear-- that.. "He is?" Why did just the sound of that make her--- happier. She'd hated the man with a passion, he'd even made life hard on her Aunt Savi, one of the reasons the woman had abandoned New York for San Francisco. Kissing Danny's cheek she hugged him, "That's-- a wonderful thing.."
She even spoke softer, like her old self, not as loud or like she was fighting so hard up hill to be something more then just a girl who had pretended to be a boy, now just gambling to survive. She was-- Miri... like she was when she was with Sneaks.
"Better then letting the blighter run around and make our lives hell right?"

Ace slowly nodded. "It took a while, but... he is." There was caught a lot of reasons to hate the man. A lot Ace refused to mention, though there were a few people who did know most of the details. The rest, well, those were for him alone. He held her close and hugged her back, smiling. "Yeah. Yeah it is."
He chuckled at her, and took his hat off to run fingers through his hair, just letting it get ruffled by the light wind running along the river. "He shouldn't be able to get out for a while, I have most of the money in the family anyway, so there shouldn't be any way for him to bribe the guards or anything."

She laughed and nodded, taking her own fingers and messing up his hair right for good measure. "Yeah, probably not.... best to let the sleeping dog lie and hide a gun under your pillow--" It was strange how she went right back to how they had been-- even in the time where women were second class, this one could still just do as she liked. And probably would forever.

He made a soft, slightly irritated sound when she did that, considering his hair had a slight tendency to fluff around his face when people did that. Like now. But he just ran his fingers back through it and settled the strands down. He chuckled and just nodded. "Shotgun." He teased, finally pulling his hat back on his head. "How's my city been?" He couldn't stop it, even if he wanted to. Yeah, the Bronx was technically not his city anymore, but it was force of habit, and there really wasn't any weight to the words when he said them.

His eyes, his voice, she nodded. "Dodger's taking good care of the Bronx, Ace. He's a good leader, a smart one-- and things are okay--" she shook her head and ran her fingers threw his hair again with a grin. "Well, aside from the price hike--"
Lucky technically wasn't a newsie, the last time she'd sold papers had been a long time ago, probably before Ace had left. But the hike effected Brooklyn and all of her friends and loved ones. If Brooklyn went to war, so did she.

"I know. He's a good guy." He really was. He just couldn't stop calling it his city. It was instinct. He was all happy thinking about the city around him, until he heard what she said and he sat up a bit, eyebrows raised. "The what?" There he went, his voice dropping a bit into that age old protective tone he hadn't used in so long. "They hiked the prices? To what?"
He hadn't been much of a newsie even when he'd been leader. He'd stepped back and let the others, let his kids, get the money he could have gotten. Made no difference to him. He didn't need a job, with the money he had now, but he knew he'd be out looking for something as soon as he got himself a place to say. " Think Dodge will let me stay at the lodging house until I find an apartment?" He mused.

Her lips curved as she watched him, shaking her head-- some things would never changed and she prayed to god that Ace was one of them. Though-- growth was not change, he'd grown a lot too. She tugged on his hair fondly, something she'd only done with people she cared for deeply. "I don't know, I'm a shitty newsie so I have been avoiding it.." she tilted her head and then let it fall back so she could look up at the clouds. When he asked about Dodger she laughed and looked back at him, "Sure, it's Sam-- he's the Artful Dodger..."

Ace wasn't really one of them. He changed a little, here and there, and he was a little more grown up now. But that was also something that would be explored as time went on. How much had he grown up? Even he didn't know. He smiled softly when she tugged on his hair and he just flashed her a brilliant smile in return.
"I'm gonna have to check that out." He murmured, half under his breath. He chuckled at her laugh and just nodded. "It'll be nice to stay in the Bronx again. I'm really hoping I can get an apartment here." He grinned to himself, imaging Dodger's face when he walked back in. "I have half a mind to go surprise him before word gets out."

She lifted her brows and smiled, she looked like she'd grown. Miranda was a fighter and a survivor, now she was starting to look more like a woman and less like a punk kid. "Heh, you grew up on me, Dan." It was-- comforting to know it. Spot, well he'd never grew up. He was like Peter Pan or something. Always young forever.
If she took the time, put on a dress and did her hair up right she would be a beautiful woman, not just a girl playing at the games of men. One day she'd learn that being a woman had advantages being a man did not.
"He'd probably be happy to see you, he was surprised they wanted him to be leader when you'd left but he's done a good job of it.."

"Did I?" Ace looked down at his hands in front of him. "How much?" He really hadn't meant to, hadn't tried to. There was a line to comforting growing up and too much growing up. He just wanted to know he hadn't crossed that line yet. She was growing on him, though, he could see it, and he smiled. A little happy and a little sad.
She could be, and he had half a mind to make her do it one of these days, take her out to dinner and let her get dressed up. It would be fun at least. "I'm sure he has. I knew he could do it." He'd grab her and they'd go for a little walk here in a moment.

"So did I, tell that to Sam though, he's so used to doing things on his own and-- " She sighed, yes-- they had lost people Ace knew. Skits was gone and so was Pie Eater and Lukas Burg. "Umm.. Danny..." She kissed his cheek, didn't want to be the one to tell him those kinds of things, to know he'd lost friends and she was still mourning in her heart. "Nevermind.."

Ace was surprised at the sudden change in the mood and he frowned at her, eyebrow raising slowly at the kiss to his cheek and the way she said his name. It was usually Ace unless she was feeling a surge of emotions - good or bad. "What is it?" He said softly, reaching out and touching her cheek. "Don't even try this one on me, bella. Tell me."

Damn him! If Spot saw her now he'd call her weak, she wasn't sure what her leader thought of one of her closest friends. She lifted her head and smiled, though it was almost watery. "Heh, Skits and I were hanging out since Spot had kicked me out of Brooks-- going at it-- we-- we were gonna go dig up my old man's money in the cemetery..... he uh.. he didn't wake up the next morning.." She still hadn't fully settled on that. He'd had TB, she thought he'd get over it like Sneaks had but-- he never woke up and they'd gotten so damn close.

Ace knew that smile and he bit his bottom lip before she'd even started talking. And when she did, he rather... wished she hadn't. But that was childish and he just stayed silent, looking out over the water. He knew that it was too lucky what she'd said. He'd had friends, he'd had quite a few friends. He knew not all of them could have gotten away from it. "Who else?" He asked softly, and there was an old note in his voice, that note that said 'just tell me'.
