So, as requested, here's a history of various big events that took place on the site. No, it's not specific. No, I don't have links to all the old threads involving said events. Sorry this is all I have the energy for. Hope it helps people out at least!
The Borough War:
It all began when a Brooklyn kid (Spike) was found dead in Manhattan. If you look in the ‘Inner New York’ thread you’ll see how flared tempers and rash accusations led to the split between Brooklyn & The Bronx / Manhattan & Queens. There was a truce laid out for the kid to have his funeral in the Queens church, and newsies from all the different boroughs came to pay their respects. The war was eventually put to an end, half because of some important reason I can’t recall and half because it just kind of died away.
The Raconteurs:
The Raconteurs were a band of thieves in New York who recruited kids, namely newsies, into a life of crime. They often used force to get members to join, and at one point even had the police force’s hands tied when they kidnapped the girlfriend of one of the officers, Arianette. They had locations in each of the boroughs, but their headquarters was and remains to this day in Queens. They have almost all disbanded at this point, except Nicholas Goodwell, who still lurks around the city.
The Tuberculosis Outbreak:
ny1899.proboards106.com/index.cgi?board=news&action=display&thread=309
The title of this plot is self explanatory. There was an outbreak of Tuberculosis in the city, and kids were getting sick by the bucket load. The admins drew names to see who would get it, and then PM said character that they just caught the sickness. There were a few casualties.
The Thieves Guild:
The Thieves Guild is reminiscent of the Raconteurs. Several newsies were members of the guild run by Buccaneer, Corsair, and Marauder. The deal was this, kids were pick pockets and thieves, and dropped when they collected to the guild, taking their cut of the total. This way, no one but the three leaders truly knew who all was involved, and most of the kids don’t know who else used to be a member. Now, after a long absence, the three have returned to New York. But for what purpose?
The Strike:
The price of a paper has gone up! Is your leader going to strike? If you disagree with your leader’s decision on this, will you move to another borough? Should prove to be interesting…
The Factory War:
The Five Points Gang:
(I can’t give random facts about all characters, for obvious reasons, but most newsies would probably be aware of the following)[/left]
Ace Cardoni was the leader of the Bronx newsies at the time of the borough war. The next leader, Dodger, was a Manhattan newsie. Dodger has since handed the reins over to his second, River, who is the current leader.
The first Queens leader, Prince, appeared to be a boy in public (for reasons she keeps to herself) and only her newsies and the other leaders knew the truth. Less than a year ago, Prince decided to leave the newsies and made Styx Kennedy the new leader. His second is Calico.
Spot kicks people out of Brooklyn. Just how it works there.
Jack Kelly did in fact go to Santa Fe for several months, but returned to New York, his true home.
