"I don't give a fug about visiting hours; lemme go, for Crissake!"
Decker turned sharply and broke free of the nurse who held him. "Young man!" she cried indignantly. Another older nurse grabbed his arm again. "Son, you're hurt," she said. "Come into this room and let us help you..." Decker pulled himself fre again and hurried down the hallway, glancing into every room, searching for a face. He would recognize it, no matter how bad off she was.
He finally found her and skid to a stop in the hallway. "Birdie..." He hurried to the side of her bed. Was she sleeping? Holy crap, she looked awful. Was she alive? He didn't know. He said again, as if she was wide awake. "We got all our kids back. They're all safe. But...we lost a lot. We did." He looked at her, how awful she looked. "Birdie? C'mon. Tell me you a'ready knew that. Get on my case about it, eh? I'll give ya a free pass this time." Silence. "Birdie...?"

She groaned and opened one eye, she had no idea she was even in the hospital but she lifted her head and looked up at him. She was hurting and her head was throbbing still, "Decker?" her voice was still odd and she'd been put on a lot of drugs since they were afraid she'd die in the night. They hadn't expected her to wake up.
"Heh, you found your words again.." she'd stumbled from the battle with a concussion and passed out behind the Queens lodging house found by Prince and Joe. She looked around and winced. "Where the fuck am I?"

A reply, and there was her cheekiness as well. Decker sighed in relief, almost gave her a shove before remembering the state she was in, and said, "Y'almost gave me a heart attack, ya dumb broad. You're in the hospital. Who the hell knows what's the matter, but I sure as hell...I mean..." He paused. Losing his words again. That's what she called it, and it was corny as all hell but he knew it was pretty right to say it. "We kicked their asses good," he said finally.
