They were hardly more than children themselves, at least maturity wise, and they destroyed themselves. Collin came home one night to see the carnage, the aftermath, and he wandered the streets alone until he was taken in by the then Brooklyn leader. He had been nearly nine at the time, and he grew up with the newsies, with all the hardships and the fights and borough feuds. It was hard, and many a night he would sneak out to sit on the docks and skip rocks and think about what had happened to him. But the feeling soon faded as he learned the streets, learned to stand up on his own two feet and sell his ass off. He learned real quick what it meant to be a part of Brooklyn, and he grew up with a family that cared for him, and friends who fought at his side. He took over when he was old enough, supporting the Brooklyn newsies and making sure there was always food to eat and a roof over their heads. He was quick, and he was smart; he knew how to make money aside from selling papes, and he was often asked why he stayed a newsie when it was obvious he could go past it. He never answered them, never would, he just worked hard and protected them and brought home a little extra when he could manage it. He handed the reigns over to Spot when he was old enough to handle it, letting the banner pass down because he was getting restless and wanted to explore. He wanted to see the world, get to know other people. But no matter where he's been, his heart and soul are always in Brooklyn with Spot and the kids. He has a lot of pride in that boy, a lot of love for him. He watched him grow, trained him as best he could, and left him Brooklyn. It was the best gift he could give to him, and he was proud to see it all in one piece when he came back from traveling, settling down in Brooklyn and taking over McGinty's Pub.
