Sweets leaned against the cold iron gate, waiting for it to open. She usually arrived to the distribution center a bit early, enjoying making it out of the lodging house before all of the boys started waking up and the noise level rose to an uncomfortable level. She really wasn't a morning person.
When it at last opened she wandered in and over to the window for her papers, yawning as she slapped down a quarter, "Fifty papes." After a moment, with no papers appearing before her, she looked up at the grubby man. "I aint got all day here.." All he did was smirk and point up to the pricing board. She raised an eyebrow and lifted her gaze to the sign, her mouth slowly dropping open as she read it. "What is this? Some kin'a joke?" He wasn't laughing.
Snatching her quarter back up and stuffing it securely in her pocket she turned, part of her still convinced this was all just some kind of mistake. She hopped down off the ramp and leaned against some crates, hoping the others would arrive soon.
((I couldn't remember, is Weasel still around for us?))

Reid was unsure what to do when he was told that they wanted 30 cents for his normal fifty papers. He'd already sold a couple of times and he'd only paid a quarter like in Jersey City. He turned to Lexi, who looked perplexed and angry. Of course, everyone in Jersey City heard about the strike and that the papes had gone up ten cents a hundred in New York but it hadn't effected Jersey City. Reid hadn't been expecting it to happen again especially so soon after they moved there. The guy behind the counter asked him if he was getting his papes or not and he shook his head stepping away from the counter to talk with his sister about this. They wouldn't be able to afford this and feed all three of them.

Sweets watched as the Bronx boy as he approached the counter, glad to see him walk away without any papers. She'd never seen this guy around before, but she never really kept up with Bronx kids. Walking over to them she sighed sympathetically. "You know if dodgah's on his way?"

Reid glanced at Sweets, unsure of who the girl was but gave her a shrug. "I don't really know, sorry. We're just trying to figure out what to do about this, but we ain't got the money to be sparing for the raise. I'm assuming no one else here does either." Reid glanced around at the other newsies milling about, looking none to happy about the raise in price either.

Sweets nodded, glancing around at the various kids all wondering what to do. "Nah we don't..." She sighed, remembering what happened last time. "But I don' think we can afford a strike eithah." As fun as it was to stick it to the man, Sweets wasn't too keen on ever having to miss that many meals again.

Reid nodded, "I know we can't afford it either." If it came down to it, he was afraid that his sister might go back to her gambling ways to try to earn some extra money for at least him and Perry to be able to eat. He didn't want that to happen and he hoped she was smarter than that. He'd work in the factory if he needed to.

She sighed, but attempted a weak smile. "Well don' worry, Jack'll know what ta do." Sweets didn't doubt for a second that the Manhattan leader would make everything right, she just hoped he would do so soon.

Reid shrugged, he knew who Jack Kelly was because of the strike from before. "Yeah I'm sure he will." He wasn't too sure, but he knew he'd have to find a different job if the price wasn't reduced back to what it had been. "I'm Reid by way, what's your name?"

Manhattan walked into the distribution center and went up to Sweets not really paying attention to anything around her as always. Looking up at the sky she glanced over at the sign and did a double take. "Shit" slapping her hand over her mouth her eyes got big and cheeks got red. Clearing her throat she shot an apologetic look at those there. "Anyone mention this...ah...situation ta Jack yet??" Manhattan said mainly looking at Sweets. "Cuz i got dese great legs and dey aint doin nothin as of five seconds ago." she muttered, shooting a dirty look at the man smirking at the counter and grimaced knowing someone had to go get Jack, he wasnt much of an early riser.

Reid watched intently as Manhattan walked up, he paid attention to everyone around him. He wasn't one who liked to be caught by surprise. "As far as I know he hasn't been told yet." Reid wasn't really sure what to do, he was half tempted to tell his sister he was taking Perry back to Jersey City where he knew they could survive without the threat of the raise in price for the papers. Of course he would never do that to his sister because she would be devastated and he doubted it would do any good, if the price didn't decrease here pretty soon he knew it would increase in Jersey City. It was just like those hoity-toity paper men to raise the prices if it succeeded somewhere without any repercussion.

Lanna came into the distrebution center hoping to find Dodger or someone to help her find Peem when her jaw dropped, "My stars," she exclaimed with big blue eyed wonder staring up at the price.
She scanned around and spotted Sweets before coming over and touching her arm. Even though Lanna wasn't a newsie, anymore at least, that was still going to hurt a lot of people.
"Sweets--" Southern, blond and soft she glanced up at the price sign once more before finally realizing Reid was here. She nodded her head to him and smiled, "Sorry I didn't see you there, mon ami.." She inclined her head like any sweet girl would but kept near Sweets. "This doesn't look good, mon chere.."

Reid gave her a smile and nodded, "I'll agree with you there. Apparently everyone's thinking the same thing." He glanced around taking in all the newsies who were just standing there with glum looks on their faces.

She looked up at him and blinked, her cheeks flamed when she finally got a good look at him. He was gorgeous. That wasn't fair was it? To think that a man was amazing to look at when she was with another boy? But this man-- wasn't really a boy was he. No. "Oui, very--" she forgot how to speak and looked at Sweets for help.

Reids smile widened just a bit when she started speaking a language he wasn't familiar with. He'd never heard anyone speak French before and it came off sounding beautiful, much like the girl speaking it. "I'm Reid," He said with a smile, thinking that he may as well introduce himself to keep the conversation going. He had a feeling he was going to enjoy talking with her. "What's your name?"
