Peem moved over, blushign as he looked at Chance. He had been a flicker of the man he saw now--he was attractive, unnervingly so. A lump rose in his throat, as he grabbed the towel. "I'll take care of it." He ducked into the small bedroom he shared with his brother. Mrs. Hendry was about to say something, when Davey burst into the room, grinning. "Hey mum! Oh oh! They taught us how gravity works today!" He tossed his bags onto the couch, coming to a hault in front of Chance. "Oooo...hi! Are you friends with Peem? I bet you are. You're wearing his pants!"

Chance opened his mouth to say something to Peem as the other man snatched the towel out of his hands, but didn't get the chance before he had disappeared and a bustling ball of energy came barreling into the room. Noise followed the little boy across the room until he practically skidded to a stop in front of Chance, looking up at him with wide eyes. Grinning, Chance squatted down in front of the little boy, trying to get more on eye level with him. "I sure am, met your brother a few days ago. My name is Chance, you must be Davey."

Davey grinned. "Yep I am! Isn't Peem the bestest? My brother is always bringing me books and reading to me." He puffed out his chest. "Except that I read to him now. I'm a really good reader. I like doing that. One day I'm going to be a big ole reader. I think you can get a degree in reading. That's what I'm going to do."
Mrs. Hendry laughed. "Watch out, Chance, our little lad will talk your ear off if you let him." She was finishing off the food, putting it on the table.
Peem came out, grabbing his brother by the waist, blowing on his stomach. "Ach!! Not saying hello to me first? Punishment! Rasberries!" He laughed as his brother squirmed and squealed, twisting as his brother tickled and blew on his stomach.

"Yeah...Peem is pretty amazing," Chance agree, though his words were nearly drowned out by Davey's chattering voice. He tried to folow the trail of conversation as the little boy nearly bounced around him and he laughed over at Mrs. Hendry, shaking his head slightly.
"He reminds me of my nephew. He'd be about....8 now and bright eyed as this one. Though he didn't like to read near as much," He winked down at Davey, pushing himself back up into a standing position as Peem appeared again, whisking his brother into a hug. Watching the picture, Chance felt his fingers itching to draw, to sketch out the brotherly love that he'd never be able to fully capture on paper.

Peem smiled and put Davey down, ruffling his hair. "Hurry and change clothing so we can eat. It's Haggis. And I bought you some fruit."
Davey grinned hugging his brother. "Oh gee! An orange maybe?! Haggis! Yes!" He laughed and ran into the bathroom to wash his face.
Peem turned back to Chance. "Well, the reading is all my fault. Well..its mum's fault. It's how the Hendry's got smart." He winked, and put a hand on Chance's lower back. "Come on, sit down and have some bread. We'll start once the little brat finishes washing his face."

"Reading is hardly a bad thing," Chance corrected, feeling Peem's hand press against his lower back and guide him towards the table. His stomach growled as he saw the food spread out on the table and felt himself being guided into a chair. On instinct, he grabbed Peem's hand and squeezed it gently, words of gratitude on the tip of his tongue, but not able to escape, he relied on his eyes to say what was caught behind the lump in his throat.

Peem grinned and was going to say something, before Mrs. Hendry cuffed him on the back of his head. "Ach, if you make Chance cry love, I'm giving him the rest of your food." She smiled and grabbed Chance's plate, piling a large bit of Haggis on the plate, with some bread and vegs. "Go ahead and start eating. Don't wait on us." She started to make up Davey and her's plate, and Peem made his own. This was good; definitely felt right.

Chance ducked his head, trying to gather his thoughts before lifting his eyes to smile a thank you at Mrs. Hendry when she handed him a plate with more food then he'd eaten in a single meal in years. "Thank you ma'am..." He said softly, setting the plate down in front of him and waiting for Peem to join him, not wanting to seem overly eager.

Peem nudged him, leaning over. "Just eat. You want it, just eat it. We don't have that many manners here." He ruffled his hair, standing up to grab Davey.
A few moments later he came back with Davey under his arm, which was a feat since Peem was short, and Davey was clearly going to be taller than him. "There we go." He laughed and put Davey in his chair, who grinned and told his mother thank you, before digging into his food.
Mrs. Hendry smiled. "God always choses to bless us. I'm a lucky woman." She ruffled Davey's hair, as Peem sat down to eat as well.

Chance flushed red at the fact that his hunger read so freely on his face, but dug into the food, savoring every bite. He watched the family scene before him, felt his insides warm and his heart swell at being included even a little. He cast his eyes over in Peem's direction, studied the man for a moment before looking in Mrs. Hendry's direction, "I don't have much to offer in return for your kindness, ma'am...but if you'd allow it, I'd like to draw your family."

Davey was the first to speak, grinning. "Oh you do art!! I try art but I'm not very good at it. I like to write more."
Mrs. Hendry laughed, nodding over her food. "Really you dont need to offer us anything, Chance. But if you'd like to draw our motely crew, you can. But not tonight, hmm?" She looked over to Peem, nodding.
Peem flashed a grin at his mother, before turning to Chance taking a bite. "Oh...mum and I talked. You can stay here for a little bit if you want."

"I do, do art. Maybe I'll show you some of my stuff after we eat...if it's okay with your mum," Chance told Davey, flashing the little boy a smile before turning to look at the other two members of the Hendry family. Dinner and a bath would have been plenty, more than most would have offered he knew, but this...this went above and beyond and he didn't quite know how to respond. "I...I don't quite know what to say," He admitted, biting his lip as he turned his dark blue eyes onto Peem and wandered what twist of fate might have brought their paths to cross.

Davey grinned, looking at his mom. "Please, please?" Mrs. Hendry laughed and nodded. "OF course, as long as there aren't any naked people, of course, Chance." She winked good naturedly.
Peem reached over and squeezed Chance's arm. "Well don't worry about saying anything and just eat, hmm? Our couch isn't comfortable, anyways." He winked, going back to his haggis.

"No ma'am," Chance said with a slight smile, exchanging a look with Peem. "Mostly just people walking in the park, and I have one of a dog that I drew a few days ago..."
He looked down at Peem's hand on his arm and reached up to cover his it with his own for a moment, squeezing the other man's fingers gently. "You forget...I've been sleeping on the ground." He smiled, his tone light, and the best way he could think to express what the offer meant that wouldn't send tears springing to his eyes.

Davey perked up, listening to Chance. He knew how to be a good host too. "Oh oh...why don't you have my bed tonight! I mean, that would be fair. If you have been sleeping on ground, you can have my bed. I like the couch--I can read by the fire! I don't have school tomorrow. Can I?"
Peem looked to his mother, who nodded. "Sure, why not. As long as you two young men don't stay up talking and keep us all awake." She smiled gently.
