Enjoy the view of the water, and if ya want take a dip, or just relax and listen to the water.

*NEW DAY* Lexi sat on the edge of the beach, her bare feet in the water. It was freezing but she wasn't really paying attention to it as she drew circles in the sand next to her. She was worried about her brother because she hadn't seen him in awhile. Granted she hadn't really looked, but it was like he'd disappeared. She'd have to remember to ask one of the boys if he'd been around their lodging house. She should have paid closer attention to him instead of losing herself in her own grief. He was dealing with the same thing and she'd cut him out. It had been wrong of her but she couldn't change the past. She pulled her feet back from the edge of the water and buried them in the sand to warm them up a bit.

(OOC: Okay... Jewel's going to the beach in the Bronx. okay. Here goes nothing.)
Jewel had decided that it was time to leave Brooklyn for a while. Her travels had taken her to the Bronx...and to of all places...the beach.
She walked around looking at the surroundings, cause it had been a while for her since she'd ever been to the beach.
Her work as a newsie took her mostly around Brooklyn, so she'd never totally been to the other boroughs.....Except for Manhattan.
As she walked across the sand, she closed her eyes, and walked slowly, feeling the breeze on her face.
Just then she stopped walking suddenly. She spotted a girl sitting in the sand. She looked very calm.
Jewel approached the girl. She hoped that this girl was nicer than the other people she had encountered over the past few days.
She sat next to the girl "Hey there." she said.
Jewel looked out towards the water, and sighed "Wow, isn't it beautiful?" she asked.
(OOC: Okay, there we go. Hope what I wrote helps.)

Lexi glanced to her right, startled, as someone sat down next to her. She didn't recognize the girl, but offered her a friendly smile all the same. "Hello," Lexi responded quietly as she allowed her gaze to drift back towards the water. She could feel her melancholy drifting away and it was a relief, she wasn't sure she could take that feeling much longer.
"Very," Her response was once again subdued because her thoughts had begun to drift away. After a moment though she returned her attention to the girl who had taken a seat next to her. "I love it here. One of my favorite places to come."
She'd begun to enjoy spending time by herself lately when she wasn't working. It wasn't that she minded being around her fellow lodgers and friends, but since she'd begun to feel better she'd needed time and space for her thoughts. This was a pleasant enough place to sit or walk by. Plus, with the time of year it was not many people ventured down here.

Jewel followed the girl's gaze towards the water. She smiled at the view. It was nice to get out of Brooklyn once in a while, and to get away from all the unsavory characters she'd been in contact with over the last few days.
She then sighed, and finally spoke up to the girl "I've actually never been out this far before. I'm from Brooklyn, and I usually tend to stay within that area. But I have basically had it with that place." She sighed.
Jewel then stopped her rant short. She figured that she didn't want to annoy this girl too much, having just met her and all. She then spit in her hand, and stuck it out to the girl.
"My name's Julianne, but all the newsies who have known me for the last 2 years call me 'Jewel'.What your name? Where are ya from?" She asked the girl.
(OOC: Sorry its so short. Hope it helps.)

Lexi stayed silent as the girl spoke of her time in Brooklyn. It was sort of odd for her to hear someone from Brooklyn say that they didn't like it there. From what she had heard from other Brooklyn people she'd met they tended to love it a little too much. God forbid you slight Brooklyn in their presence. Thinking about it brought a small smile to her face as she thought about how in love (slightly obsessed) with Brooklyn and it's "king" her little brother had been.
When Lexi realized the girl had stopped talking she offered her a small shrug. "I don't have much experience with Brooklyn. I've only been a few times to visit a friend." Which reminded her that she hadn't spoken to Avalanche in awhile. Just another name to add to the growing list of people she hadn't spoken to in far too long.
As the girl introduced herself as Jewel, she spit in her hand and held it out to Lexi. Although Lexi knew that was a custom practiced between newsies in this area when they were introducing themselves it wasn't one she'd picked up since moving to the city. She paused a moment before extending her own hand towards the girl without spitting in it. The moment she removed her hand from the other girls she discreetly wiped it on her skirt. She wasn't by any means a girly girl but she wasn't comfortable having spit on her hand.
"I'm Lexi," She offered the girl a wide smile before brushing her hair back off of her face. "Oh, I live here in the Bronx at the girls lodging house. Though I'm from Jersey City, I moved here with my brothers a few years ago."

Jewel looked impressed. This girl seemed really nice. Jewel smiled at her luck *Wow, she's nice. she thought to herself.
"Wow, Jersey City. I've heard 'bout the place, but never been there. But from what I heard, it sounds lovely." She said.
At Lexi's mention of having brothers, Jewel smiled widely. "So, you have brothers? That's lovely. Do they live with you?" She asked.
Just then Jewel's face fell slightly "It must be great to have siblings that are possibly still with you. I have an older sister. Her name is Lydia, and she's 19. But see, she's been missing for a while. I haven't seen her in about 5 years." She said, feeling slightly sad.
She looked at Lexi, and smiled again, hoping to hide her pained expression from her "So, you have friends in Brooklyn? Who are they? Maybe I know them." She said.
Jewel liked talking to this girl. She seemed very nice, and very easy to talk to, unlike some people. She was sure that her and this girl would become friends.
(OOC: Okay, got that done. Hope it helps.)

Lexi offered her a shrug, not really sure how to respond to that. Jersey City wasn't really the greatest place to live, but she had loved it there until her world had come crashing down around her forcing her to leave. Not that she was planning on talking about any of that with someone she had just met. "I suppose it was alright," She said slowly, a smile still firmly planted on her face.
Lexi forced herself not to frown when Jewel asked about her brothers, "They live in the boys lodging house with Dodger." She didn't feel the need to explain about Perry's recent death. She wasn't sure she was going to see the girl again so why bother going on about herself. Awkwardly, she patted the girls shoulder when she talked about her sister. "I'm so sorry," And she was. She could sympathize with Jewel's plight because before Perry was killed, he'd been missing for months and she had been frantic with worry.
"I'm sure you'll find her sooner or later," Lexi said hoping that the girl would indeed find her sister. "Do you have any idea what happened? Did she run away?"
When Jewel asked her about her friends in Brooklyn she offered her a wide smile. "Oh, well, just one friend really. His name is Alex, but I guess a lot of people would know him as Avalanche." Lexi didn't know if Jewel knew him, but as far as she had seen most newsies at least knew of him. Lexi pulled her legs up against her chest and wrapped her arms around them.

At the mention of Lexi's brothers living at the Bronx Lodging House. Jewel let out a sigh.
"Ohhhh, that's great. At least you guys live in separate lodging houses. All us girl newsies from Brooklyn share the Brooklyn Lodging House with the boys. Its a damned disaster." She explained.
Jewel nodded when Lexi asked her if Lydia had run away "I believe she escaped the orphanage she was placed in. See, she and I were separated after our parents died. I was 10 and she was 14, and it was a really rough time. I've been a newsie since I was 13 after I made my escape from the orphanage." She explained.
When Lexi also mentioned her friend Alex (aka: Avalanche), Jewel's smile widened a little bit.
"Well, I don't know Avalanche personally, but since we work in the same borough...there's a chance that we have crossed paths." She said.
Jewel then stopped talking long enough to look over at Lexi and smile again "Ya know, Lexi. You are the first person who has ever been nice to me this week. First it was one of the guys from my house, then one of the girls... My life has just been hell. I could only imagine what half of my people think of me. I realize that 2 years ago, I was recruited by the toughest group of Newsies, and sometime I feel like I don't belong there. Have you ever felt that way?" She asked her.
(OOc: Okay, here goes nothing.)

Lexi chuckled slightly when Jewel said that they all lived in the same house. "I can only imagine. I think it's like that in all of the other boroughs as well." She was happy with the fact that the girls had their own house to stay in. It was much cleaner then the boys and although Lexi didn't mind cleaning up after others she didn't want to clean up after them. She knew some of the boys of the Bronx could be pigs.
Lexi quietly listened to Jewel talk about her sister. She knew it was a hard thing to lose someone you love and she was glad she'd never given anyone the opportunity to put her family in an orphanage. She'd heard horrible things about them back in Jersey City and could only imagine what it would be like here. She wasn't sure what she could say to comfort the girl though and was glad when she brightened. "He works at the docks."
A friendly smile stayed on Lexi's face and she couldn't help but feel a bit of pity for the girl when she mentioned that she didn't think she belonged at her lodging house. She couldn't really sympathize though because although she'd felt lonely she'd never felt particularly out of place, she wasn't wired that way. It helped that she didn't lodge in Brooklyn, she knew she wouldn't fit in there. "Not really, sorry. You know Brooklyn isn't the only borough with bunks. We have some free ones at our house."
She knew a lot of Brooklyn newsies took their pride very seriously so she wasn't sure how this girl would react to that, but she felt the need to make the offer. If she was truly unhappy in Brooklyn then what was the harm in moving to the Bronx? She enjoyed most of her time there and she liked all of her fellow lodgers.

Jewel shook her head. She couldn't begin to explain to Lexi what living with the boys was like.
"I'll put it to you this way, Lexi. It is absolutely no picnic living with a bunch of crazy boys who keep me awake all damn night. Plus, I've been having some problems with a guy there as well. But, you probably don't want ta hear about my relationship problems." she said.
When Lexi said her friend worked on the Docks... Jewel nodded her head "Wow, that's nice work right there." she said, rather impressed.
Then Jewel heard something unexpected coming out of Lexi's mouth. She was offering Jewel a chance to get the heck out of Brooklyn. This was her chance. This was her chance to have a change of pace. To be around girls like her who would understand her.
Jewel smiled widely "Oh my God! Are you serious? Are you sure it wil be alright with the others? Just say the word, and I will go back to Brooklyn, and pack my stuff." she told Lexi.
Jewel was relieved. She knew she would find a friend in Lexi...and she was happy about that.
(OOC: So Jewel might leave Brooklyn? Hmmmm. Interesting, huh?)

Lexi laughed, imagining that it would be quite like that to live with a bunch of boys. It had been bad enough when she had lived with her brothers. Her eyebrow rose slightly as Jewel told her about her problems with a boy. "If you need to talk about it, I'll listen."
Since coming to New York Lexi had taken to helping the other girls when she could. That probably had to do with her wanting to make up for her mistakes in Jersey City, but she was proud of herself for growing like this and being able to put others before herself. She'd almost lost that part of herself with Perry's death, but it was slowly coming back making her a stronger person.
Lexi chuckled at Jewel's excitement over moving to the Bronx. She knew the girl would be accepted. People here were friendly and they had accepted her and her brothers easily. "No one will mind," Lexi said as she gently bumped her shoulder into Jewel's. "Like I said, we have the space so if you want a bunk it's yours."

Jewel's head snapped up, and she fixed her eyes on Lexi's. She was glad that this girl was willing to listen to her relationship problems. *Okay here goes nothing* she thought.
"Well, I was fighting these feelings for a while. But a couple of weeks ago, I had a thing for this guy at the Lodging House. The worst of it is...he is impossible. This guy can have any girl he wants. So I know that I stand no chance with him. The guy in question... Is my fearless leader Spot Conlon. I had a lot of feelings for this guy, but I think I'm done with him. I'm done with all those Brooklyn people. I'm not cut out for these people, and it took me 2 friggin' years to figure that out." She said, raising her voice.
Jewel suddenly realized that she was yelling, and she stopped abruptly. "Ohhhh God! I'm sorry for raising my voice, Lexi. Its just that I've just had it up to here with Brooklyn. Who knows? Maybe I will get lucky in the Bronx." She said slyly, smiling even wider this time.
She then bumped Lexi's shoulder back gently "You are hell of a girl, Lexi. You are the first person to offer me a chance to leave my misery behind. So. I completely accept your offer. But only one condition... That you come back to Brooklyn with ne, and help me get my stuff. Is it a deal?" She asked Lexi, holding out her spit-free hand to her.
(Sorry its short. This is so much fun.)

Lexi was slightly taken aback when Jewel started yelling during her explanation of her problems, but she tried to keep an empathetic look on her face. She wasn't really used to complications like that, when she came to New York the last thing she wanted was to fall for someone. The fact that she had was purely an accident and she wasn't even sure if they were anything anymore. They both had their own lives and their paths hadn't crossed much lately.
"I'm sorry, Jewel, that's gotta feel terrible." She was slightly confused though because she had never heard of Spot being with anyone let alone more then one. Then again she didn't make Brooklyn business a priority. "It's probably best that you move on, they're plenty of other guys out there who will treat you right."
She smiled tightly and shrugged her shoulders, "Don't worry about it, you were just caught up in the moment." She chuckled quietly as she leaned down to slip her shoes back onto her nearly numb feet. Jewel was certainly helping her take her mind off of her own life. She took Jewel's hand and nodded, "I can do that." She wouldn't mind the walk although they would have to leave to make it back by nightfall.

Jewel was so excited that she thought she would scream. She had never been so excited in her life. Maybe now, in the Bronx, things would be different for her. She could finally get her life back on track. She could sell her papes, get to know everyone, try to track down her sister...and maybe, just maybe...she could even find herself a little romance.
As she got up from the sand herself, she watched Lexi do the same. "It does feel awful about not accepted by the people who took me in in the first place when I was 13. But, it will all be behind me soon." She sighed.
Jewel nodded "I guess I was caught in the moment there. I tend to do that. I have these mood swings once in a while." She told Lexi.
"Oh yeah please, let's try to get there now so I can get everything I need. Then you can lead me to my new home sweet home. God, Lexi. You are the most fabulous person I have ever met. C'mon sweetie. Let's make tracks.". She said.
Jewel smiled to herself as she felt Lexi's hand slip into hers. Together, they started on the road to Jewel's new life.
(OOC: Okay, got that done. What next?)
