Her eyes softened considerably. Her beautiful little girl had grown into a woman that Adelle could never be, but she was someone to be proud of. "Thank you, though I should not claim any credit. She is who she is despite me.." Despite her coldness, despite the times that she could not bring herself to comfort a crying child. Only when she'd gotten older had she finally started to see what she should be doing, raising a girl. "I'm flattered though, she is a very special girl.." Woman, her daughter was grown nearly. So bright and full of hope.

Mush smiled softly back. Of course... how had he not thought of it before. A parent... a child... the best topic of conversation. "Pardon me ma'am, but... despite you? Surely you raised her..." he said. He was a bit timid in the conversation, only because he was scared he'd lose the trust just as quickly as he gained it. Or something like that.

Something about this boy, Adelle found it nearly indearing. No wonder her little girl had fallen for him, he had a way about him. "I did raise her, but I had help. And she's got five older brothers that had a hand in her raising, as did she have a father.." And a nosey, nosey grandmother.

He smiled a bit broader and nodded. "Of course," he said nodding as well. "She talks about her brothers all the time, and her father... and she adores you too," he said nodding. "You and your family... well you all raised quite the wonderful person... guess I should almost thank you for that," he said chuckling a little and rather timid about saying that as well.

That coaxed what passed for a warm smile from Adelle. "She cares a great deal for you, mon cher." Understated once again, her little baby was over the moon for this boy and honestly she was starting to see why.

He nodded. "That's... nice to hear," he said with a small smile. "And thank you very much. If it means anything I care about her a lot as well... a whole lot. She's... she's real important to me. And I'm sure she's very important to you too," he said nodding. "I'd never let anything happen to her," he shook his head slightly, not eveing wanting to imagine somethingl ike that.

He was so young, they both were. She unfolded her arms and laid a ringed hand on the boys shoulder. "Hold onto that feeling then, for it isn't common. Only happens once.."

He nodded. "Thank you ma'am," he said. He smiled to her and looked back to the vegetable cart. He picked up a couple more things and turned back to her. Ma'am, I'd love to stay and talk, but I'm going to prepare dinner for her tonight. She's been busy in school... and I figured she'd need a good meal. Any suggestions?"

The woman chuckled softly, her hand moved and she nodded. "She'll love whatever you make her, she won't know what to think..." Her little girl had found a diamond in the rough, she'd done right by letting her come back here. Even if she'd had an ulterior motive.

"Thanks ma'am," Mush said with a sincere smile. It was very nice to meet you, and I hope we have the opportunity to meet again some day," he said with a broad smile. "Have a nice day ma'am," Mush said tipping his hat and bowing ever so slightly, before he turned to leave.

She nodded slowly, this boy... bad better be good to her Lanna, or else there would be something more dangerous for the lad then freezing this winter. She tilted her head in regard and took the tomato from the stand, paying for it she headed down the street for her hotel room.

Mike slowly rode his horse down the street, looking out over the crowd lazily and hoping to not see any law breaking-- he didn't feel like dismounting. As he crossed by the vegetable stand he sighed deeply as a familiar voice called out to him. He slowly turned his horse around. "Listen Mr. Brach, I aint got time to keep stopping everytime you got a problem."
The stout man in an apron bristled, pointing dramatically at his tomatoes. "Those street rats! They got another one!" He wagged his finger at the officer, clearly knowing this was the one cop with which he could get away with such disrespect-- Michael just didn't care.
"Sighing he tipped his hat, never even making eye contact as he turned around and continued slowly down the street. "I'll keep my eye out," he said mildly, not intending to up his patrol in any way. Starving kids deserved a little free food once and a while in his estimation, especially at the expense of such annoying jack asses like Mr. Brach.
