NEW DAY River paced the length of the shore, lost in his thoughts. It had been a hectic few days and he needed this time before he saw Lucky to gather his thoughts. If it wasn't one thing with the borough it was something else. He was truly amazed that he'd never realized exactly how much work Dodger did. The other boys in the Bronx were always coming to him with problems they were having. Whether it was a fight with another boy or a personal issue, they came to him expecting him to know all the answers for them or to solve their problems for them. It was tiring to say the least. He wondered if Lexi had the same problems and then shuddered a bit at what it would be like to not have her around. Not only would he have to deal with the boys issues but then he'd be forced to deal with all of the girls issues as well. That was something he could live his life without. River sighed and ran a hand over the back of his neck. He just needed a bit of time to adjust to his new position. It didn't seem as though he'd have much time. River knew Conlon wasn't happy about the change of leadership in the Bronx, but as far as River was concerned Conlon could jump off the Brooklyn Bridge. He didn't give two shakes about what the 'king' of Brooklyn thought about him. He never had and he supposed that had added to the problems they'd already had in their friendship, if what they'd had could have been called a friendship. He was sure at one point it could, but they were both too stubborn and hot tempered for it to last long.

Miranda followed the line of the beach, her arms wrapped around in the worn coat she often wore as she tried to get warm. The world was changing but that was normal, at least as far as she was concerned. Yet, she was dealing with it better than she had in awhile. Rubbing her arms softly she noticed River standing there, looking lost in thought and seeped in stress. She sighed, as one that rarely helped with that kind of thing she took another breath. Spot was pissed, worse he was annoyed at her too for being with River at all. But she figured there were some things the Brooklyn leader needed to keep his nose out of and this was one of them.
Walking up behind him she stood at his side and watched the water lap against the shore, brushing her hair out of her face as it was caught up by the wind. "A cold one is comin' on,' she replied, glancing over at him. She reached out with her hand and touched his arm, attempting to comfort away the lines on his face. She wasn't the best at this kind of thing, but she was the kind that when you loved, you loved. No ifs ands or buts. "What are you thinkin' about, Chris?'

River saw Miranda stop at his side out of the corner of his eye and a small smile graced his lips as he continued to watch the water. He turned his head when she touched his arm and he gave her a wide smile as he wrapped his arm around her shoulders and pulled her closer. "Seems that way," He replied with a shrug. The cold never really bothered him. Winter was something he'd always enjoyed about New York even with his lack of warm clothes. Everyone knew that the first snow was his favorite part of the year. He always started a snow ball fight with the younger kids.
River shrugged absently at her question. He hated to mention his worries about Conlon to Lucky, so he figured he ought to keep that part of it to himself. He knew Lucky was hearing it enough from Conlon, she didn't need to hear River complain about the leader. "Just never realized how much Dodger did, I guess." He gave her another smile before he continued. "I'm glad that Lexi's around though. Don't know what I'd say or do if the girls came to me with their problems. Got enough to handle with just the guys."

The arm across her shoulders was comforting and she hadn't, ever really thought it would be. Her smile was soft though she opened his coat a bit and slipped in herself, leaning her cheek against his chest. She didn't mind the cold but, she prefer the fall. Winter was when most people died. She knew that too. At almost a foot taller than she was, it was comforting to have his arm around her like that. Her brow raised at his reply.
"Bein' a leader ain't easy, Chris. Why I could never stomach it when Conlon was gone. Least you got them, Lexi knows how to keep the girls from mutiny. Got more a them in the Bronx than we do." We do. She wasn't a member of the Bronx and she probably never would be. She was too much Brooklyn, too rough around the edges but she had to admit she missed him. The distance wasn't easy, though in close quarters all the time like when they were younger? How would that work?
"What problems the boys bellyachin' about anyway? Other than the usual it's cold."

A wide grin spread across his face when she found her way inside his coat to lay her head against his chest. He wrapped his arms around her and held her tightly for a moment. Times like this were the ones he enjoyed most. Even though it was cold out they could still take the time to just enjoy each others company. "I know that," He said somewhat petulantly. He hadn't taken the position on thinking it was going to be a walk in the park, he just hadn't realized exactly how much work it actually entailed. It was a bit irritating actually, but it was something he could get used to.
"Just the usual, getting into fights with the other boys." The part he disliked the most was having to break up those fights. It didn't help that half the time the boys were so in the heat of the moment they didn't even realize that they were trying to deck him and not their original target. He had no problem returning that favor even if it was an accident. "How's everything going in Brooklyn?"

Her lips curved at his tone, relaxing when his arms came around her and held her close. The smile didn't waver, but she snorted at his comment. Fights happened no matter what borough, she missed watching Skitts and Race get into it in Manhattan it was hilarious. Eyes slipping closed she leaned, enjoying this. It had been too long as far as she was concerned. They were growing up and changing, the comment about Brooklyn made her snort.
"It's Brooklyn," she replied, shrugging and knowing if she said too much more Spot might take issue. He did see others as rivals but he wasn't a bad bloke. He and River went at it more because they were both alpha personalities and River was taller. Spot resented that. "Birdie an' Hawk are all... exclusive and it's a bit unnerving but I don't respond to it. Fight takes off and comes back lookin happy. Zeke actually slept in his bunk last night. Talked to Jax a bit. Same ol', Same ol."
