"And I look forward to being the one to escort you," Jerry said, giving Daisy a small smile. He hated the fact that their evening together had to end, he'd found her presence so very comforting and reassuring, such pleasant company and such a welcome change. But they'd exhausted every possible excuse for dragging out their time just a little longer and a little longer and a little longer still. There was nothing left for them to dip into, short of indecent suggestions--and Jerry could feel himself coloring just thinking the word "indecent". "I will see you again tomorrow night, then. Perhaps... perhaps a little earlier, if I wouldn't be too much trouble?" He was not a fan of the pub at all, being neither a drinker nor a fighter, and the thought of getting pulled into a fight terrified him under normal circumstances; now he'd have to suffer the humiliation of losing that fight in front of Daisy, were it to happen. But that was a risk he was willing to take if it meant he could see Daisy just a little bit sooner.
"Good night, Miss Daisy," he said reluctantly, reaching for her apartment door and pulling it open. With the light of the hallway spilling in, making him feel less as though they had barricaded themselves in to hide from the prying eyes of the world, Jerry felt just a twinge of boldness. Quickly leaning in, before he could lose his nerve again, he stole one final kiss, gently touching his lips to hers, a tiny gesture to assuage the ache inside him at the thought of leaving her to return to his dark, desolate room upstairs.
