Mabel rushed to Jem's side, kneeling beside him to make sure he hadn't been too badly hurt. She helped him into an upright position before becoming completely engrossed in the fight between Prince and the bully.
It was amazing that Prince managed to hold her own against the massive brute. Still, as good a fighter as Prince was, this boy had the advantage of his size.
Mabel glanced about, wondering whether she should run and fetch a policeman or not. If she did, there was a good chance that both Prince and the boy would be punished- perhaps even taken into custody... Mabel didn't really understand the ins and outs of the law.
So, for better or for worse, Mabel moved to pull the two apart so that she, Prince and Jem could make a run for it.
"Prince," Mabel exclaimed, "I think we ought to go- oh!" Mabel took a blow to the lip from a misaimed punch of the boy. Staggering backwards, Mabel huffed and pouted indignantly.
It was then that Mabel took note of the gathering crowd. What was it about a fight that fascinated the masses?
"Prince..." Mabel began in a hushed tone, "I think... maybe we should go." Mabel couldn't tell whether Prince had heard her amidst the many punches. Wiping her bloodied lip on the back of her hand, Mabel moved to pull her sun hat over her head... a sad attempt at concealing her identity from the onlookers.

"Maple!" Jem called out as she fell down near to him. He crawled over to her. "Maple are you okay?" he asked quietly. Now it was very hard for him to say Mable due to the fat lip that was developing after he got hit in the face. "Did he hurt you?"
Prince took a deep breath and stood up. "Look, alright alright, we's dun want no trouble, alright?" Prince looked over at Jem. "C'mon youse two let's get outta heah."
"What cha just gonna walk away? Huh?!" the bully laughed and shook his head. "Fine, get outta heah ya cowards. Little dork, Syrup Girl and Mr. Princess."
Prince froze in her tracks. So, he'd caught their names huh? And he made fun of them. Prince could have shrugged it off had he said anything but Princess... but he called her a Princess. Her hot button, the automatic way to make Prince disreguard all else and go into a savage animal attack. She had her reasons for this, which she never shared with anyone else. She turned around. "What'd ya call me?"
"Princess, oh ya dun like that huh, Princess?"
Jem had heard the bully call her that too. It was beyond unsafe to do that. He knew this. He knew she didn't like being called a Princess. "C'mon Prince, let's go."
"You go..." she said quietly, "I got busniess to attend ta, she said as she glared at the bully.

The bully's face twisted in a satisfied smirk, "C'mon now, haven't ye' had 'nough? Run along with the brat and the girly, eh?"
The air was thick with tension and a hush seemed to fall on the previously enthusiastic crowd, like the calm before a terrific storm.
"Prince!" Mabel cried, the sound of her own voice causing to flinch, "It's not worth it... he's just trying to get a rise out of you!"
But nothing Mabel could say would shake Prince's resolve. What the bully had said had hit a nerve and Prince was not about to let it slide.
Mabel placed a protective hand on Jem's shoulder, not sure whether to get him out of there or stay just in case Prince was badly hurt. Not that Mabel could do much. Her fighting skills were nonexistent and this was clearly not a situation which could be talked out of.
The bully moved to knock Prince's legs out from beneath her and the crowd continued to sqwack and cheer... it didn't take much to impress the masses.
Mabel's anxiety rose- the cops were bound to arrive any moment.

Prince fell to her ground, but kept a clear head enough to reach down and grab the ankle of the bully and pull him down with her. Prince crawled over and pinned his feet to the ground.
The bully tried to turn over, but Prince's grip was too tight, so he finally was able to free one of his feet and kick Prince square in the face, which knocked Prince clean backwards.
The Bully got to his feet laughing as the crowed booed a little, finding that dirty fighting. He turned around to come stand next to Prince, but she had gotten to her feet as well, despite a bleeding lip and dirt all over her face. The bully came face to face with her and she punched him in the stomach. This caused him to double over and she gave him a swift kick right where she knew it would hurt.
The bully dropped his knees and she sent one of her knees into his nose which made him fall backwards onto the ground. "No one..." she said leaning over, "but no one... calls me... a Princess..." her lip was still bleeding, and her eye was black and blue terribly. Her hair was coming out of her hat, and the crowed was whispering about it. She looked over at Mabel and Jem, anger still in her eyes.

Droplets of sweat rolled down her face. Her chest rose and fell as her breaths slowed. The cold surface behind her head reminded her that she was leaning up against a wall. Opening her eyes, she realized that she was in an alleyway. What a crazy dream. She didn't even remember what it was about, but it was enough to make her heart skip a few beats. Pulling her knees protectively toward her chest, she leaned on them and sighed lightly. Her whole body groaned from her wonderful nights sleep. She should have been used to it, sleeping in an alley, but she never thought she would get used to it.
She pushed her self off the wall and took in her surroundings. It had been so late last night, that she didn't even remember where she fell asleep. She wasn't sure where she was. Sighing, Laura made her way out of the alley. Keeping her head low, Laura tried to guide her way through the streets.
She hated mornings. To many people. She would much rather just stay in her alley all day. Unfortunately, Laura's stomach did agree with that notion.
Suddenly, Laura felt an impact against her whole body. She had run into someone. She went sprawling to the ground, guessing the same fate for the opposing party.

Mabel, yet preoccupied with the now finished brawl, was very much taken my surprise when someone walked straight into her and knocked her feet out from under her. She very nearly took Jem out with her.
Mabel was full of adrenaline from the fight she had taken very little part in and was prepared to clock this newcomer in the face. This was a very un-Mabel like urge.
But the girl clearly hadn't run into Mabel intentionally and Mabel wasn't sure she wanted to be in a street brawl ever again.
Mabel wiped the grit from her hands on her dress and staggered to her feet to meet Prince. "Are you okay?" She asked nervously. Prince looked as though she could literally kill the next person who so much as breathed in an offensive manner. "Your hair..." Mabel spoke softly and gestured slightly, glancing over at the now dead silent crowd of onlookers.

As opposed to Mabel's actions Jem jumped up instantly looked over at Laura. "Hey what's the big idea runnin' into us and knockin' us ovah like that?" The nine year old blonde boy looked at the lady with a glare as he folded his arms. "You should watch where you're goin' lady."
"I'm alright," Prince said to Mabel, wiping the blood from her lip on her sleeve. She was concious that her hair was coming out, what did one expect after something so violent? She took the loose strands and replaced them under her hat as though they had never been there at all. "We should probably get outta here b'fore someone calls the bulls."

(Terribly sorry for not posting! A lot going on in recent weeks. I'm actually graduating next week :])
Mabel nodded, rubbing the side of her neck nervously. At that moment, the distinct sound of a policeman's whistle broke through the cacophony.
"Oh, God..." Mabel breathed shakily. Living in a lodging house was a dramatic enough change for Mabel, a couple days in prison were unthinkable.
"Jem," Mabel called pointedly, "I think it's about time we get going, don't you?" She turned to Prince, hoping she'd know what to do.
Before Prince could respond, two distinctly authoritative men burst through the crowd. In a moment of panic, Mabel threw her arm out, pointed in a random direction and yelled, "THEY WENT THAT WAY!"

The majority of the crowed looked at Mabel, and then looked in the direction that she pointed Prince had turned around at the sound of the police and dove to be a face in the crowed. Jem hid behind Mabel's skirt to give her the appearance of being an honest mother, who would never lie to a police officer. The cops looked at Mabel, and Jem nodded furiously. Then they turned and dashed after the invisible people who had never existed at all. Prince then came out of the crowed and grabbed Jem who jumped up onto her shoulders. She then took Mabel's hand and lead her back towards the Queens Lodging house. "C'mon girly, let's move!" she said as the three of them were now running down the street. (No worries on the posting, I haven't been around much either, being so busy. I graduated about a month ago. Congratulations! )

(Thanks! You, too!)
Once they were far enough away from the crowd and the dying sound of the policemen's whistles, Mabel slowed to a walk.
"I," She breathed deeply, "Never thought I'd be running quite so much... very different business than I was expecting, I suppose." Mabel eyed Prince, "You... you're... well, quite the fighter."
In fact, it was downright scary to see how well Prince held her own against that lug. Impressive, but scary.
She then nodded at Jem, "You're quite the fist thrower, too... but, actually," Mabel ran the back of her hand over her forehead, "I should get back to Manhattan... I mean, maybe I should actually meet this Jack Kelly."
When Mabel had moved in, said Manhattan leader Jack Kelly was nowhere to be found. "You know him, right, Prince?' A stupid question, yes, but Mabel, unlike most in the newspaper-selling profession, was most unaware of Mr. Kelly's notoriety.

Prince sat Jem on the ground and smiled at the praise. She'd have a black eye but... she was just glad the Delancy's had come along. Had those two shown up she woulda been in trouble. She couldn't take on both of them... one maybe. Two if she had a weapon and got lucky, and they were tired. She just counted herself lucky for now, and said, "Thanks."
Jem looked proud of the praise too. It made him feel special. He laughed a little when Mabel asked if Prince knew Jack.
Prince herself smiled a little at the question. "Yeah... I know Jack Kelly... real well..."
"They're dating!" Jem said loudly.
"You need to hush," she said taking Jem's hand. "But my guess is the best place to look for him is the lodging house. But if he's busy... I'd hold back and wait. He hates bein' over run with a million people at once. Things quiet down? He'll be more than happy to talk to anyone. He's more personable too," she suggested
"Good luck Maple!" Jem said as he waved.
"Lemme know if ya need anythin' else," Prince said to Mabel. "And good luck. Real nice to meet a down ta earth goil like youse. We need more of them in dis City." She took Jem's hand, and the two of them headed back towards the Queens Lodging house. Jem could be heard retelling the story of the battle, way out of proportion, making Prince out to be a hero in the midst of the fighting. Prince just listened and smiled.

After selling his papes Milo hadn't really had much to do all day so, he had decide that he would just walk around the city and observe people until the evening edition came out. Eventually he made his way over to queens where he spotted a familiar face. "Hi, Snitch" he greeted in his usual quiet voice, walking over to the older newsie.

Snitch was looking for Pockets and just happened to fall upon one of the younger newsies, Milo.
"Hi, Snitch"
"Oh hey Milo" said Snitch, looking for Pockets, Snitch wanted to see Pockets really badly that he just couldn't wait for her to come to Manhattan.
"Mayor's daughter shoot" shouted Snitch, the mayor's daughter was actually just sprained her ankle running from a goon.
