It's crowded and dank, hopefully someone is coming to save you!

Golly moved into the room placing the poor boy onto a bunk and undoing the handcuffs. The Sergent pushed Sweets in and closed the door behind her, leaving Golly to get them settled while he started up the paper work down the hall. His chin throbbed, though he hadn't seen it he could tell it was swelling up.
Once he finished with the boy he walked over to Sweets and frowned down at her hoping she wouldn't start to cry again. After a little hesitation he gestured to the cuffs, "Mind if I get those off for ya?" His voice was quiet, not sure how to go about explaining things to her.

Sweets glanced up at him from where she had quickly sat on a dirty bunk. She attempted to speak, to apologize, to say anything, but no words came. Lowering her gaze to her lap she just shook her head in reply, her wrists already getting raw from the tight cuffs.

He sighed and fumbled with the key trying to get the metal cuffs off with the least amount of pain possible. Once he unlocked them both and clipped them onto his belt. After an awkward silence he finally started to speak, hunching over trying to look at her face "You hurt? I mean your cheek..." He had no idea how to broach the silence let alone be comforting - the affection in his life was limited to his stupid horse. "Sweets this ain't how...its..I'm sorry." He finally spit out an apology followed by an overwhelmed sigh.

At the mention of her cheek she lightly touched it with her now free hand. She couldn't stand the uncomfortable silence and was glad when he spoke again. She peeked up at him from under her hat, a sad look in her eyes. "Nah it's all my fault, if I woulda jist. . . I mean I jist thought. . ." She sighed, unsure what she was trying to say. "Well I'm sorry for gettin' you inta this mess. Now you'll prolly get fired an' it's all my fault." She glanced around her, taking in the dank surroundings. "Heh, cozy aint it?" She attempted a small laugh but with her efforts to keep from letting herself cry it ended as more of a meek sob.

"Don't worry 'bout me or my job, kid" Golly said quickly, that wasn't her problem and there was no need for her to carry any guilt about it, "I hate the bloody thing anyways..."
He took off his hat so he could grab at his hair as he thought, a nervous tick of his, and took a seat on another one of the dingy beds. "The kid.." he referred quietly to the boy lying a few bunks away, "I was jus' doin' my job - Sergent clocked him leavin' me to deal with it. You jus' showed up at the wrong time..." He shrugged and finally made eye contact with her, his face going stern. "Ain't any reason for you not to trust me - I don't want you to doubt that, ever." It was funny how important this girl's, at least 10 years junior, trust was to him. For some reason it seemed to justify what he was doing with his life, that maybe there was someone in the city he was helping. He finally looked away with another heavy sigh, "You don't belong 'ere.. I'll get ya out somehow...promise"

She gave a small nod when he told her what had really happened, she didn't need any convincing after what happened now. "Course I trust ya, how could I not aftah all this?" she gave him a small lopsided grin, though it was short lived. "No, don't you worry abou' me," she said, shaking her head. " I don't want you helpin' me any more, it always seems ta get you into trouble." She sighed, returning her gaze to her lap. "It jist aint worth it."

"What 'ave I got ta loose at this point?" It was his turn to smile lightly, he knew he was in deep - even if he kept the job he'd probably be reassigned as a guard or something equally as mundane. He got back to his feet and paced over to the window glancing out at the courtyard below. "Don't be cuttin' yourself short, lass, your worth gettin' out of here - ya add another honest face to this gloomy city" He sighed and checked his pocket watch knowing he'd be expect to report in soon.

She sighed, laying back on the hard bed with her legs still over the edge. "I dunno 'bout that, but thanks for sayin' it anyways."
She leaned up on one arm, cocking her head thoughtfully. "Ya know, you're the only honest coppah in the city..." She paused as the light from the barred window lit his face. "Oh!" She jumped up and ran over to him, her wide eyes full of concern. "Are you alrigh'?" His jaw was black and blue, swelling up from where he had been struck. She reached out her small ink stained hand, lightly moving his chin into the light so she could get a better look. "I'm so sorry," she said weakly, her shoulders slumping as she slowly moved back, leaning on the window. "Go on then.. ya need some ice."
Along with feeling horrible for being the reason he was hurt, part of her was going crazy with not being able to tend to it herself. Living with a dozen boys she'd become quite accustom to caring for such battle wounds, and unlike this those hardly had anything to do with her.

Golly managed to laugh lightly still looking out the window, "Honest to you, lass, disillusioned and ignorant to every--" He was interrupted by her sudden display of concern for his face. He winced a little when she touched him, not so much out of pain but because he wasn't accustomed to being touched in general. "That bad, eh?" he hadn't actually seen how heinous it was, "To be honest it bloody hurts but I'll live" He gave her a weak smile and a nod going back toward the hall door.
He stopped at the threshold fiddling with his keys in one hand. "Time to go to the lions den" it was funny how in some ways he was loosening up in this stressful environment, "I'll see what I might be able to do for you, Sweets....so jus'..jus' sit tight for a while.....an' I promise i'll get some ice" He let out a heavy sigh and unlocked to door so he could go speak with the Sergeant. He didn't know what he was about to walk into other than the fact that no matter what it was going to be depressing - however right now his mind was working on how to get Sweets out, his problems were on the back-burner.

She sighed, giving him a small grin as he left. "Sit tight?" Her grin broadened, turning into a genuine smile. "What else can I do in heah huh?" She was feeling much better about the whole thing, his comforting words making her believe she could be out of here by tomorrow.

Golly didn't return until the next evening. He had met the with the Sergent and gotten on hell of a tongue lashing not to mention and suspension followed by a probationary period. Things could be worse though, at least he was still employed after the punishment so he wouldn't be slapped with an eviction.
He slid into the room, clad in basic middle-class attire topped off with ratty brown cap. His face was pretty ugly to say the least, the dark bruise covering on side of his jaw. Closing the door behind him he surveyed the room, looking for Sweets. "Lass, ya still in 'ere?" he asked quietly, peering into the darkened bunks.

Sweets had sat up as s0on as she heard the door click, and when she heard his voice she jumped down from the bunk and made her way over, slowing down as she approached him with a questioning look on her face. "Course I'm still heah but. . ." She could hardly recognize him without the uniform, and immediately thought the worst.
She was about to make some grand statement about how the police force was full of a bunch of low life jerks who fired the only good man they ever had, but decided against it when she saw his jaw. She moved closer, examining it again and giving a small 'tsk' with her tongue. "Aw that still looks awful.. Did ya put ice on it like I told ya?"

"Thanks, lass..." Golly murmured but his lips were curled into a faint smile, "Yer jus' a regular mother hen.. an' yes, this city's filled with snow so it wasn't a problem." He shook his head and pulled open the satchel that was resting on his hip. A moment later he produced an apple and handed it to her, assuming they didn't give them much if anything to eat. Snyder liked to cut expenses that he deemed 'unnecessary'. Golly walked away from her and found the other boy sleeping in one of the bunks. He left an apple for him.
Coming back to Sweets his face had gone back to its regular sullen frown. "They treat you decent in 'ere?" He asked, hoping more than anything that they hadn't even bothered with her.

Sweets tried not to look too excited about the apple, but she hadn't eaten since the day before and nearly drooled at the sight of it. "Thanks," she tried to say casually, walking over and putting the apple up on her bed to greedily devour after he left.
She gave him a shrug as she looked around the room. "It aint so bad, 'sides from Snyder's 'inspections' nothing else seems ta happen 'round heah... He did take all our money though." She crossed her arms as she spoke of it, an angry look on her face as she mumbled, "whata joik.."
"But what abou' you?" she asked, gesturing at last to his outfit. "You didn' get fired did ya?"
