The corner on the outside of the lodging house. Come and have a seat.

Unable to get her mother or aunt to do it, Booster called upon a girl she was friends with to braid her hair this morning, after selling the morning edition. Booster took a seat on the steps at the corner, laughing as the girl sat behind her and had Booster hold the tiestrings for after she was done braiding. "Thank you for doing this, Maude..."

*NEW DAY*
Scar leaned against the corner of the outside of the Brooklyn lodging house, sticking to the shadows a bit to hide his face but not enough to seem like a shady character. He lit a cigarette and gave a little sigh. He was taking a risk in coming here, but he wanted to see her up close. He figured it would be best to try to do so from the shadows so he wouldn't alarm her. She seemed to have a quite a few friends here and he wasn't looking for trouble...just yet at least.

Coming home from a long day of selling, Gwennie was definitely looking forward to resting for awhile before dinner. But as she approached the boarding house, she spotted a strange man leaning in the shadows by the door. Brightening up with a second wind at the prospect of meeting a new person, Gwennie skipped over to the man. "Whatcha doin' mistah?" she asked in a upbeat voice, smiling brightly at the man.

Scar looked down at Gwennie and took a drag from his cigarette before answering her. Kids were really not his forte and he rarely interacted with them. "Just taking a break is all." He didn't want her to go running inside saying some strange man was outside, but he also didn't want to deal with a conversation with her.

Gwennie nodded knowingly and fidgeted around for a moment before asking "Whatcha takin' a break from?" He didn't seem too eager to talk to her bet she wasn't going to give up on her prospective new friend that fast. She was nothing if not a people person and she was confident that she could win him over. 'After all, who doesn't like making friends' she thought cheerfully.

He raised an eyebrow at Gwennie and shrugged, "People..." He hoped she'd get the hint and leave him be but part of him had the feeling that she wasn't the type to take a hint. He had been mulling over a plan for quite some time and was still working out the details but it required quite a bit of planning. Which was another reason he was here, he was trying to see what routes she took.

"Well dat's silly" replied Gwennie, childishly oblivious to his obvious desire for her to leave. "how couldja take a break from people when ya are a person?" she pondered, looking genuinely intrigued by the concept. " an' besides, why wouldja wanna get away from people? Dere real neat!" she smiled, looking up at the man expectantly.

He sighed and rubbed the side of his face with his hand in an exasperated motion, this is why he didn't like kids. "Well I'm taking a break from other people besides myself because they don't interest me like they may interest you." To be quite frank, he was getting annoyed by Gwennie at a quick rate. He took a drag of his cigarette, it wouldn't help him to scare the girl into running inside for help.

"Oh" replied Gwennie, initially giving a knowing nod but pausing about halfway through she paused, a confused look creeping onto her face "How come?" she asked his, unsure as to why anyone would dislike being around people "are dey mean ta ya?" she asked, disregarding the annoyed look that he was giving her.

Scar sighed deeply, highly annoyed with all the questions she was asking. "Nah, they don't like me." He shrugged, "And I don't mind. I like being alone, it's nice and quiet. Let's me think." He honestly didn't know what else to say to Gwennie to get her off his back, he didn't want to send her running to tell someone. He didn't want to attract any attention until he'd figured out exactly how he was going to handle his little problem.

Gwennie looked at him with a mixture of confusion and sympathy on her face. " But don't it evah make ya sad dat nobody likes ya?" she asked, staring at him in the unabashed way that only children can. "don'cha get lonely at all?". She couldn't concieve of someone simply being alright with that kind of solitude. "If I was you, I'd go nuts! I don' know what I'd do wit'out all my friends. Don'cha even have a puppy or a kitty or somethin'?"

Scar held back a grimace but his lip curled a bit at the thought of owning a cat. He'd had a dog once, before his father had snapped it's neck in a drunken rage. He shook his head at the kid, "I don't get lonely because I like being alone and being left alone." God when would the kid get the idea to back off and go away. He hated little kids especially ones that didn't seem bright enough to realize they weren't wanted. "I don't want people to like me."

"Well dat's dumb!" retorted Gwennie in a disbelieving voice. "Evr'body wants people ta like 'em. If ya don' got nobody who likes ya den nobody'll help ya if ya need help an den ya'll die." she reasoned off-handedly, fiddling with one of the sleeves of her dress. "Ya don' wanna die do ya?" she asked deliberately, as if speaking with someone who wasn't very bright. She was beginning to lose her patience with the man but she wasn't quite ready to abandon her efforts to befriend him quite yet.

He shrugged, "Everybody dies and I don't need anyone's help, lass. You best be on your way now." He was sorely close to losing his temper and freaking out. It was one thing he didn't want to do in front of the Brooklyn Lodging House. Especially with one of their child newsies.
