She grabbed a towel and placed it in his hand over the wound, "There.." Oh dear. She was still a lovely shade of pink on her cheeks but she tried very hard to pretend nothing was going on before she brushed her still damn hair back from her shoulder and let him get away.
"The red squirrels, I'll show you later.." she nodded. How this girl could manage embarrassment such as this came from having two brothers in a way and no real privacy back in the bayou. But she could feel his nervousness so she backed away to locate another towel for her hair.
Blink had no rights to her at the moment as far as she was concerned, hell half the reason she had been in the bath had been because of him. Luckily this incident erased much of that days incident from her mind in favor a far more embarrassing one. She was sure she would be alone again any moment but she had done what she thought she needed to do. Even though her own hand was cramping now, punching someone was hard work how did those Brooklyn girl's do it?
She opened and closed her hand as it cramped up but got the towel for her hair and moved back to the tub, she needed to drain it before Jack had a cow about the entire washroom smelling like girls.

Though he was still embarrassed as anything, and couldn't seem to talk the blush out of his face again, Snoddy tried to reason with himself that if Brook--the one who actually got violated in this escapade--was willing to pretend that it didn't happen, he should be able to, too. It was an accident, right? And it's not like he'd never seen--oh no, forget it, he was not going there now.
He took a step back when she finished cleaning his hand for him, and pressed the towel against the wound, staunching the last of the blood flow.
"Thanks, Brook," he started, forcing his voice to remain level and casual. "Um, I'm going to step outside again, so you can finish getting dressed and everything. But, um, would you... would you be interested in showing me those red squirrels sometime? Today, maybe? Or--well, or not, if you don't wanna. That's okay, too, I'd understand."

She paused and looked at him and then smiled, though she was blushing still. "I'll finish cleanin up in here, mon che. Then we can go find the squirrels I remember what tree they're in.." she forgot she wasn't exactly all the way dressed and flushed a bit before she shook her head. If she didn't think about it. It wasn't happening.
"Just gotta dump the tub before Jack comes in and gets all upset bout it smellin like Magnolia in here.."

Snoddy nodded and went to the door, opening it and stepping out in the cooler, drier air outside the washroom, giving Brook the necessary privacy to finish her bath time rituals. Before closing the door, he turned back and stuck his head in again.
"I can't speak for Jack, of course," he said, giving her a small smile, "but personally, I like the smell. A lot."

She blushed a little and smiled at him, she had no idea anyone would be that sweet to her. "Go on," she waved him off. "I'll be out in a minute.."
It wasn't that long to dump out the water and put things to rights, get dressed and brush out her hair. She decided she wanted to tell Snoddy WHY she was in the bath to begin with and about Specs punching some creeper for grabbing her. Oddly it seemed like her day was getting better.
When she stepped out of the washroom she was fully dressed and dry her hair curling around her shoulders as she closed the door behind here. "There, all done.." She smelled like home to her, and she was glad that she didn't smell like fish. "It's a clean and hopefully Jack doesn't complain.."

"Go on. I'll be out in a minute..."
Snoddy left her to it and hurried back to the boys' bunk room to hunt down a clean handkerchief. By the time he found one, managed to wrap his own hand with it, and returned to the washroom door, Brook had finished getting dressed and cleaning up after herself.
Skin clean, hair soft, and smelling faintly of magnolia blossoms, the vision of Brook was almost enough to teach Snoddy just what men meant when they said that a woman "took my breath away." He felt himself start to flush up again at the memory of what had transpired a few minutes earlier, and turned away for a moment to mask his brief return of embarrassment by clearing his throat.
"There, all done. It's all clean and hopefully Jack doesn't complain..."
"If he does, I'll just have to tell him it was worth it," Snoddy said, surprising himself with how husky his voice sounded. He cleared his throat again and quickly changed the subject, holding up his bandaged hand. "All ready, too. Shall we go?"

She didn't notice the change in his tone, he was a good friend. And she smiled softly as she nodded, "Oui. I know exactly where to go.." she didn't have anything she needed to get so she pulled her hair back off of her shoulders as she started to walk out of the washroom towards the hall.
"It's been a rough day, mon che." And how. She really didn't know that she was on the scale of amazingly beautiful. The boys were so used to her being around she wasn't sure anyone actually noticed her that way. She'd been called pretty by Specs a million times but she always assumed it was just because he was being Specs. She knew better and she loved him dearly. "I should have locked the door," she muttered silently as she turned and tossed her hair out of her face to wait for him.
"You'll have ta show me the magpies when we get to the park." If they would have been in the Bayou she'd have show him the baby gators. The Bayou was full of life, she wasn't the kind of girl that was afraid of bugs or getting dirty--though smelling like fish just made her angry when it wasn't her fault.

It took Shortstack about twenty minutes to find the washroom. She was soaked from head to toe from her swim in the lake, blaming Shamrock for her frozen state, but remembering how worth it the swim had been in the blazing heat. The washroom was empty, and she double and triple-checked before she pumped some water into a tub and slid in. The water was cold, but not as cold as she was, so she felt some relief. Relaxing with her eyes closed, she began to wonder what life would be like here. She had never shared a room with another girl before... she hoped they weren't extremely prissy and feminine, and if they were that they wouldn't try to make her something she wasn't. Although, she supposed you couldn't be too girly to be a newsie.
Then she started to think about the newsies. The ones she had seen all looked so worried. Kids were going missing left and right apparently, meaning everyone was in danger, including her. She was tough, no doubt about it, but she was still a girl when it came down to it. What if the kidnappers were big guys...with weapons? Shortstack had a feeling her pocket knife wouldn't hold up in a fight against these people...
