Between the headline he had…borrowed… from the girl, and a few clever improvements of his own, Banshee was down to the last twenty papes from the hundred he had begun his day with. Feeling a bit more satisfied with how the day was progressing, he debated on whether to try and finish off the last of the lot here, or sell of the remaining few on his way back to McGinty’s. Watching the crowd as he debated, he heard the approaching footsteps a few seconds before he felt the tap on his arm, and rolled his eyes a little, having a pretty good idea who it was.
Sure enough, he glanced down to find the girl was back and looking up at him with a tiny smile. Cocking his eyebrow, he stared down at her, noticing she had sold a decent amount of her papes and wondering what in the hell she could possibly want now. His brow raised further at her words and he glanced at her outstretched hand. No doubt the lass wanted to give him money, and Banshee was of half a mind to take it despite his earlier decision to call it even with the headline until he looked back at her face. She looked so bloody sincere, and though Banshee knew that eventually she would have to learn that nine times out of ten, sincerity equaled getting taken advantage of, he for damned sure didn’t want to be the one to teach her that lesson today. Giving her an almost kind smile, he shook his head. “Sure, ya don’t owe me nothin’ for that, love….” He shrugged, almost uncomfortable, as she continued to stare up at him with her hand still outstretched. “Really… It wasn’t nothin’ ya wouldn’t o’ picked up on your own eventually, an’ besides, didn’t I just sell most o’ my papes with your headline?” So it was an outright lie, as he had sold a fair bit, but nowhere near all on that one, but if it got her to keep her money… “I’d say that makes us even, yeah?”
