I have no life so I spent all of today going through the introductions page and tallying up the ages and genders of all of the characters whose intros are posted there (don't worry I actually did other things in between such as walking around so i don't get a pulmonary embolism or something like that) Anyway here are the results if anybody cares.
Gender: Females- 299 Males-186 undeclared- 2 (guests w/no stated genders and androgynous names) Age: 4 yrs- 1 5 yrs- 2 6 yrs- 4 7 yrs- 5 8 yrs- 6 9 yrs- 5 10 yrs- 1 11 yrs- 5 12 yrs- 6 13 yrs- 12 14 yrs- 24 15 yrs- 40 16 yrs- 97 17 yrs- 101 18 yrs- 37 19 yrs- 30 20 yrs- 7 21 yrs- 5 22 yrs- 7 23 yrs- 6 24 yrs- 2 25 yrs- 5 26 yrs- 5 27 yrs- 3 28 yrs- 3 30 yrs- 1 35 yrs- 1 40 yrs- 1 undeclared or unknown age- 71
so, you may ask, what have I learned from all of my hard work? well... virtually nothing, except the fact that we desperately need more boys.

Excellent, Gwennie. I agree, a lot of Newsies sites are for some reason seriously lacking boy characters... But that's very impressive. Great work!

XD Seriously you know that is as bad as my friend making a player character ratio chart on my board
And you wanna know why they lack boy characters? Fandom. Half the girls that join these sites want to hook up with the boy characters--

I agree with that, Lucky. A lot of it is fandom. I heard that only one out of every 15 newsies was a girl. Looks like some people didn't get the memo...

Well, considering this is an RPG based around a Disney movie-musical where boys sing and dance around, I think a lack of realism is only to be expected.
Plus, the movie does have a large following of younger girls who, yeah, think Spot is a dreamboat or want to be named Santa Fe so that they can imagine Jack's singing about them. I mean, it's silly, but, as someone who wrote some really terrible fic about Spot and his "goil", I'm pretty understanding. That said, I have since gotten over the pink/red suspender-donning boy.
Just my two cents! ... Or one cent. This is a Newsie RPG, so I can't be sparing the extra cash... oh, ha-ha-ha.
(Note: I'm really sorry; I'm kind of cracked out of my mind right now)

There weren't a lot of girl newsies? Well, pick me up and put me down! I bet next you're going to tell me that the newsies didn't sing and dance either! But ferserious, guys- Mabel's right. It's a RPG site- I don't think any historians are going to blow their tops if they stumble across a site catering to a fandom based around dancing, Disney boys who kick up their heels and sell newspapers.

Wow, that's nice to know. Here I was trying to come up with another girl character for my next add, thinking there wasn't enough of them.

Hm, I'm surprised. I've always thought the girl-to-boy ratio around here was pretty even.
Out of curiosity, where'd you file Don't Ask (http://ny1899.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=intros&action=display&thread=1640)? Male or female? (Lame, I can't read. D'oh!)

The relatively new posts on this thread inspired me to update it a bit so I added the genders and ages of all those registered characters with intros posted after August 14, 2008 (the last time I updated the list before today) to the tally. On paper it appears that we still have more girls than boys but, seeing as this tally doesn't take activity into consideration (I just don't have the mental wherewithall to do that detailed of a tally) It's quite possible that, among the active characters on the site, a good balance is maintained.

To right. We've got a good tally because of activity that it's pretty even. Though I have to say--- XD I only have one female in a borough that's ACTUALLY a newsie by trade. Gotta love that. XD
