I feel like I'm wandering around aimlessly from board to board...any advice to liven up my time here?

Try setting up a post specifically with one person. Contact one person and ask to post with them. I'm leaving for camp on Friday, and will be gone for two weeks. Aside from that, I don't have any 'hattan characters, and it would be highly unlikely for my characters to interact with Shortstack. But, this is fiction -- we could make it work. I recommend lengthening your posts -- it makes them more interesting and more appealing for someone to respond to. One of the main advantages of roleplaying sites such as this, I believe, is the opportunity to improve one's talent for creative writing. That, in and of itself, is the key to "livening up" your time on this site, as you put it. Be creative, and put effort/time into the writing. I can't speak for others on this board, but personally -- given two scenarios: five minutes to spare (in which to respond to a post) and my turn to post in a thread vs 20- 30 minutes, or more, and my turn to post (it having been a week since my "partner" in the thread made their post)... I would choose the latter scenario.
Also, keep in mind that if you post only one or two lines (as in actual lines-- as how it appears on the screen after you click post) then it means that the person who responds to your post has to do more work -- it takes more effort for that person to create the environment/atmosphere that you (speaking generally, not actually *you* as in the person behind the character of Shortstack), at best, hinted at. It may be for that reason that you (now speaking to you, specifically) have not had many (or any?) replies to your posts.
I hope this clears things up, and good luck!
Sincerely, Shane
