MAEBY KATHERINE MURPHY
NAME: Maeby
NICKNAME: None
AGE: 17
COUNTRY OF ORIGIN: America, of Irish decentPERSONALITY
Owing to her hard-knock past, Maeby comes off as a quick-witted and fiery little pistol. She can be terribly sarcastic and stubborn, usually pushing people away with an attitude seemingly apathetic. She is defensive, judgmental and proud at first meeting. All of this, however, is simply her defense mechanism and an attempt to keep herself from being hurt. Those that manage to gain Maeby's trust will find that she is actually a very loyal, thoughtful girl who will have your back through thick and thin.
However snarky and quippy the girl may be, Maeby is very clever and even quite calculative. She is an excellent thief and skill bartender, unfailingly loyal to those she cares for and undeniably sharp. To those close to her, she is also extremely affectionate and possessive. She has many faults, as you can see, but she mostly means well.HISTORY
Born to Liam and Ruth Murphy, Maeby was the second and last of two children. Her birth was a complicated one and her mother, already frail with sickness, did not live to greet her newborn. Liam, at one time a very loving man, was crippled by the loss of his beloved wife. He turned to the bottle for consolation and soon came to neglect his young son and newborn daughter. An elderly neighbor woman cared for the children while Liam worked and drank himself into oblivion. The older Maeby grew, the more like her mother she came to look and thus her father could hardly stand to look at her.
Maeby became obsessed with stealing from a young age, starting with taking her father's beer bottle caps to create for herself nonsensical games. This unfortunate habit often resulted in her father's rage, which led to her being severely punished. Her brother, older by two years, learned quickly that he had to step in if he wanted to protect his very small sister from irreparable damage. A mere child himself, it was difficult to know how best to handle his father's rage and his baby sister's misbehavior.
It was a miracle that Maeby ever reached the age of five while in her father's care, and no doubt it was only due to her brother's constantly taken her punishments for her crimes. It was not long after her fifth birthday that Liam finally dumped Maeby at the Orphanage as punishment for her thievery. Her brother, Seamus, ran away from home that very night to try and reconcile with his little sister, but it was too late. Maeby had already been adopted.
The next several years found Maeby living with a modest family, working for her keep rather than being admitted as a part of the family. At age thirteen, she ran away from her situation after an unfortunate event involving the son of the man who had adopted her. The years that followed were hard ones for the child, who learned the hard way that the streets were no place for a young girl. She saw poverty, death, betrayal and many other terrors along the way.
When Maeby was sixteen, she was finally reunited with Seamus by chance when she entered McGinty's Pub in Brooklyn. Seamus, now known only as Zero, had come to work on the docks after running away from home all those years ago. They're quite close now and will probably remain so for a good long time--forever.Who are you?
