Manhattan took the article and read it. Her eyes taking in the names and the flow of the words.
"Bumlets, this is perfect." She blinked briefly before handing it back. "You immortalized the good and not the bad. I think they'd really like it."

He took it back and smiled a bit, yeah it seemed like. He had a knack for knowing how to string words together and make something worth while.
"Yeah? I was thinking about doing this for awhile but Specs and Mabel are right, and I don't want to die on the docks when I'm twenty two.."

New Day Brook was trying to fix things in her mind, Snoddy had been right. She really just need to tell Blink. But she'd already lost a friend, one of her best ones because she couldn't return his feelings. It wasn't fair he didn't need to be second place. She was on her way to the big meeting but she stopped and looked down into the flower cart at all the colors growing and she closed her eyes on a sigh. She had never been a coward why was she so afraid of this?

Daisy had been looking at the flowers in the cart, trying to decide if she dare spend a few pennies on some, just to brighten up her apartment when the girl approached. She appeared to be lost in thought, almost sad and Daisy's heart immediately went out to her, whatever was troubling her, Daisy hoped it wasn't something awful...there was enough awful to go around these days.
"The yellow ones always make me smile," She said softly, reaching for one and holding it out to the girl as a sort of peace offering.

"Oui?" she turned her head towards the irish girl and smiled a little but it was still sad. "I don't think anythin' is gonna make me smile right now, mon che. But thank you.." she turned back to the flowers and just wanted to go back to her brother's apartment and curl up, never to leave. When had she become such a coward.. it was angering her that she was even considering just fading away.

"Whatever it is, it can't be all bad, can it?" Daisy said paying for the flower and tucking it into the girl's arms with a gentle touch. "You look sad," She observed, crossing her arms over her chest and studying the girl for a moment. "And quite like you could use a friend. I'm Daisy and I know you don't know me all that well or anything, but sometimes a stranger's perspective is just the one you need..." There was an offer in her voice, one that the girl could take or leave, Daisy wouldn't push anymore.

She looked over at the girl, "Brook.. my name is Brook.." Actually it couldn't make it any worse to hear someone elses opinion. "I don't know what to do... I.. I messed everything up. One of my best friends wanted ta kiss me and I told him no because I.. I like someone else that wouldn't even notice if I vanished into thin air.. makes me feel special one minute then is off to ... off to flirt with other girls.."

"Ach," Daisy said softly, shaking her head. She didn't have much experience with this sort of thing herself, since Pie there hadn't been much of anyone. But she knew how it could be torn between two choices. "Well, Brook, it sounds to me like you were just being honest with your friend..." Daisy drifted off for a moment, musing over what Brooke had told her.
"Seems to me, that if you had kissed your friend and hadn't meant it, that'd be hurting him as much as you are now. And at least this way you are being honest."

Brook sighed and closed her eyes a moment, it was true she'd been honest. "I didn't want to hurt him, or anyone... I don't want too. He told me to just tell Blink... just tell him already but I don't want to hurt Snoddy... everytime he sees me now he's just going to be hurt.." She knew him well enough for that and she shook her head. "I don't want that, to hurt him.. I never wanted too. He's my friend.. one of my closest ones.."

"Sometimes we have to do things that hurt our friends at the time, but is better for them at the end of the day," Daisy commented, linking her arm easily through Brook's. "If you had kissed Snoddy and hadn't meant it and let him believe you did, it'd be worse for him. Instead he hurts for a little while now, and maybe...maybe he always hurts a little bit when he sees you. But now he'll find someone who will want to kiss him for all the right reasons, and he deserves that, doesn't he?" Daisy said, not really sure if anything she was saying was making a lick of sense.
"As far as Blink...in my experience..." Her mind drifted to Pie for a moment and she smiled sadly at a long ago forgotten memory before blinking and looking back at Brook. "You never know how long you have with someone, if you feel something...you should say it."

Brook looked down at Daisy when she linked their arms and actually smiled as she listened, she was right. It was all true. How long.. she set her head against her new friend's and nodded. She was Cajun, and to them everyone was family.
"Oui, I guess I did the right thing but why do I feel so terrible for it? I.. " she sighed and shook her head. "I'm going to have to hit Blink to make him listen.. because he's not always catching onto things. Snoddy said everyone in Manhattan knew that I cared for him but him... things are going to get messy. Suppose if I don't just say something now I may never have another chance.."

"Would you rather things got messy and know, or go on just caring for him and not knowing?" Daisy asked, smiling over at Brook. "Seems to me if it gets messy and you find out one way or the other how Blink feels, then you can move forward. Instead of being stuck in one place over and over."

How did this blond girl know so much? It made Brook smiles softly to hear someone else echo thoughts she'd been banging around her head. "I'll tell him before we go.. so he knows.." because she wasn't going to go fight and not tell him that she cared for him. "Is it cowardice to be afraid of tellin' him?"

"No, Brook," Daisy said, shaking her head and studying Brook for a moment. "I think they call that nerves." She grinned for a moment as she recalled her own when she'd taken Pie a dessert she had made him after the first time that they met. "And sometimes the nerves are worse when you care."

"Oui, they always have my stomach in knots... and worse is when he is spouting something to some stupid blond that slaughters my accent.." she sighed and put her hand to her forehead, that had been torture. Snoddy... her friend. "Think.. Snoddy will ever speak to me again?"
