Fate or luck, not being the ways to describe this occurrence, all she could think that would lead them to one another was life and the choices they had made. She would have been different and grown up differently in the Bronx, but she hadn't. She never would have given Red a second look if Brooklyn had been her home, but he knew she wouldn't make it there. As for destiny? Maybe, but it was only destiny because they made it so, not some unnamed force in the universe pulling them together. Just two lives happening to sync up just right. It happened on occasion, she believed.
Kissing? She could get used to kissing, she would happily improve and get used to kissing. Though it was making her quite nervous in broad daylight, what was she supposed to do, insist they go back to her room at the lodging house? Maybe that wasn't such a bad idea. Being outside the lodging house without her hat on would start to make her nervous here fairly soon, and she'd at least want to put it on and replace her hair if they weren't going to be heading in doors.. However, Red's words stunned her as he explained why he thought she'd never want him. She had expected him to list off his own faults, or hers, or something negative like that. But as for what he said? She wasn't prepared for that. "That ain't true," she said shaking her head. She could think of several boys that she could simply list off who wouldn't be interested in being with her and that was completely fine! Most of them she wasn't interested in either. For example, "I'm pretty sure Spot dislikes me a little too much to ever wanna be with me," she joked. She couldn't help it. "And b'sides, yeah," she said affirming it once more, "I want you," she said it gently and with a small smile to him. "And I usually get what I want, one way or another," she added with a broad smile and a wink to him before she kissed him this time. She was happy, elated even, and it was easy to see by the way she joked, smiled and laughed. She was very content at the moment, now things just needed to stay the way they were.
