Gwennie let out a small giggle at Fighter's comment about Marvin closing his eyes sometimes."He'll try but he's jus' a doggie. He don't always know when he should" she giggled a bit more and looked down at the piece of floor where she imagined Marvin would be. "Dis mornin' he forgot ta shut 'is eyes an' he saw her with her shirt off" she pointed over at another mean-looking girl across the room. "He says he t'inks doggie girls are way prettiah" she whispered in Fighter's ear, smiling mischievously.
Gwennie nodded vigorously as Fighter suggested she stay away from the cops from now on and placed her on the bed to hold it for her while she went off to take care of something. Gwennie didn't really pay much attention to where she went. she was too wrapped up in her own thoughts at the moment to really notice what was going on a few bunks away. She wanted to believe that fighter was right and that it had only been an accident that she had been brought to the police station but something inside her told her that it had been much more than that. She wasn't mad at Fighter for lying to her about it. She knew it was just one of those things grownups tend to do to kids because they think it's best for them. But she was extra upset at the policeman that took her in for tricking her. That lie had definitely not been for her own good and she knew he hadn't wanted it to be. In general, she hated being lied to. She would've rather he had just thrown her in the jail cart thing and thrown away the key instead of making her think he was only trying to help. at least then he would've been an honest jerk.
Suddenly, she was snapped out of her contemplations by the sound of a fight starting over near that mean Berenice's bunk. Her head snapped up and she was surprised to see that Fighter and Berenice were on the floor, punching the heck out of each other. Gwennie's eyes grew wide and she almost hopped off of the bunk to try and stop the fight but then she remembered her promise to Fighter to watch it until she got back and she decdided to stay put. After all, she couldn't break a promise. So, she just sat there clenching the bedsheets tightly in her hands and staringin anticipation as the two girls fought. Finally, Fighter got the better of mean old Berenice and made her way back over to the bunk where Gwennie sat, money in hand.
Gwennie looked at the money in awe as Fighter asked her if any of it was hers. "Only 'bout a dollah of it" she muttered, staring up at the older girl, wideyed and not quite sure of what to make of the situation. She was glad to have her money back and proud that Fighter had won it back for her. But she also felt sad that there had been a whole, big fight just over her. she looked at Fighter's swollen eye and several cuts and bruises and felt a pang of guilt ring through her. She even felt a little bad for Berenice. After all, she probably wasn't all bad and if she was, she probably had a reason for it. Letting go of the bed sheets which were still tightly clenched in hger hands, she pulled out the dollar's worthy of change that Berenice had taken from her. "I t'ink da rest b'longs ta her." she said, pointing back over at Berenice. "We oughta give it back" she whispered, looking up at Figher pleadingly. "I don' wanna be as bad as her an' if I take her money I will be"
