Setting Nicholas Nickelby aside he leveled himself up to his feet and smiled right back at her as he moved across the room and tapped the book in her hand. "Tis a good one, love. Can't say that it's me favorite of Dickens.. but it's a good one."
With a florish Dodger tipped off his hat in cavalier style and smiled, "The Artful Dodger, at your service. And a bright lass such as yourself can gather where I garnered the moniker.."

Emily did the same with her copy of Great Expectations as Dodger stood to introduce himself, smiling brightly as he did so. Of course she knew where he got his name and she thought it fit him perfectly. "S'funny. You remind me of the ol' lad 'imself."
She stood and gave Dodger a mock bow. "Emily Braithwaite of the London Braithwaites." She laughed. "F'im not mistaken, you too called London ya 'ome once?"

Dodger pulled himself up and his smile widened as she introduced herself. Honestly he was almost the Artful Dodger incarnate, but he was finding he liked this girl.
"Aye," he said with a grin. "Born and raised, love. I miss old London town more then I can admit. Tis a pleasure to meet you Emily Braithwaite. If you'd like my christian name it's Samual J. Winslow but I don't answer to it." He winked at her then.

"And a special pleasure to meet you as well. Aye," she agreed, "and who wou'nt? Been 'ere 'ardley two years and still aven't adjusted." As it was, Emily hardly went anywhere save the library and she was finding the commute from the Bronx to Brooklyn to be a tiring one to make daily. There just wasn't much else to occupy her time. She wasn't a heavy drinker, though she did have a few drinks every now and then, and she hadn't mingled with many in her neighborhood or anywhere else for that matter. So other than working, she was left only with her imagination and dreaming.
It was very refreshing and reassuring to talk to someone familiar. Not only was he from London, but also enjoyed reading, and Dickens out of all the authors in the world.
She pursed her lips. "Now Samual's a tip-top name, it is, but if Dodge don't fit you as right as rain. Why, I bet your evah bit as cunning. Ah, and this is from knowing you, h'only 'ave ta'king to you a short time."

He was really starting to like this girl, when he'd heard how long she was there he tapped his hat with his fingers for a moment "Been goin on nearly ten years since I've seen the good old streets of London Town.." he missed it, the yelling but there was plenty of dirt in New York and that was the same no matter where he went.
"You'd be right about that Miss Emily," his brows wiggled at her and he laughed flipping his hat back onto his hand and placing it ever so comically on his head. "Clever is what I am good at."

"I can tell." Emily smiled and laughed. She enjoyed Dodger's company. He was, to say the least, a very animated character. "Spose this ci'y's not too bad." She nudged him, playfully. "Least I can say I gained a friend, ay? A Brit nonetheless"

Oh he was that and he was proud of it. He was starting to get fond of this Emily girl, "where ya staying in the fine streets of New York?" he'd chalk it up to being her friend, Dodger was never in want for them actually. This girl was something new and he liked that.

"Got me own flat 'n the Bronx 'round We'ster Avenue." Truth be told, Emily had come to New York as a stowaway on a ship. She took some money from her parents for board once she arrived, but it wasn't enough for her to keep an apartment, which is why she worked. It wasn't as big as her dwellings back in London, but it was comfortable enough for the one person who lived there.

He flashed her a bright smile and held out his hand, "Well Miss Emily I believe I would be a terrible lad if I didn't walk you home. I'm a newsie meself and live at the lodging house in the Bronx.." he was the leader, but he wasn't going to tell her that. Why would he? Dodger was probably the only leader that didn't throw his wait around... well that probably wasn't true but he didn't feel the need to throw that out to people to chew on. If they asked though, that was something different.

Emily hadn't met any newsies personally. Of course on her long walks to Brooklyn she would occasionally buy a paper, not just to catch up on the happenings of New York and the rest of the world, but because she adored reading -- even if it was filled with somewhat boring stories. Not that it mattered to her any. He could have been a traveling organ grinder with a small monkey for all she cared. It wasn't as if her lot in life was considered higher than anyone.
She stood, holding her copy of Great Expectations to her bosom.
"A'right," she said with a smile, "'f you insist."

He held out his elbow for the girl and grinned, hey he was always up for making new friends. "Well come on, love. Lets get on back to the Bronx.."

Emily took hold of his elbow with one hand, while her other held the book, and followed Dodger out of the library.

((New Day))
Muse looked out the window at the street a book in her lap. She didn't actually come to read, she just wanted a quiet place to think and if you had a book in your hand there was a less chance that the librarians would come and shoo you away. Sighing she flipped open the book not even sure what one she really grabbed, taking a glance at it she realized she had grabbed some hokey romance novel and raised an eyebrow. Slouching in the chair she bit her lip and looked out the window again.
She did have a lot on her mind, who would be kidnapping kids in Manhattan and why? She kinda wished someone would come and distract her with all this thinking she was making herself crazy, trying to come up with answers to questions she wasn't even sure were answerable. Damn she was stressed and needed a cigarette, but she was pretty sure the librarians wouldn't like that.

Rex laughed as he and Rio walked towards Brooklyn, just talking freely and cracking jokes and Rio would crack one right back. Rex couldn't do anything to take the grin off his face. They walked past a couple apartment buildings, until they reached the Library.
Rex stood and stared at it for a long moment. It was a huge building, and looked very business like. Certainly not places where Rex usually went, but he thought maybe he could find a book about art or horses to amuse him perhaps, and anyways, it would be fun cuz' Rio was with.
He pushed the doors open, and they walked in, Rex looked up at the bookshelves and bookshelves and shelves of books and whispered to Rio," Where do we go first?"
He glanced around and seeing his sister by the window made a wide grin spread across his face and he all but shouted, "MUSE!"

Rio could not stop laughing. Her face and sides hurt so much, that she had her arm wrapped around her waist. She walked beside Rex, chatting and joking as they made their way to Brooklyn. She looked around, watching the people walk by. It was a good day to be out with their families.
But, she didn't want to think about that because it made her depressed, and she didn't want to be depressed.
They came to a stop outside the library, and Rio glanced at Rex, noticing his hesitation. She wrinkled her nose with a grin. "What? You scared? I promise, books don't bite." she teased, sticking her tongue out at him.
" Where do we go first?"
Rio shrugged, wondering that, herself. She really wanted to go see if they had a copy of Oliver Twist, and had even taken a step to do so, when Rex let out a loud yell.
"MUSE!"
Rio clapped a hand over her mouth to stifle a laugh as she prodded him in the side with her other elbow.
Oh, goodness.
