Hawkeye leaned against the building behind the vegetable stand. She limply waved her papers back and forth, half-heartedly telling passer-bys, "The Brazilians are coming...Long Island sank...Mr. Pulitzer likes vanilla ice cream..." Shockingly, none of these top-notch headlines helped her get rid of the papers.
Hawkeye sighed and moved her left hand up to rub her eye. She hadn't slept well for the past two nights, and felt like the living dead. She tilted her head back to lean against the wall, and slowly slid down it into a sitting position, her legs pulled up to her chest.
"42nd Street exploded..." she waved the papers about a bit more, "A bank was robbed...people died..." The man in charge of the vegetable stand turned and gave Hawkeye a dirty look, which she returned until he finally went back to arranging cabbages.
She put down the stack of newspapers next to her, then rested her arms on her knees. She closed her eyes and leaned her head back again, muttering to no one in particular, "Why don't you try to come up with a better headline?"

Drake flicked the last of his cigarette to the curb as he turned looking for a newsboy or girl whoever was selling the papers. He heard some half hearted headlines being shoutted out and he made his way over, but the girl leaned against the wall and sat down givig up it seemed on yelling the headlines. He walked up to her, his form blocking the sun and casting a shadow across her face. "Ill take one"he sasid, holding out a penny.

Hawkeye opened her eyes at the sound of the voice, and looked up, not quite able to make out the fellow's face, "Oh, yeah, sure..." She turn to the side and grabbed a newspaper before standing up to hand it to the man, taking the coin from him.
She smiled slightly, "The actual headlines are more interesting than I make them sound, honest," she glanced down at the stack of papers at her feet, and sheepishly grinned back at the customer, "Well, erm...kind of."
There was an unexpected gust of wind, and several of her newspapers scuttled away from the rest. Hawkeye rolled her eyes as she stooped down to collect the runaway papers and return them to her pile, muttering incoherently to herself.

((New Day))
Mush was down on Webster picking up food for him and Lanna to have for dinner that night. He had every intention of buying every last thing that they would need. He wanted to surprise her for dinner! He only hoped he could be fast enough to do it... and had enough money.

Adelle reached over behind the boy and took a tomato in her fingers. They had different kinds of Vegetables down south but most of the time they were the same thing. She was gentle, long fingers twining around it before she set it back on the stand and lifting another. Blue eyes, slender, svelte and blond. She looked like a lady, but her eyes were distant and a bit cold.

Mush turned around and looked at the lady standing behind him. She looked... oddly familiar. Pretty though. He stared at her for a moment... then caught himself, realizing he was staring. "You uh... you need any help picking out vegetable's?" he asked. He was just trying to be helpful.

She raised a brow and looked over at the boy, he was only a boy. Couldn't be any older than her son, Jacob. Shaking her head she took another tomato. "Non, but thank you.." the Frnech mixing with the Louisiana south could only bring you from a few places. And one of them was from the French Quarter of New Orleans.

He stopped when he heard that voice. He'd only heard that voice once before... that unmistakeable accent. Could it be? "Pardon me ma'am..." he said. "I don't mean to be rude, but if I may... are you perhaps related to Alanna Walker?" he asked as though it were a typical question... nothing in particular at all.

A soft smile crossed the woman's eyes, melting the ice if only a little. "Mei Oui, she's my only daughter.." her eyes turned and finally looked at the boy. Her gaze was more fierce then Alanna's, stronger, more sure and even chilly. Lanna had gotten the soft eyes from her father, not her mother. But the shade of blue was the same. "And you are--?"

Mush took half a step back, her gaze was harder than Lanna's. Even frightening. "I'm... Mu- Victor," he said. "Victor Meyers, I'm Alanna's friend..." he said. He figured that Alanna would have told her mother Mush's real name... but then again to be sure. "My friends call me Mush."

Her eyes were sharp and she nodded, "Ah, oui, she spoke of you fondly.." Fondly? Her daughter had gushed, cried when she hadn't been able to return to New York for months because of this boy. Well, truly two boys. She'd cried over someone called Peem as well. Adelle was a hard woman, calculating and yes, frightening. "It is a pleasure to meet you, Victor.." This boy was one of the reasons that her little girl had come back to New York. There were other reasons for Adelle. Someone named Nicholas...

"And you ma'am," he said nodding. "I... If I may, what's your name?" he asked. Alanna had spoke so fondly of her mother. Mush, for some reason, seemed to find it hard to believe that Alanna would think this woman kind or loving. Though Mush had only recently met her. Maybe it was simply a misconception. He'd give it time.

The woman raised a brow a moment before a nearly cool smile crossed her face. "Adelle Garnir Walker... Mrs. Walker, or Madam Walker.. Lady Adelle would suit as well.." she set the tomato she had in her hand back on the stand and folded her arms across her chest, taking in the lad who had claimed, nay, stolen her little girl's heart. She wondered what his intentions where, and she knew her husband would be knee deep sooner rather then later once he caught wind of this. Discovered the boys location.. and then he'd investigate.

"Then it's very nice to meet you Lady Adelle..." that felt weird. He'd stick to formalities, "Mrs. Walker," he said changing it. "You're daughter Alanna is a very beaituful person... and one of the sweetest and kindest people I've ever met," he said honestly. "You raised her extreamely well, and I just wanted ta... compliment you on that."
