Relief flooded her when he changed the subject, she was incredibly content with not talking about herself and talking about him instead. She was incredibly intrigued by his personality and loved hearing about him, besides in her opinion she felt he'd heard enough about her the last time they'd been together. She nodded when he started talking about helping kids out with buying papers, "That's very nice of you, Avalanche." She ducked her head a bit and smiled up at him from beneath her eyelashes. "Not many people would go out of there way to do such a thing."
The more she learned about him the more intrigued and awed she became of him. She absolutely loved his friendly personality and the fact that he would do anything for his friends and the people he cared about. Then again she felt that he would do the same thing for people he barely knew. Maybe that's what had drawn her to him in the first place, it was something she couldn't quite put her finger on but being in his presence put her at ease. She shook her head when he asked about the problems between leaders. "I honestly don't have time to keep up with it." She gave a slight shrug, not really knowing what else to say about it and followed his lead to begin making a sandwich. She shooed his hands away, "I've got it."
With a smile she began putting together the works of what she hoped would be a great sandwich. "You know I'm starting to feel as though I'm losing my place in my family." She said it lightly with a laugh, so he wouldn't think it was something that weighed to much on her mind. "Reid can take care of himself and has been helping us since we were on our own. Perry though, he's always relied on me to take care of him. Although it may have been a lot at times it was always reassuring. Now though he's growing up and he wants to go off on his own. I can't very well say no." She laughed and pushed her hair back, looking at him. "Right? I mean I would if I could but he's obviously not going to like it." Obviously her brother had gotten his tendency to ramble from her.

((Hey sorry for the elongated absence. I'm here now!!))
"Not many people in New York are as lucky as me either," he said in response to her statement, but he smiled just the same. The sad fact was that even with his current position there were people, children, a lot of people in New York, who didn't even have a place to call home.
Avalanche listen to her talk about her family, and how she felt like she was out of place. "Well that happens. People change." He shook his head slightly, "it's the way the world works. With the older one... Reid, right? He's bound to go off and find people to be with, places to be, things to do, stuff like that. Happens to boys at that age. As for Perry... that's what you said his name was right, the younger one? Anyway, if he's gettin' in with the newsies, the good news is, he's safe. The bad news is, he'll grow up fast. And he'll want to be with them, and act like them. I'd just remind him that... if you all have your own place, to have him come home every night, don't let him stay too much in the lodgin' houses. For one other kids might need the bed, and two, it'll keep you all connected, stayin' in the same house together."

Lexi nodded in agreement with his first comment, not many people were as lucky as he was. She herself was struggling to make ends meat but then again she was pretty much supporting her brothers and it was putting a drain on her mentally, physically, and financially. Although she would never complain because at least she had her family, many newsies couldn't claim the same thing. She may have lost her parents but without her brothers she probably would've lost herself back in Jersey City. As she finished making the sandwiches she walked around bringing them with her and handed one to Avalanche.
"Unfortunately we don't have our own place, so I don't get to see them that often. In Jersey City we were in the same house but now we aren't. I can't complain though it's a roof over my head and its not really that far of a walk to get to where they are. I just worry, considering he likes to go on adventures throughout the city. Somehow he found his way to Brooklyn, but thank god I found him and not in the same state I was in when I found out where he'd gone." She'd been more than a little pissed off, regardless of how young he was he knew better than that. She didn't like him wondering around in Jersey City and that's where they grew up. Plus that hadn't been nearly as dangerous as New York and Brooklyn especially. "I know he'll be okay though, I don't worry that much. Just can't stop thinking about the fact that he's going to grow up so fast."

"And frankly, who could blame you?" he asked with a slight shrug. "Well... maybe you should look into a place where you all could live together. It would mean that Perry might have to get a full job, and possibly yourself, but there are some cheap apartments in the Bronx that you could get a room in, i'm sure," he said with a smile and a nod. "But... the kid has gotta be a kid. All kids gotta be kids. I know this is sounding dumb and repetitive. But he's gonna wanna run around, and be with his friends, and go on adventures, especially the ones that are dangerous, because they'll be the most fun. It depends on who he runs around with. If he's got a few good friends, I'm sure he'll be fine. But if he falls in with the wrong crowed it could end badly.
"Now," Avalanche continued, "As for Brooklyn? There are worse places a little kid can wind up. My suggestion? Maybe send the kid to me... if he wants to come here. I'll keep an eye on him, and just sorta... shadow him around the city without gettin' in the way. If he dont' like that idea, there are lotsa other newsies around here... if they knew the kid had people to report to, namely yaself, they wouldn't soak him, and instead send him home to take up the problem with you. I can just about guarantee it. There are some real smart girls in Brooklyn whom you'd probably get along with just fine."

Lexi kept quiet and listened to Avalanche talk. Honestly if she could afford it she would be in her own appartment now, but she just simply couldn't and keep them all fed and clothed. "You're probably right, but if I didn't worry as much as I do I just wouldn't be me." She gave a slight smile and tucked her hair back from her face before taking another bite of her sandwich.
"I'm sure I'm getting myself worked up over nothing, I just can't imagine losing him so I suppose I try to baby him more than I should. He has to grow up at some point or another." Of course in her mind he didn't have to grow up for a very long time. She'd be happy if he stayed the little innocent boy he is forever.

Avalanche chuckled at her comment. "Well... the last thing I'd wanna do is change you," he said as he took a bite out of his own sandwich, and listened to her continue.
"Wull..." he swollowed the bite he had taken, "all kids gotta grow up sometime or another. But the newsies grow up too fast if ya ask me. He ain't gonna be a boy forevah, no matter how much you wish he could. Believe me, I been there myself. But I bet he's a good kid, and can tell right from wrong in most cases," he smiled at her, trying to be encouraging.
