She hugged the woman back and her smile was bright, getting dinner.. "I don't want to intrude, Mrs. Hendry... " But she needed that hug so badly, she was so home sick. Her eyes closed and she allowed that feeling of having a mother sweep over her. She wanted to go home. "Sorry I haven't come by.."

"Ach...ye be not liking my food?" She laughed and put the girl down, rubbing her back. "Are you coming by because something is wrong, love?" She brushed a thumb over the other's cheek. "Ye can be telling me, love."

She felt like such a terrible person, "I think I need to go home..." The words almost trembled, Moira was where she needed to be and Dodger would be fine on his own brooding or no. But she--- the Bayou was calling.

Mrs. Hendry raised her eyebrows and smiled. "Ach...well I be understanding that. Must be hard, not having family here no?" She brushed her fingers through Alanna's curls. "Now are you leaving our little city for good, or will you be back sometime, love?" She fully understood; Alanna has no reason to feel bad.

She nodded and hugged the woman, her brow furrowed, when she asked if Alanna would be back she honestly didn't have an answer right away, "I-- I don't know yet.... I hope to come back in the fall but--" she looked so lost. "I don't know what to do anymore--" She was comforted to know that someone understood she wasn't sure Mush would.

<<new day>>
Peem opened the door, flashing Chance a quick smile before going over and hugging his mother quickly. "Hey mum, I brought home a new friend."
Mrs. Hendry looked over at Chance, smiling brightly at him. She was much like her son; she didn't judge, and she trusted her son to be safe with whome he tried to help. "Ach, well any friend of Peem is welcome here. Lucky you, I made enough haggis for leftovers." She poured a cup of coffee, offering it to Chance before turning back to Peem. "Davey will be home in thirty minutes or so."

Chance followed Peem inside, overwhelmed at the instant warm feeling of family that nearly swallowed him whole as soon as he stepped over the threshold. He smiled at the woman who bustled over with a cup of coffee, which he accepted with a slight incline of his head, sweeping his hat off of his head. "Thank you ma'am." He glanced back at Peem for a moment, still wondering if his fateful meeting with the other man had been real, then took a grateful sip of the coffee.

Mrs. Hendry laughed, clapping him on the back. "Ach, manners. I haven't heard those in a while!" She tapped his mug. "You finish that up, and I'll start drawing you a bath. You smell like you've been sleeping with Peem's dirty laundry!" She was just teasing gently, not passing judgement. She pressed a kiss to Peem's forehead before disappearing into the tiny bathroom.
Peem grinned and sat down on the worn couch. "Well, that's my mum. Best woman I've ever known."

Chance felt a blush touch his cheeks as she commented on his odor, but couldn't help but smile at her in response. There was something about the Hendry's, he was learning, they didn't judge, merely gave of who they were. He watched her go with wide eyes before turning to look at Peem. "She's astounding," Chance commented with a soft smile, thinking how he wished his own mother might have shown him the affection Peem's mother had given him. "Thank you again, Peem. This is more than I have any right to expect."

Peem raised an eyebrow, laughing. "Any right? You're a human being, Chance. A damn good artist, and a nice guy. I think you deserive everything anyone else gets--and well damn it, you're getting it." He shrugged, blushing. "And you can't convince me of anything else. Just don't ask me what Haggis is. It's a scottish dish that my family loves but.." He smirked. "...it tastes better when you don't know whats in it."

Chance laughed, reaching over to set a large hand on Peem's shoulder, squeezing gently. "I'm not arguing, I just...a little unexpected is all." He smiled and allowed his hand to linger, the coffee cup warming his fingers and reminding him of what it was like to have a home. "Peem, I haven't eaten anything homemade in..." Chance paused as he realized he couldn't remember the last time and looked away, frowning slightly. "...a very long time."

Peem grinned and elbowed him gently. "See, be careful what you wish for, Chance. You'll end up sick from your first homegrown Hendry meal." He hadn't felt this at ease with a guy in a long time. It wasn't by accident that most of his close friends were females.
Mrs. Hendry peaked her head into the tiny living room/kitchen, smiling. "Your bath is ready Chance. I put out some of Peems' clothing. If you don't mind, I'll take yours with me when I go to work tomorrow--I work at a launderette."

Chance grinned down at Peem, trying to envision a meal that wouldn't taste good after weeks of barely scraping by and coming up empty. "Ah...but at least I'd be sick with a belly full of food," He teased back, resisting the urge to ruffle Peem's hair...there was really no need for that extra touch.
Glancing up as Peem's mom peeked into the room and informed him of his bath he tried to process her request. "I..." Chance fumbled on his thoughts, no matter what Peem might have said, the Hendry's continued kindness continually catching him off guard. "That's real nice of you ma'am. I suppose it would be best I didn't wander around smelling like Peem's dirty laundry." He quirked a smile in the woman's direction, glancing over his shoulder at Peem before wandering in the direction of the bathroom.

While Chance was in the bathroom, Peem smiled and went and helped his mom. "Well, what do you think?"
"You always know how to drag them in.." Mrs. Hendry laughed, handing Peem some bread to cut up. "He seems like a good boy. You like him."
Peem blushed and worked at cutting the bread, shrugging. "I mean, I need a guy friend, right? I uhh...sure." He laughed. "You are the best mum around. Do you think it would be okay if he slept on the couch for a bit?"
Mrs. Hendry nodded, kissing Peem's brow. "Sure. Get him to help with he chores." They'd get by somehow. She trusted Peem to handle things.

Inside the bathroom, Chance was relishing in the feel of warm water against his skin and the smell of soap seeping into his pores. It was a luxury he had not had in a great while, and one he planned to relish. If his time with the Hendry's only lasted this one night, he'd be forever grateful for this bit of kindness he had been shown.
Washing his hair he scrubbed himself clean and did his best to make use of the bath before stepping out and drying himself with the provided towel. He pulled on Peem's clothes, not even caring that they were a bit tight on his much longer frame. Instead he breathed deeply of the clean fabric and thought of how Peem wearing the clothes and it sent a smile scattering across his features...that people could be so thoughtful, to share clothes off their very back. With a sigh he opened the door and wandered back out into the other room, his used towel draped over his arm. "Wasn't sure what I should do with this..."
