Have a seat, sip the coffee, enjoy the view.

Dez wandered into the coffee shop, his hands in his pockets as he made his way over to a quiet window table. He hadn't gotten a wink of sleep the night before, his mind continuously thinking of one horrible outcome of the price hike after another. He smiled as he was brought a cup of coffee, and dropped a few extra coins in the waitress' hand. Sure he was broke, but he was always generous.

Ada leaned over the counter and ordered her coffee, she was on her lunch break and that made her settle comfortably in her skin but she had to go and get Pete later. She ran her hands threw her hair as she looked around and the only non-occupied seat was the one at a table with a man. She sighed and walked over a half nervous smile on her face. "I don't normally ask this but can I sit with you-- seems it's the only empty chair.."

Luis looked up a bit startled, setting down his coffee and half standing as he put a hand out, gesturing to the open chair. "Of course! I mean, yeah, no, I don't mind.." He sunk back into his chair, his lips forming the thin line of a very awkward smile. When it came to girls, no matter who they were, he was, well, awful.

She tilted her and actually grinned before she sat down, she actually took his out stretched hand and gave it a shake before she sat herself. "I'm Adalina-- I don't mean to intrude really... " Not not really, Ada could be all fire and spit but for the most part she wasn't to bad. Taking a sip from her coffee she sighed, was the first time she'd been off her feet in so long--

He smiled as she shook his hand, her kindness putting him a bit more at ease. "No, you're not intruding, I'm just sitting here alone, It's not like I've.." He paused, remembering the more important response. "I'm Luis.. or Dez, whichever really." Meeting new people, girls namely, always left him too flustered to think of anything coherent to say, so he contended himself with sipping at his coffee and looking out the window.

"Dez? I go by Ada so I understand that-- where are you from?" she lifted a brow and sipped at her coffee, she had a slight accent to her speech it was clear she was from another country and wasn't born in New York. She'd gotten in the habit of asking people where they were from because you never really knew. She actually talked to people at ease. "It's not like you've what? Got anything better to do?" she chuckled. "You a newsie?"

He looked back to her at her question and shrugged. "I'm from here, Queens I mean," He wasn't sure that really answered her question, so he added, "But my parents came here from Cuba.." It wasn't often that Cuban immigrants came all the way up to New York, so Luis was used to people being curious. He laughed at her last remark and nodded when she asked if he was a newsie. "Yeah, I just started a few weeks back actually," He glanced down at his hands (it was a nervous habbit) but quickly looked back up and grinned, facing them up in exposing them in all their ink stained glory. "What gave it away?"

"Cuba huh? Sounds neat--- and Island yeah? I come from Sicily..." She grinned, Ada was a smart alack of a sort but she wasn't to bad. "The look of doom and despair, I've seen it all over Queens and the Bronx, I live there actually.." She liked him, it was like her Uncle had always said about people and their tells. When they were nervous they did things, he'd taught Ada to pay attention after a fashion. "Do any of the leaders know what they're going to do about the price hike? I saw it on the distribution center on my way to work... that's a big jump.." For kids with no money.

He nodded as she spoke, feigning recognition when she mentioned where she was from. Dez never exactly had a geography class, but he certainly didn't want to look stupid in front of her. At her question he shrugged, absently fiddling with his napkin on the table. "I don't know exactly yet, but Prince," he paused, glancing up. "She's our leader in Queens, she was pretty mad.."

She tapped her fingers on her coffee cup and nodded, her hair bobbing as she did. It wasn't in the fashionable updo, it was curled and down around her shoulders though half of it was up. She was about to speak when she coughed, it wasn't a normal sick cough it sounded dry.
Shifting in her seat Ada gave him a half smile, "Well chin up, things will be alright in the end-- it can't be easy but it could always get worse. You have to look on the other side of it--" Not always an optimist she'd spent enough time boosting Pete's moral to know how to at least give it a good shot.

He shrugged, managing a small grin. "Yeah you're right, I mean, look how well it turned out last time, right?" To be honest, Dez was sort of hoping for a strike. He wasn't around for the last one, but it was all anyone talked about for weeks.

She nodded watching him with her own half smile, Ada had a different look about her when she was trying to be helpful, she cleared her throat a little before she shook her head and nodded once more. "It might help you sell more papers once it's over.."

He shrugged, looking down at his coffee. "Well to tell you the truth I don't know how long I'm going to be selling papers. I'm really just doing it for bed until I can find something better and afford my own place.." This wasn't something he thought about often, but it was always in the back of his mind. He liked to actually say it out loud for once, it made it seem all the more possible.

Her fingers continued to tap the coffee cup as she listened to him talk, getting her own place? Well she pretty much lived alone. Her brother technically rented the apartment but she'd been gone for a few years and she didn't know if he was ever coming back.
"At least you have a goal, a lot of people don't really have goals..."
