"Maybe, we still have to go to Medda's for a show sometime." He said with a smile, he remembered when they had talked about going to a show together. Moving his hand a bit he laced his fingers through hers and looked up at the trees as they started into a more shady area. Even though he was curious about where everyone was he was glad no one was in the park, it was more peaceful.
"Hmmm," He said thoughtfully trying to think of something to talk about, "Anything interesting happen over here?" Drifter asked lamely scratching the back of his neck. He hated when he couldn't think of anything to say.

"Not really, just the same ol same ol." Piper replied to him and smiled as he was trying to find something to talk about. She could see he was uneasy about trying to start a conversation and she squeezed his hands gently, hoping he would know she didn't mind the silence between them.
She then saw some boy over on the other side of the park giving them stares, well mostly her stares. She saw their eyes on her and she then suddenly felt uneasy about being her now. Though she was with Drifter, some boys who gave her looks like that would only want one thing on their mind. She walked closer to Drifter and without thinking placed her other open hand on his arm, hoping to stay close and not look suspicious.

He smiled and looked down at her giving her hand a squeeze in return, and kept silent as they walked letting the quiet envelope them.
He looked down at her curiously when she moved closer to him and put her other hand on his arm. "You okay?" He asked but then followed her gaze to the other boy that were looking at her. Narrowing his eyes he gave them a glare and wrapped his arm around her shoulder. He wasn't one to start a fight but he would definitely fight these guys if they tried anything.

Piper nodded her head and she felt a arm go around her shoulder. She kept her stance firm as they walked close together, keeping her head down and near Drifter. They walked and stopped near a bench and Piper quickly sat down on the bench.
"I'm sorry about that. I hate it when boys stare at me as if..." Piper trailed off and held her head in her hands, wanting to forget those boys, all of the boys. She hated the fact that not only was she looked at as if she was property, but all girls.

Drifter sat down next to her and put a hand gently on her shoulder giving it a soft squeeze of reassurance. He looked back around the park but the boys seemed to have left, taking in a calming breath he turned back to Piper.
"It's ok," He said with a smile. "I won't let anyone hurt you." He held his hand out for hers and gave her a little nudge to try and brighten up the mood. He didn't like seeing Piper all sad like this.

Piper nodded her head and felt his hands in her again. She heard him vow to never let anyone hurt her. She felt better already and she whipped away some of her tears in her eyes, hoping to get the sadness away from the mood.
"Sometimes I wish I was ugly so boys would leave me alone..." She mumbled, looked back down in the joined hands in between them.

"Even if ya were, I'd still come by and bug ya." He said nudging her with his shoulder as he smiled at her. Giving her hand a squeeze he stood up again pulling her with him, seeing Piper sad like this was making him sad, he wanted her to smile to maker her feel better.
"Come on, lets go get something ta eat huh?" Drifter offered rubbing his thumb on her hand. "It's on me, anything ya want." Sending her his usual charming smile he pulled her closer wrapping his arm around her shoulder again.

PIper smiled when he told her he was still going to bug her. He was starting to grow on her, which was first pleased her, but now it scared her. She didn't want to loose him like she did her parents and almost her brother. It always happened to the people who were so close to her, they are there one minute, and then the next they're gone.
"Okay." She replied, seeing a smile on his face and she smiled back, loving to see him smile when they were close together. She loved his embrace when he pulled her close, trying to ease her worries and anxiety.

~New~
Eli finished shining the man's shoe and recieved his tip; a nickel. Maybe the man felt bad for him, or he was just generous. Eli wasn't really concerned, he had earned a nickel! Mama will be so happy! Eli thought, almost singing with joy. Of course, he would only embarass himself, so he stayed silent. "Thank you, very much, Sir." Eli said plesantly. The man nodded once, quickly, and sauntered away.
Eli glanced around, not many people. He didn't mind. Eli didn't mind a lot of things. He spotted a lovely bed of flowers, a type he had never seen before. They were bright, joyful, like they were glad to be alive. Eli walked over and began to inspect it. It had just a few sprinkling of spots, very light, faded almost. What a discovery! He decided that tonight, he would prepare a spot in his garden for it, then tomorrow he would dig up on flower-roots and all-and plant it.
Eli loved this flower so much, he decided to have his lunch by it. His mother had packed him a small lunch that morning. He hadn't eaten it at school and now, he was hungry. Eli dug through his knapsack. Half a loaf of fresh bread, an apple, and best of all, hard candy. His mother had probably bought it only yesterday, for she had been paid that day by the white ladies whose washing she did.
Eli bit into the apple, it was fresh, and good. He savored it, letting the flavor envelop him, blocking everything else from his mind. There were two things in this world Eli understood, Flowers and Food.

Mush had seen a pretty young girl just down the street. As he hurried down the street he held a stack of papers in one hand and a single paper in the other. As he hurried down the street he had a bit of tunnel vision and didn't see a boy sitting beside a flower bed eating his lunch.
Without looking Mush stumbled over the boy, he was sure he did, and as he did he held on to a tree to keep himself from falling all over himself, and all over the place. He only managed to lose hold of the single paper that was in one hand. He recomposed himself quickly and dusted his hands off on his pants before he picked up the paper. He then came around the tree to see what caused him to loose his footing.
Upon seeing Eli on the ground Mush smiled a little bit as he got the top paper back in order, and then picked up a less wrinkled fresh one. "Hey there kid, might wanna watch your legs, or somethin'? Last thing I wanna do is see ya get hurt by a wagon owner who ain't watchin' where he's goin'," He smiled at the boy good naturedly. "You okay kid?"

Eli had closed his eyes, the more to enjoy the apple. Then, someone-bigger then him he was sure-stumbled over him. Eli's eyes snapped open and he lost his grip on the apple, it rolled away.
Eli looked at the boy. He had lost his paper. Eli tried to read the headlines, but the boy picked up before he had gotten the jist of it. "Hey there kid, might wanna watch your legs, or somethin'? Last thing I wanna do is see ya get hurt by a wagon owner who ain't watchin' where he's goin'," He smiled at the boy good naturedly. "You okay kid?"
"S-sorry. I was eating and I g-got caught up in it..." Eli stammered, he looked down and fiddled with his jacket as the boy smiled at him. "T-thanks for being so n-nice though." Eli murmured. He half-smiled and quickly glanced up at him. Eli gathered his legs underneath him and commenced to clean up his lunch.
"Do you want any? Mama always says that I should share what I have with others." He gestured to his haversack. "I got bread and hard candy. I-it's apple flavored too..." Eli drifted off.

Mush chuckled. "Ya got caught up in eating?" He picked up the apple that had rolled away from Eli and dusted it off on his shirt as well. "Naw, I'm alright, I ate earlier," he said. He examined the apple, wasn't too damaged, before he offered it back to Eli. "Here ya go kid."
"And while we're on the subject, why you eatin' out here? Why not find a park bench or somethin'?" he asked with a small smile. I mean sittin' next to flowers and trees is fun, but benches are safer," he said as a joke.

NEW DAY *FOR DAVEY* Fighter strode through the park, her walk brisk since she was in a hurry to get back to Brooklyn. She'd had to make a stop in Harlem because the guilt of what she'd done was weighing on her mind and she simply decided not to deal with it. She knew someone who had some drugs that helped you lose yourself in a fantasy world and that was what she had in her pocket right now. The first thing Fight had done when she got back was shower and then fulfill her promise to Gwennie. After that she couldn't keep her mind off of the feeling of blood on her hands and had decided to use drugs to forget. It was the only thing she could think of since booze wasn't working. Glancing around the park she sighed, so many people who had no idea what had occurred right under their noses. She scoffed at the thought, 'Friggin morons. That's what this city is full of.'

David was walking in the park, hands shoved in his pockets and eyes looking down at the ground. For the first time in what felt like forever he was alone, not surrounded by the other Newsies or his family or anything but his own thoughts that danced dangerously close to depressing. They'd made it back to Manhattan and Irving Hall that same night, David had cleaned himself up, let a pretty Irish girl bandage up his arm and then had made his rounds trying to see who had survived the night.
In all the hubbub he'd lost track of Fighter and Gwennie, and he wondered often how they were, especially Fighter. He had a feeling that they had both learned some things about themselves that night...some of them not altogether pleasant. Kicking at a rock he watched it roll for a bit and wished he could erase the sight of the blood staining his hands and the grim look from his mother when he'd finally thought to head home.
Which was why he was here, away from his mother's concerned gaze and Les' prying questions. He loved his family but he had never felt more disconnected from them. He glanced up and spotted the slight figure of a girl heading in his direction and as she drew closer, he realized who it was and felt a tugging in his gut. Well, she seemed to be alright.
He heard her mutter something about a city full of morons and he smiled a little, shoving his hands a little deeper in his pockets. "All of us? Or just some of us?" He asked, watching her carefully.

Fighter paused when she heard the familiar voice, she didn't need to look up to know who it was. Although she was suprisingly happy to hear it, it brought the memories crashing to the forefront of her mind. Looking up she forced a sardonic smirk, "I'd say everyone excluding the two of us."
Pausing, Fight stuck her hands in her pockets as she studied David. He seemed to be faring about as well as she was, his eyes showed that he was troubled. She couldn't blame him, hell she was surprised he was standing there talking to her. No one else really knew what she'd done to that man. She was sure Birdie assumed but David had seen it.
Pulling out a cigarette she lit it and stood there awkwardly. It wasn't often that she felt this way around someone. She usually always had something to say even if it usually was something offensive. After a moment she glanced away and took a deep drag of her cigarette. "How ya been?"
