Smiley stood waiting in her line for her papes. She sighed, she missed Mark already. She had only met him yesterday but he was sooo nice. He was so caring and kind, he was the loving family she had never had. She started humming the tune he had hummed for her the other night to help her sleep. She drifted off not even noticing that the line was moving. She was thinking of his big grin and the way he held her and gave her kisses on the forehead. She missed him so much.

After Mark went back to his apartment to get changed and washed. He ate breakfast on the way, and he went back to Manhattan to see Smiley one last time before he had to go back to work at the docks in Brooklyn. Finishing off his last piece of bread, he grinned and put his hands in his pockets.
Glancing around, he spotted her and jogged up to her, his blonde locks bouncing around. Once he got to her, he lifted her off her feet and into his arms. "Hey Smiley."

"I was just thinking about you!!" She exclaimed, wrapping her small petite hands around his big ones.

Mark laughed. "Well, that's good. So, how many papers do you usually buy, huh?" He laughed more as her hands wrapped in his.

"I buy a hundred papes, Mark. I started off with twenty but Jack says I prog....prog...progressed quickly." She told him having some trouble with the word. She grinned up at him.

His eyes widened. "A Hundred? Well, how long does it take you to sell all of them in one setting?" He tried to use small words with her, not really wanting to explain things to early in the morning.

Smiling, he put her down on the ground. "Ok, buy your papers so I can buy one from you." Mark crossed his arms and waited for her to go up to the counter and get her papers.

"A'right Mark!" She skipped up to the counter and reached up to put her money there. She was short and a little shorter then the counter. She stood on her tippy toes and told Weasel how many papes. She grabbed them and skipped back over to Mark.

When she came back over, he smiled and took her hand. "Alright. Let's go selling. I can stay with you for a while, but not all day. I'll take you to lunch, then I gotta go."

"A'right. So Mark, how many crates do ya lift at da docks? Where we gonna go? Can we go to Tibbys?" Smiley asked three questions at once while grabbing Mark's hand and pulling him towards the streets.

Mark laughed. "Well, I usually lift from 100-200 a day. Yes we can go to Tibby's. And you can get whatever you want." As he held her hand, he grinned at her.

At her next question, he drew in a sharp breath. "No, Smiley. I don't have any other friends at the docks, and I am always lonely."
