Sloane had left the mill briskly as soon as the dismissal bell had rung. Eloise had ran after her, trying to catch up. Sloane had quickly told her to go home, and to tell their Mother she would be home soon. Eloise frowned and gave her a suspicious look, but complied and trudged towards their Brooklyn apartment.
"And don't Dawdle!" Sloane had called after her sister as an after thought. Eloise turned around and shot her a pout, before continuing on her way with a huff. Sloane only shook her head with a slight smile, and padded her apron, where she hid her small pay, two dollars that she had been saving for a long time. She knew it was shameful, but she didn't want to just hand over her pay to her parents, she wanted to for once get something for herself. She made her way away from Queens, and crossed the boundary into the Bronx.
She stepped into the bookstore, and nodded to the shop mistress who stood at the counter. She went to the book shelves, and started to scan. She had to find a good book that she could treasure, and one she wouldn't tire of. She loved to read, but didn't really have many books to call her own. Well, she was going to get herself a nice little book to read.

((New))
It was a good day and Robert was feeling really good. Talking to Evangeline a while ago had really brightened him up. Then, of course, talking to Sophia had darkened it back again. But that was no matter. There were people like her all over -- rich and poor. He wasn't as kind as his sister nor as conniving as his brother, so he just had to deal with things the best he could.
He walked into the bookstore, not really sure if it was Evie's or not. There weren't many book stores in the neighborhood and fewer nice ones, so he figured he'd just go to all of them until he found the one she owned. Walking into the store and up to the front, he knocked loudly on the counter -- his attempt to get the attention of anyone in the back.
