That's awesome! That would be awesome to go see.
Also, wasn't the Paper Mill where Anne Hathaway made her acting debut? Or is there another Paper Mill theater?

Crutchy is a pivotal character......... BAHHH. I wonder if the song originally written for Sarah ("What Will Become of the Boy?" Yes?) will be added for Katherine. Slash what do y'all think Katherine's personality will be? I'm skeptical about this. Changing Sarah's name does not change the fact that she was tragically born without a personality and she and Jack have the LEAST chemistry I've ever seen between two characters. Yikes! I'm really curious what song they decided to cut! My first thought was maybe "King of New York," just because that was originally intended to be cut from the film...however, it's also easily one of the most popular and well known songs from the movie. ...Do you think it's "Once and For All?" I'll be mad. That has such good lyrics! It's such a slap in the face! Even if it is just used for montage purposes.. Bah, I bet that's the one they cut. Saddest day. I think that one would actually look badass on stage! They could print real "Newsie Banners" to dump on the audience! Haha

once and for all was my fave song --- then again trying to cut a song from that movie, any song and people get upset. Sadly Once and For All wasn't a dance number-- -_- lame sauce.

If they re-write King of New York, then I'll be really mad. That's one of my favorites. "Once and For All" is good too.
I like that this is coming to Broadway...It's been a long time coming.

According to a friend of mine (who has done more research than I) They're thinking of taking away some of the chorus members newsie names. For example: Mush, Blink, and changing them into something a little more basic... like George. No joke. I don't like that plan personally.
However, what did occur to me as I was listening to the sound track today, is maybe they cut one of Medda's songs? I mean, would the show survive without Lovey Dovey Baby? Somehow, I don't think this is the case, but it's possible all the same.
And as for the girl newsie? It turns out his daughter did Newsies as a summer camp as a child (both daughters are huge fans according to one of the articles) and she made up a character called "Swifty" (apparently she didn't realize there already was one. >.<) but a long time ago she requested that there be a girl newsie in the show. Whether it'll happen or not, couldn't say, but I wouldn't look for it, lol

They might just butcher it. In which case I'd be annoyed. I hope it does not become a sappy crappy Disney-tastrophe. But, I have hope that they'll stay true to the original. I hope they won't replace the names. I can understand if they don't have the time to specifically identify all the characters but they shouldn't cut those characters and replace them with stock newsies.

The cast of the musical was on The View today to do a medley of Seize the Day and Santa Fe. Some of the lyrics are different, which is a little weird for me when I'm singing along in my head (incidentally, I always really liked the line "I need space, not just air, let them laugh in my face, I don't care," and changing "not just air" to "and fresh air" doesn't set well with me, but whatever). Anyway, here's the video:
Also, for those who haven't been following the production but still wanted to know: I don't think anyone's names have been changed, but parts have been eliminated. In the musical, there is no Racetrack, Boots, Mush or Skittery. Also, I'm sketchy on Katherine's part, but I'm under the impression that she's a female incarnation of Denton. Don't quote me on that, though, I could be completely wrong.
ANYWAY. Thoughts?

I stand corrected, Racetrack *did* make the cut (though it appears his name is just "Race" now): And here's another video, a behind-the-scenes for their appearance on the View. You get some great shots of their costumes here. And dude, I don't think there's one straight boy on the cast. XD Also, someone please tell me that I wasn't the only one who had inappropriate feelings at 1:12. >_> ETA: Also, just found this video reel of Tommy Bracco, the new Spot Conlon. As a dancer, he is quite impressive. As the leader of Brooklyn... what do you think? ETA2: And here's an old audition tape from Ryan Breslin (aka Race), in which he sang Santa Fe. I don't know what he was auditioning for, but I like his rendition. And then there is dancing. (Btw, coming up with all these reports, I feel like the board's Denton. Someone get me a really ugly bowtie and a pedovest, stat!)

Teaser video of the stage show. It would be awesome if they actually did an official video of the performance and marketed it. I'd pay real life monies for that.
