"Are you defying me, boy?"
"Yeah, I guess I am because I care about what happens to Catherine. I want to ask you one question sir. Have you taken one good look at your daughter? Was she happy? Please, just honestly. Was Catherine happy?"
Reeves asked, looking the governor squarely in the eye. "I'm gutter trash, just say it, that's what you're thinking, isn't it? Well Catherine doesn't think so. She understands people, more than most people do. She has something special inside her. Something she has to hide from you and everybody else. She has compassion, she's a person. Not some doll molded by reputation and wealth. I keep my word, and I don't plan on breaking your daughter's heart, sir."

He thought about that. Catherine had always seemed happy to him. She always smiled. Could it be he simply never noticed that she was unhappy. He thought he and Catherine had the kind of relationship where she could always come to him for anything. He didn't want her to do anything rash, such as run away to be with this boy. At least if she was home, he could keep an eye on her.
Mr. Woodruff stood. "Then the decision is hers."

Reeves stared down at his shoe, expecting the governor to get mad at him, to forbid him to see his daughter, to send him off to jail or something like that. But when he said those words, Reeves jaw dropped, his heart picking up pace. He smiled to himself, and looked up at the governor calmly, but with sincerity on his face.
"Thank you, Lieutenant Governor, sir." Reeves held out his hand for the governor to shake, watching him with his blue eyes, not sure if he would accept, but wanting to show his respect for the man.
(LOVE THE NEW SIGGY! AWWW! heehee yeah, it looks really good!)

Mr. Woodruff did not want to shake his hand. He wasn't happy with the way things had turned out. If he had his way, Catherine would make company with those more like herself, but alas, he was beat. He never had been able to tell Catherine no. He had raised a strong-willed girl and she would have seen this boy whether he wanted her to or not, so what could he do? At least this way, she would be safe and he didn't have to worry about her developing a grudge for who she was.
He sighed, reluctantly taking the boy's hand and giving it a firm shake. "Now, if you will excuse me, I have to join my family for dinner. I suggest you do the same."
((haha thanks. smalls is real good at this stuff))

"Now, if you will excuse me, I have to join my family for dinner. I suggest you do the same."
Reeves nodded and agreed, "Yes sir," he wished he could say to Catherine, but he had already taken enough chances for one day. He had set out to break a girl's heart, and his own, and had won her heart instead. He didn't feel as triumphant as he thought he would, since he knew her family still didn't accept him. Things were still strained. His only foundation was that Catherine loved him, and that was enough to give Reeves hope. He started towards home, a small smile on his face as he clutched Catherine's locket she had given him and hummed the song her music box played. Things were starting to work out anyways, he was tired of being weary. He knew he was going to go home and give his sister a long deserved grin and kiss on the cheek, and help himself to some supper. Life was like a window pane, sometimes the sun shines through, and sometimes comes the rain, you just gotta bear through it all.
(Aw well guess I ended this post haha, so sweet though, I love Catherine and Reeves, wanna do another one with the two? now that they're really in Love? haha)
