Sitting at lunch in Tibby’s with the rest of the crew, he started saying “itey” repeatedly until it sounded so funny to him he dissolved into laughter and fell off his chair. No one knows where the word came from, or even what it means, but he’s been called Itey ever since. He can usually be found staring into space with a dazed look on his face, mumbling about God only knows what and giggling to himself. Little is known about Andrés’ past except that he was born in Santiago de Cali, Colombia and that he came to New York four years ago. He never really talks about it, just quips back, when asked, in cryptic little phrases that no one can make heads or tails of. When not mumbling nonsense to inanimate objects, or trying to convince strangers that octopi have gardens, Itey can most often be found hanging around his buddies Blink, Swifty and or Skits. They understand him better than the rest and even occasionally partake in his insanity (or “clarity” as he calls it). His first language is Spanish and, though he’s been in America for a little over four years now, he still gets his words mixed up a lot. Whether he does it by accident or on purpose though, has yet to be decided… Many look at Itey and muse, “There's something a little strange about that kid..." and the Manhattan newsies can’t help but chuckle before replying, “You have no idea."
