Daisy loved sitting on the roof of her apartment building at dusk. The way the sun danced across the sky and back lit all the buildings as it sunk lower and lower on the horizon until it disappeared. It made her world seem less empty and she wasn't forced inside her lonely apartment. She knew Peem was probably having dinner with his mum and Davey right about now, their faces bright and cheerful. She thought of trudging over to the Bronx and dropping in on them, knowing they wouldn't mind, but she couldn't bring herself to impose. So instead she came up here to the roof and watched the sunset, humming a tune to herself.

Al was a bit tired, but he didn't feel like sleeping. He wanted to just relax in a peaceful palce, and what better place than the roof top. Step by step he worked his way up the fire escape, but suddenly stopped when he heard a hum. He wasn't quite sure who, but he knew it was a person. A few more steps and he was on the roof, looking at a girl. He walked across the roof, and stood but a few yards from her. He looked out over the city horizon, trying to keep his eyes from staring at the figure near him.

Daisy glanced over at the young man as he approached but didn't stop humming, only pausing to flash him a smile as she shifted into a soft, haunting irish tune which she began to sing softly as she gazed out over the city.

Al looked over the city, trying to take it all in. He had been living in Brooklyn over a month, or so, but it still always amazed him to see so many buildings and land on the horizon. He listened to the irish tune being hummed. He smiled softly and looked to the sky. Quietly he started to hum it with her; it was a song his grandfather used to hum when working. Slowly his inched to the left a bit, getting a little closer to her.

When she heard him join her, her smile widened and she sang a bit louder, her voice clear in the night air as she shifted so she was facing him, the words flowing off her tongue just as she remembered her mother singing them to her. She lifted a hand and tucked a strand of wavy hair behind her ear as she continued until the song had finished, drifting off into silence. "You must be irish," She said softly, her blue eyes dancing.

Al listened to her beautiful voice, and took a deep breath. It brought back some good memories. "Aye, miss." He said softly. "It's been a long time since I've heard that song." He sighed, "I lived there with my grandfather, but I left about 6 years ago." As he spoke to her he kept looking forwards or only turning enough to keep most of the right side of his face hidden from her. It was more of a habit, but it did hide the mark of a mistake.

"It hasn't changed much," Daisy said with a light smile, studying his profile before gazing back out over the city. "Just over close to a year myself." She toyed with some of the material of her skirt as she looked at the pile of buildings and streets that now made up her home. "I miss it sometimes."

Al smiled, thinking of his grandfather still living in that old farm house with the fields and cairns still lining the horizon. It just occured to him that he didn't even know if his grandfather was still alive. "I used to, not as much anymore." Now he could only think of the sea. His real home. "I lived so long on sea; I miss that more than I do Ireland." His smile stayed calm, yet the saddness could be seen in his eyes.

Daisy noted the sadness in his eyes, but didn't address it, choosing instead to focus on their common bond. "Aye, I'm sure it fades with time, but it doesn't make me miss it any less. I miss the wide open space...the hills..."

Al smiled, she sure did miss it there. He didn't know why he didn't; he just liked the sea better, he figured. "The wide open space... the salty smell... blue nomatter where you looked." He spoke, imitating her but speaking of his home on the boat. "That is... until you looked down at the brown wood below you." He laughed a bit. "Oh," He realized he forgot his manners. "On my old ship I was Albatross, in Ireland I was Albert... but in both they called me Al; so pick one to call me." He smiled and reached out a hand for her to shake. He finally turned to face he, revealing his right ear; the lobe had been torn in half, though the wound had long by healed. "And what may I call you, miss?" He asked with a sweet tone.

"Aye, we all have the things we miss from the places we know and love," Daisy acknowledged with a soft smile. She looked down at his hand as it was offered to her, and then back up to his face, noting his ear but her eyes flickering back to find his. "Daisy O'Connor...Daisy will suit just fine."

Al could only nod at her statement. He watched her eyes, almost watching where they looked. When she introduced herself he turned slightly, hiding his right side yet again. "Well, miss Daisy, it's a pleasure to meet you." Al stretched a bit, trying to ease the muscles he had used during work. "What a nice day, this was. It was beautiful on the docks." He stated, trying to start a new conversation.

"Nice to meet you as well," She smiled and settled her arms back on the railing and nodding her agreement. "Aye it was...I can imagine down by the water it was lovely. I didn't get outside much, I was busy at the pub."

Al's smile grew at Daisy's words, but he was thrown off a bit at her final words. "The Pub?" He inquired. "McGinty's?" He hadn't been there yet, but now he had a little more reason to go. "I guess I should drop by some times, then. Must be a nice place." He looked at her with his last sentence.
