Her expression never changed. She just looked at him as if he were speaking another language. If one were to ask she wouldn't be able to say what she was thinking in that moment, whether because it was too many thoughts or none at all, she couldn't say. She looked at the sparkling walls and floors and at the entertained guests. She sighed. He didn't seem to understand what she was saying, or maybe he did. She couldn't be too sure.
"I had better be getting back."

"I had better be getting back."
Reeves nodded slowly. "Yeah, I guess you should, don't want nobody coming to find you or anything. You don't want ta freeze out here neither," Reeves added, smirking slightly, though he felt sad. He could never be with Catherine for more than an hour, in fear they would be caught or be seen.

She had temporarily forgotten about the cold, but his mention of it made her cross her arms and without saying anything else, she turned to walk away.

Reeves watched her walk away and said just loudly for her to hear, "I love you Catherine Woodruff, and nothin's gonna make me stop."
He smiled and turned to go as well, shoving his hands in his pocket, and turning to go. It was dark and chilly out, and he knew Alice would be worried sick.
(Are we gonna bring Henry in at all? I thought this one something kinda big was gonna happen)

(New Day)
Reeves walked down Fifth Avenue slowly, his hands in his pockets. With every step he got closer to the Woodruff mansion, and closer to losing something he really loved. He sighed and kicked a rock, a small frown etching his face. He had cleaned up, washing any dirt off his face and fingers, a nice gray jacket Alice had mended for him that matched his trousers. He clutched the gold chain in his hand that Catherine had given him, after he gave her the music box that one night. He remembered all the memories of her, good and bad. Every smile, every time she turned her eyes on him, now it just made his heart ache.
Reeves shook his head frustratedly, words echoing through his head. He remembered the way he had kissed her mildly on the cheek at the top of the ferris wheel, and she had surprised him by looking into his eyes and kissing him on the lips. Then she laid her head on his shoulder the rest of the ride, and Reeves had felt so good, so right.
"Let them think what they will, it doesn't matter. I love you." "But you listen to me, and listen to me good. You are not right for her. What could you possibly have to offer? It is best that you say your goodbyes."
Reeves sighed wearily. He was doing this for Catherine. He wasn't right for her. He wasn't.
He arrived at the Woodruff manor, and pushed the iron gates open, approaching the large house slowly. He stood on the porch and stood back, straightening his vest and taking off his hat, he knocked on the door, preparing himself for what he was about to do as best as he could.

The door opened to reveal a tall, slender man in a suit. He stood, staring down his nose at the boy at the door.
"May I help you," he asked in a robotic voice. Catherine appeared at the door behind him, expecting company at this time, but when she saw who it was at the door it took all she had to contain her excitement.
"It is for me," she said to the man. "That will be all, Geoffrey." The man grinned and bowed before continuing on his way. Catherine stepped outside and closed the door behind her. She hugged Reeves, excited to see him for the first time in what seemed like ages.
"Seth! What are you doing here, not that I'm complaining. How are you?"

"Seth! What are you doing here, not that I'm complaining. How are you?"
Seth managed a grin when she hugged him, reaching up to stroke one of her curls and tweaked her nose gently. He wouldn't let her see something was bothering him yet. He would enjoy Catherine for as long as he could. He remembered that day at Central Park, when they had thought it would be the last time they would see each other. This was different. This was the last time they'd see each other.
"I was in the neighborhood. Had to stop by to see you...I'm okay. What about you, m' lady? You seem to be happily busy. Routine right? Hmmm...what'd you say it was? Wednesday, Latin?" He grinned his lopsided grin, hoping she wouldn't notice it wasn't going completely to his eyes.

Catherine smiled and nodded. "Afraid so. A lot has been going on here lately with Henry's new position. It seems even more people are always coming and going, but it's so great to see you."
She took his hand and lead him over to the patio swing, taking a seat. If it weren't for the fact that she was so happy to see him, she would have noticed the look in his eyes. All their other meetings had been cut short or didn't end so good. She wanted this time to be different. No bad news.

Reeves nodded, smiling gently. "Yeah, read about it in the paper. I bet your family's real proud of him. He'll make a good businessman I guess."
It felt like bliss when she took his hand and smiled at him like that. It was wonderful, but it was killing him on the inside. He sat down next to her and nodded. "It's good to see you too, Catherine. It seems like forever...I missed ya."

"And I missed you." She smiled softly. She loved the feel of hid touch, of just being there with him again. It made everything all right. But when she looked into his eyes, her smile faded.
"Something's wrong..." She could see it in his eyes and feel it in his hands. She hoped it wasn't anything too bad. She gave an encouraging smile. What ever it was she would try to help him with it.

"Something's wrong..."
Reeves avoided her gaze for a long moment, trying to stop the tightening in his chest. He finally looked at her and nodded.
"I ain't gonna pretend Catherine. I would never lie to you..." He reached out a hand and stroked her soft porcelain cheek. It hurt him so much.
You're not right for her...
Reeves didn't want to say anything yet, he just wanted to hold her hand, hear her say I love you one more time. Anything but tell her goodbye. He took her hand and held it up to his cheek gently, her encouraging smile helped.
"Catherine. I remember the first day I saw you. I remember being so shocked that you actually cared about anything I said, that you could be concerned. And then when I took your hand and told you I'd do anything for you, I meant it with all my heart. I still mean it..."

Her brows furrowed. She was confused. Her smile slowly faded and she bit her bottom lip.
"I know you did. I'd do whatever I could for you, too." She felt something awful in the pit of her stomach. Something was about to happen and she wanted to stall it for as long as she could.

"I know you did. I'd do whatever I could for you, too."
"I know you said you don't care, but this whole entire thing is hurting you more than you show. Catherine, just take a look at me. I have nothing. I would never be able to give you the life you deserve. No matter how much I love you, that's the only thing I have to give you. You go with me Catherine, and you lose everything you know. You'd lose your parents, you'd lose Henry. Everything. I'm t-telling you Catherine, if there would be anyway that I could be something good enough for you, I'd be it in a heartbeat. If there was a way I could give you everything you'll ever need. But I'll never be somebody, Catherine."
Reeves looked down, still holding her hand, knowing he was breaking her heart as well as his own. "Catherine, I don't want you go get hurt, I ain't right for you. I-I...It's what's best."
He choked out the end as well as he could. He didn't believe what he was saying at all. He didn't believe anything. The only thing he believed in was their love. But Henry....society...

She was quiet. Catherine sat there and was quiet the whole time Reeves spoke, looking at him with big eyes. She wasn't expecting that at all. You could knock her over with a feather at that moment. Even after he finished she had nothing to say. There just wasn't much to say. But there was a lot to feel and in the time it had taken Reeves to utter those last words, Catherine's insides had all turned to mush.
I aint right for you.
She shook her head slowly, looking at Reeves like he wasn't right in front of her -- like he was a million miles away. "That's Henry talking..."

"That's Henry talking..."
Reeves just sighed and shrugged. "I ran into Henry the other day. I had been thinking bout ya lately, but what he said really hit hard. I told him...I told him I would tell you goodbye, that I'd never see you again..."
That was one of the hardest things for Reeves to say. It seemed like the right thing, now, those green eyes staring at him, her gentle touch, her caring smile. He was just trying to protect her. She deserved what was best for her, and Reeves couldn't see straight, he was confused as to whether he was doing right or wrong. He hated the fact that the society was spreading it around, probably saying horrible things about Catherine. If this kept up, Reeves would ruin her reputation, and she might just be shunned from her family, like her older brother had.
