VICE INGRAM
NAME: Isaac Ingram
NICKNAME: Vice
AGE: 20
COUNTRY OF ORIGIN: United States of AmericaPERSONALITY
Vice lives a fairly care-free life, going where he pleases, doing whatever he wants whenever he wants, and charming more girls than he can keep count of. However, inside what used to be a sensitive young boy, is now a rock-solid crust of a man, and Vice has learned not to care for anyone but himself. He thrives off admiration and seeks to place himself in charge whenever he possibly can.
Of course, like most men, Vice would prefer to have people believe he has no fears, so he locks them away where no one will find them. By far, his greatest fear is that his pride will be damaged somehow, and he also lives on constant edge, afraid that his father will seek him out in revenge.HISTORY
Isaac Ingram was born to a working class family in a small, ramshackle house somewhere in the streets of Williamsburg, Brooklyn. His parents, Joseph and Louisa, struggled to provide for their new child, and conditions only worsened after three more children were added to the family--Molly, Stella, and Jem. As the eldest, Vice was sent to work in the streets, doing what few jobs he could to scrape in a little extra income for the family. What he did manage to bring back was never enough for his father, and more than once, Vice was forced to come up with highly improbable excuses to explain away the swelling of an eye or a bruised cheek. Louisa had become suspicious and, in truth, was very certain of the ever-heightening feud between her husband and eldest son, but said nothing.
By the time he was 14 years old, Vice had acquired a resentment toward Joseph that was steadily growing into something grotesque. He knew that the money his mother brought in from scrubbing the floors of rich female dogs, barking orders all day long, made it no further than the door of the filthy little house the Ingrams called a home. Except for the nights when he was too exhausted for thinking, Vice would lie awake, listening for his father's return, waiting for the stench of beer and his father's drunken laugh. Vice knew his father was nothing more than a lazy, thieving drunkard, and the shame of it enraged him. He no longer obliged to help his mother care for his siblings, and he began to despise her, too, for staying with and loving the wretch he had once called his father.
By this time, the family was barely surviving and although his own stomach was sick from hunger, Vice couldn't bear to see his sisters and brother starve, so he took to scavenging the streets for random bits of food, anything to keep his family alive; an idea that once would have brought him unspeakable shame had now become a reality, and Vice couldn't stand it. One night, when his father was still out, Vice gathered his few belongings together, took one last look at his sleeping family, and walked out the door for the last time. As he was stepping out into the night air, a burly figure appeared in the dark and Vice felt a sickening blow to his stomach. Dropping to his knees, he gasped for air as his father's heavy boots pummeled his sides and back unceasingly. Mustering strength he didn't know he had, Vice heaved upward, wrenched free of the strangling grip, and smashed a fist into Joseph's face, sending the drunk man reeling. Vice found his footing and raced as fast as he could through the streets of Brooklyn, across the dark and looming bridge, and into the Bronx.
Nearly six years have passed since that fateful night, and Isaac, now a father himself, struggles to balance his roles as parent, brother, and boyfriend with his own self-serving attitude. He works as a bellhop at the Weinstein Hotel in Brooklyn, but the money it brings is hardly enough to support his small family. The pressures of life weigh in heavily, and the temptation to walk away, to care only for himself, remains strong.Who are you?
